New Concept Car at Fairmount Park Base Camp?

As previousily reported, Transformers is at The Dairy Fields in Fairmount Park. However, instead of shooting there they are using it as base camp for the University of Pennsylvania shoot.

Braden sent the below pictures after deciding to check things out and discovered that there are actually two bases for the shoot. The actor trailers and camera equipment is located off North 33rd street which is a short walk to the UPENN campus while the vehicles are being stored near Walt Whitman Bridge.

While checking out the area Braden reports he saw a helicopter that looked similar to Chinese helicopter with front mounted camera used at the Bethlehem shoot the previous week. Shia Labeouf was spotted near the trailers but no other cast members.

In addition, he stumbled across Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Ironhide, a front damaged 2009 Saturn Vue Hybrid and a new gray concept car being loaded for transport to the Walt Whitman site. The Hybrid could be for a particular scene or even a damaged TF but that is just speculation. I believe the concept car is a 2009 Chevy Corvette XR1 that is the alt mode for the Transformer Stinger. I wonder what could be happening that requires so many Transformers to converge on Sam's location?

Thanks to Braden for his report and pictures.

Update: Reading through the comments it seems the prevailing wisdom is the car either is or isn't a corvette and not the ZR1. I am not sure I agree (obviousily) but I do like the idea of it being a C7. The front end doesn't match the Fireblade at all. Note that Cheverlot is providing most of the cars used in the production again so the odds are high that the car is a Chevy car of some kind and its shape is clearly a sports car. My vote remains with te ZR1.

  1. Sorry, but that isn't a ZR1 Vette. It's a concept, and from which company?

    ReplyDelete
  2. looks like the concept NSX to me

    ReplyDelete
  3. I wonder if Stinger is a movie version of Autobot Tracks? I can't wait to see the robot designs!

    ReplyDelete
  4. That Saturn Vue hybrid has almost the same exact body as a Toyota RAV4 SUV. Hmmmm. . .wonder if that is either Skids or Trailbreaker? Seems like we may be getting more Autobots than we thought. If so, COOL!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. That looks like a Saturn Skye to me.

Based on the same chassis as the Pontiac Solstice, so it may even be that.

But it looks more like a Skye.

Maybe Jazz is the character that returns dramatically to settle a score?

  6. Seeing pictures of movie sets always remind me how awesome it would be to film a movie, or even be a PA. If they ever made a TF3, shoot, I'd be at the audition :P

    ReplyDelete
  7. That concept isn't an NSX, NSX' are mid-engine. It's Chevy, and it's a Vette. Google it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Since the big talk is this mysterious car i shot, i will be going back again tonight to get some new info for you guys.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Dan orris

It's not a Vette, google it. The ZR1 has nothing in common with that car.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Before i got the shot, the doors were up like a lamborghini would have. I dont know if any of that helps to know what kind of car it is

    ReplyDelete
  11. you googled the wrong vette, try this one, Corvette Fireblade and look under images...I think there we will find our answer

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thats the saab concept everyone look at the photo that was posted on here before. The mirrors and body fit that sliver concept car right there. So if im guess would be its wheeljack.Im not 100% on the character but the car im 100% sure.

    Travis

    ReplyDelete
  13. I firmly believe it's not the fireblade concept either. The front quarter panel doesn't match at all. And it's definately not the saab, it's not even close. This is something we have never seen before.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Vette??? are we looking at the same pic? I say looks more like Saleen S5S Raptor, but not xtactly.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Great picts.. maybe next time get a camera w/ image stabilization and high ISO setting?

    ReplyDelete
  16. How about next time i take no pictures and you can wait till the movie opens to see whats going to be in it.

I turned the flash off so no one would hassle me about taking pics and with no flash the camera was gonna give me blurry shots

So i apologize for not having an expensive digital for you to enjoy

  17. Hey is the silver car a Buick Riveria Concept?

    http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080111.001/buick-riviera-makes-north-american-debut-in-detroit

as far as the image comment goes most point and shoot digital camera have a high ISO setting.. you increase the shutter speed so u dont get the squiggle lines, you'll get more noise in the image, but at least the image will be clear(er) than if u used non flash. just a suggestion.

    ReplyDelete
  18. sorry i looked at all possibilities, the fireblade is the closest...the front fender even has the same lip on it, plus crew have said that there is a vette...

    ReplyDelete
  19. IVE GOT IT!!!!!! It's not the ZR1, it's not the fireblade. Yes it's a Vette but we haven't seen it in yet. GOOGLE CORVETTE C7! It's the new body style for the up and coming 2009 or 2010 corvette. GM is following exactly what they did with the camaro in the first movie! If you find a good rendering of the car you will see it's now just that obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  20. just did a little more home work. it's looking like the 2010 mid engine mounted C7. I think the next generation Vette is what we see here.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Don't worry, Braden, I'm paying attention to what you're saying. ^_^ That actually sounds like the Saab Aero concept, I *believe* it has the same "Lambo" doors or it could be modified.

Another guess I playfully thought up is Sam and his buddies are all part of a car enthusiast group, and Bumblebee is just "playing along with the humes". So expect to see radical cars but only one if them is a Transformer. hehe

    Hey, who knows!

    ReplyDelete
  22. the only problem is all of the concept work for the C7 is all speculation. I am a member of the biggest Corvette forum in the US, and there is nothing out there from GM yet. All of that stuff out on the web is people coming up with their own designs... it is NOT a C7.

    ReplyDelete
  23. additionally, the C7 will not premier until 2011... i'm pretty sure the corvette community knows more about the C7 than anyone else...

    ReplyDelete
  24. it's a next gen vette.
I'm pretty sure a concept artist for GM knows more about the C7 than the corvette forum community...
    :/

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow, thanks for the pictures! Blurry, but I definitely understand why they are. I would have done the same thing.

The new vehicles are interesting, but man, oh man, Bumblebee's looking beautiful, as usual. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm joining the "S5S" boat. That's not a Corvette; too low, too long. It's not the C7, either, because the C7 is staying front-engine/RWD. I'm going to guess either S7 or S5S.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Actually, I just thought of something: Could it be the Cien Concept? We know Bay is a GM guy, and he used it in The Island. I know for sure it's a mid-engined car, and not a Corvette.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm going to say it's not the S5S either. Stance is different, mirrors are pitched the wrong way, and the rear flare and quarter pannel lines are off. Too curvy to be an S7, unless they redesigned it in secret. BTW the silver car in the picture is a front-engine based car, I don't know why the popular view is the car pictured is a mid-engined car. I think we are ruling out cars faster than finding one... It is always possible that it's a concept car that has rarely been seen and isn't even on our radar. In that case, we're just pissing in the wind...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Reply to n8: The Cadillac Cien concept is beautiful and I wouldn't be surprised if it was used. My guess though is that Michael Bay probably wouldn't reuse it since it was debuted in The Island, but I wouldn't put it past him to use it anyway for GM to garner more spotlight on that particular name brand.

The wild guess that a remodeled Saab Aero (Lancia derived) as Wheeljack would be an excellent idea to see. I can't wait for more pics from Braden; that definitely takes risky sleuthing. :) Kudos to him! :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Considering it's silver and looks to have a lot of straight edges on it, I think the car is a Cadillac Cien.

    http://www.getchevatgan.com/images/fun/cadillac/2002-Cadillac-Cien-Concept-1024.jpg

It could work, considering Cadillac is a GM brand. I thought it was a Saturn Sky too but the edges are too straight compaired to the roundness of a sky's windows

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's definitely some sort of Vette. No doubt in my mind.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I say Cadillac Cien.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think the windows and hood are a little too low for a Corvette, even the zr1.

One thing's for sure, there's a Camaro inside the hauler, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have to comment on this....you've got the first picture of the final production Camaro! Yes, prototypes have been driving around undisguised, but the bumper and grille have been plastic testing replicas...here, you have the real thing.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That's not the Raptor, definitely not the Raptor. How come everyone is over looking the CHEVY SYMBOL ON THE FRONT?! It's a Chevy Corvette ZR1. Google it! The front/rear panels are the same, side skirts are the same, hood, even the rims! It's the Corvette ZR1. Click for ZR1 picture or http://image.automobilemag.com/f/multimedia/photo_gallery/8108878/0712_11z_1024x768+2009_chevrolet_corvette_ZR1+front_three_quarter_view.jpg

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm pretty sure it's a Chevy Volt. Check out this picture on Wikipedia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Chevrolet-Volt-DC.jpg
Then compare the mirrors, rims, as well as the steep rake of the windshield. Also, the colour is identical, but that's minor.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You might be onto something with the Volt.

I was going to say the car is not a 4 door, but it really could be since the pic quality could just be making it appear to be 2 door.

If you look at that pic with the Volt that you posted, and mentally erase the door line between the front and back doors and make it mentally a two door, that could really be the car.

Also, envisioning looking at the hood from a higher angle on the Volt would make it look like a "vette"ish front end.

It's waaaaay too chopped to be an actual Vette.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Let's just call it a Lamborghini and call it a day. haha

    ReplyDelete
  39. I say that it is the SSC Aero ...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSC_Aero

    Look at the overall lines...

    ReplyDelete
  40. In all seriousness though, judging from the rear stance, it doesn't match the 2012/13 C7 Corvette. The back of the C7 goes all the way and the picture shown here doesn't match.

I totally disagree with it being a ZR1, totally different shape. The ZR1 is much curvier and smoother, this one has more "cheekbones", more definition, more scowl.

Looking closer, it doesn't match a Cadillac Cien either. The Cien is sharper and pointy and this one isn't. I know the Cien because I have the 1:18 scale diecast model (OBSESSED! haha). :)

I also disagree with the NSX concept. Again, look at the rear stance, the lines end at the rear of the door, the NSX goes all the way to the front wheel and never separate.

And finally, as much as I would LOVE it to be, it doesn't match the Saab Aero Concept. The Saab roofline does not end. This one ends just before the rear wheels. Also conflicts with report from Braden. He reported the doors were scissor doors and the Aero concept is not at all (integrated hood+gullwing-door).

  41. I track GMs movements every day. It's a pic of the new zr1 corvete previously named blue devil. If anything gives it away, its the checkered flags on the front. any1 who knows anything about vettes knows that. Wheels are the same on thats on the new zr1. It also has the raised transparent hood to showcase the supercharger

    ReplyDelete
  42. It looks like a Chevy Volt to me.

    ReplyDelete
  43. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/GeneralFuture/articleId=125496

go there and tell me if it looks identical. i would say yes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yep it is a volt. I would put money on it.

    Check it out: here.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm not so sure about the volt... That thing is quite low to the ground and the volt is a big box. maybe we should look at the possibility that its designed solely for the movie and it doesn't exist anywhere else in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  46. another thing to consider... all the autobots from the last movie were by GM, If this had scissor doors then it might be designed in house. No specific brand or model.

    ReplyDelete
  47. IT IS A CORVETTE ZR1. LOOKS NOTHING LIKE A SATURN SKYE, NISSAN NSX, CHEVY VOLT ETC ETC. DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE UTTERING IGNORANCE.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with enthusia492. I spent a little bit of time pouring over the rear fender space and it doesn't match anything that I've seen from most GM concepts or other vehicles (Saleen, Saab, Acura, etc). The low canopy, clear sharp angles, and large footprint is certainly something new. I want to hear what Braden reports. It is POSSIBLE it is something we have not seen yet, which really adds to the whole mystery and excitement. And I love mystery and excitement. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Still disagree with Corvette ZR1. The ZR1 has protruding air intakes on the sidewall just in front of the rear wheels and also in front of the door. The car in the picture does not. The ZR1 rear fender doesn't go up as high as the one in the picture. The ZR1 roofline and canopy are relatively high and the car in the picture is very low, almost similar (but not quite) to the Camaro itself. Educated guess? Possibly a new Pontiac GTO?

URL provided below for the 1999 Pontiac GTO concept (could be a bit different for 2010 model): http://www.diseno-art.com/encyclopedia/concept_cars/pontiac_gto.html

    ReplyDelete
  50. The rear fender almost levels the roof line. Pay attention to this before spitting out bad speculation.

    ReplyDelete
  51. How the hell do you people claim to "see" chevy symbols and checkered flags??? You can't see shit in those pictures! That is not a ZR1 by the way, and doesn't even look like a Vette. It looks closer to a Viper than a Vette. Definitely a 2 door though...

    ReplyDelete
  52. are we all talking about the clear and professional picture of the vette, or the blurry picture of the silver car parked behind a trailer?

    ReplyDelete
  53. The slightly burry picture of the silver car being hauled into the trailer. That's the one up for debate. :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well one thing for sure...its not the ZR-1 Corvette...and it definitely looks like the silohuette of a Vette, and the mirrors look very GM concept car. So I'm thinking concept Vette. Or possibly a souped version of the Vette, just like Jazz was a "jazzed" up version of a Solstice.

But mostly likely some kind of GM Vette concept I think.

So is Jazz back? What's this about a white Solstice Coupe in the movie? Confirmed?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I take back my previous labels. My feeling is that it is actually some sort of Vette concept. Definitely not a Vette that the public has seen or peeked at before.

The front end has the Vette/Viper look... and I really don't see it being a Viper. The latest Vipers have left that look behind already, with the gilled sides making it look batmobilish.

The enormous rear wheels and wide stance, and the shape of the rear fender scream a new more aggressively styled Vette. The front end also screams Vette.

The main thing throwing me off is how chopped down the cockpit is, but that is reminiscent of the latest GM stuff (Camaro, Volt) which they could easily now be integrating to the Vette to have the recognizable GM next gen lineup.

    ReplyDelete
  56. DAMN! We're talking about the silver car coming out of the truck aren't we? Oops. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hahaha... it's Jazz! He gets a new alt mode and he's back! *hopeful*

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm going to jump on the Corvette bandwagon for a bit here and put these out on the table:
    2010 Corvette Mako Shark concept
    2010 Corvette Stingray concept
    2010 Corvette Manta Ray concept

Keep in mind, this is all just pure FUN speculation and MAYBE updated for 2010 or never to be released (Example: GM Hummer H2 for Ratchet was completely original)

I'm eliminating these based on designs that just don't match the future vision:
    Corvette Callaway
    Corvette Indy

    Thoughts? :)

    ReplyDelete
  65. All of you can sit here and say its this car, or its that car, when honestly, every car that has been said on this board I have looked at and although this vehicle has something in common with every single one, it is not 100% of one car.

Honestly, i believe what some have said in the fact that it's something new that hasn't been shown to the public, and the only way to truly know, is if better pictures show up of that car.

    ReplyDelete
  66. 1st, thanks for the photos! I have to agree with keiser. The car is most likely a concept. IMO, the car is being used to gauge public reaction to either a future stingray or a new trans am. Also, not to piss anyone off, but some of you need better glasses. Even with a blurry picture, its obvious the car doesn't look like anything that has been mentioned including the SSC, Saab, Volt, C7 sketches/artist renderings, current ZR1, Caddy Cein, pont solc, recent nsx, viper, mako, calloway, saleen s5s nor S7. And for good measures it doesn't look like any current buick concept. Please, like someone else said earlier, pay attention to the details there are no side vents on this car (zr1, s5s, s7). Oh yeah, I almost forgot, its not a ferr. 430, gallardo, pagani, ccx, tvr, areo, ultima, r8, carrera gt, or anything else that is currently built, within a year of being built, or has been shown to the public. P.S. there is no way of knowing from the photos if the car is rear or front wheel drive.

    ReplyDelete
  67. In response to the above: Actually from the relatively clear photo I'm 95% sure it's RWD. Look how long it is from the tire to where the A-pillar meets the hood line, that's a lot of gap, usually indicative of a north/south mounted engine. Aside from the original Olds Toronado and the 1st gen Chrysler LH cars, (and the Cord 810/812, I think), that usually means a RWD drivetrain. I'm actually coming around to think it's some sort of Corvette, possibly, just from the fenders.

As for an alternate, I'm going to say an XLR concept. It could be an evolution of the Art & Science theme.

    ReplyDelete
  68. it is the new concept corvette. i have worked on it. you can all lay any other theories of what it is to rest now.

    ReplyDelete
  69. The corvette has gull wing doors and a split window fast back like the 1963. It was built by a company from Michigan called DST who also built bumble bee car and most Hummers in the movie. From a front view, there is no question it's a vette with retro styling. But if you still have doubts, the emblem on the rims are a dead give away.
I also worked on this car and have great close ups in my personal collection.

    ReplyDelete
  70. It most closely resembles the Chevy Volt concept, but could also be a new Corvette or Caddy concept car. It's DEFINITELY GM though.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Does anyone know exactly where near the Walt Whitman Bridge or Fairmount Park they're at and if it's hard to get a sneak peek? I'm from the Philly area and would like to check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  72. It IS a vette... I have been on set, seen it up close, and it IS a vette... The pics (no offense) don't show any definite shape to it, but trust me...it's the Vette. Done. Get over it...

    ReplyDelete
  77. it would be nice for someone to get a cleaner pic... or if the guy that works for the company that built it could post one of the pics from his gallery of it. i need some proof of that... until then, i'm raising the flag.

    ReplyDelete
  78. There's no way that's the Vault. If I had my choice, I'd choose between the Vette and the NSX, those are my two choices as to what this car is. To be honest, the top looks like it's been chopped, because the concept Vette has a little taller roof, from the pics I've seen. Then again, the body looks a little too smooth and fluid to be the concept NSX...so, I don't know...

    ReplyDelete
  79. GEE, well lets see now, 24's in the Rear, 22's in the Front. It's obvious a CONCEPT CAR based off of the 2010-2012 Corvette. Concept cars are built to show what direction a car company is going for.

    I vote AUTOBOT STINGER!!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Everyone is talking about how they see checkered flags and the chevy emblem....I might be missing something, but how the mess are you supposed to find those things in this blurry pic? (No offense to the photographer, and many kudos for snagging the pic )

  82. Perhaps the car is a DeLorean?
When I lived in the Port Richmond

  83. Are we still going on about this elusive silver car? haha

Dude, it's my mom's Volvo station wagon. I know, it is awesome at certain angles. :) :) :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. The silver car looks like a chevy volt concept. the camaro could be a SS version of the camaro

    ReplyDelete
  85. Saab Aero Concept? No - air intake is completely different.

Cadillac Cien? - that concept is dead and gone (2002). GM isn't about to put something out of the warehouse for a blockbuster movie.

Chevy Volt? - the car in these pics sits way too close to the ground to be the Volt. Volt = nice looking car, but similar to the Camry in terms of size.

I've said it before and I'll say it again......this concept is the next gen C7 Corvette - NOT THE ZR1 that is coming out in 2009.....but a brand new concept. Google it all you want, but GM hasn't put anything out there, not even spy photos.

I've been a car afecionado my entire life, and a auto engineer for 15 years - and I know a 'Vette when I see it, and I can spot a freaking concept from a mile away. Compare this to the current model (C6, ZR1, Z-06 = all the same body style folks)....the similar silouette, the familiar lines and styling queues. The low roof line, the exaggerated fenders, the short trunk lid, the slim, open mouthed air intake that runs the width of the car under the front bumper, and the 5 spoke wheels. These are all traits from the C5 and C6 'Vette that have been carried over into the next generation 'Vette.

I promise you after the round of auto shows in early 2009, Chevy will want it highlighted in TF2 - guaranteed! Despite the fact that the C7 'Vette will be a 2012 model, GM will have a concept out soon (Detroit Auto Show is in January 2009). Granted, 2012 seems like a long time from now; however, let's all remember that Bumblebee is technically a 2009 model Camaro. Chevy debuted the new Camaro as a concept at Detroit's Auto Show in January 2006. Come January 2009, history will repeat itself and Chevy will debut the new Vette as a concept at the Detroit Auto Show - just as they did with the Camaro.

Just a theory....but logically, it has greater merit than comparing it to a bunch of photos you guys are looking up on Google.

    ReplyDelete
  86. It's Jazz based on the TF Animated new Ford GT. Roof height matches, wheel sizes match, and the rounded lines do too.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I hope it's not Jazz. I thought he was cool in the first movie, and I hope he comes back...but not as a Vette. This needs to be someone totally different.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Sorry to burst bubbles but that is the zr1!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Look at the pic at the top of this page, that's the ZR1. The car that was photographed doesn't match the lines. That's very obviously NOT the ZR1

    ReplyDelete
  90. from working at a dealership of GM...the front fenders and rear 1/4 panel are to straight edge'd and cut much like a Camaro concept. It's short and low roof lining are much like the saab concept yet the body seems longer much like a vette. The Saab concept has rounded fenders and the camaro is taller and the vette has the sleeker styling. The rims look to be more of a five-point star like the Vette C5 rims as well...all in all, it's too hard to say without more crisp pictures, but it's more of a camaro (cliffjumper?) or a vette (tracks/stinger) then anything else....

    ReplyDelete
  91. it's wheeljack! notice the wing mirrors and arches? :D

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm willing to bet the Corvette is going to be Jazz.

  93. fred, member of CGI specialist team in TF2making has just made me sure that IT IS JASS.
he's just send me the CGI of the changing of that car.

    ReplyDelete
  94. To me, it follows the lines of the Camaro concept, granted its not a new camaro nor is it a vette. Now what it could be is a concept of a possible new Pontiac Firebird, Trans Am, Firehawk. For GM just producing the Camaro as a production car will make GM lots of money. But if they can multi-platform the car they will be a lot more profitable. The car really appears to profile the look of a Trans Am with its high fenders but retains the look/length and boxiness of the Camaro concept. My vote is a Trams Am Concept.

  97. just to teach some people up here about corvettes, just because its not a zr1 doesn't mean its not a corvette. clearly its a corvette, and any corvette fan would know that by seeing the corvette flag emblems on the front of the car. yes it is a beautiful car, but I only wish they would have shown it more in the movie then they did. the movie is awesome by the way.

  98. Choosing a car is bit difficult , since in the market wide range of cars are available. You need to consult an expert who can compare different branded cars. I prefer Eu Neuwagen to consult and get the right brand.
