Bonaventura Talks More Transformers

IESB spoke with Transformers 2 producer at the Eagle Eye premiere about The video of the interview is here. Thanks to Robert for the link.

Highlights:
- "... probably three times as many Transformers in this. Both more Decepticons, more Autobots."
- "No, I wouldn't promise that [in regards to "more Cybertron"]. But I will promise that you are going to see a lot of things the fans wanted to see in the first movie we couldn't do. We are able to do now. You are going to see those fans favorites. We all try to hide what it is, you guys found out. Don't ask me who they are. It is you pick three or four characters you wanted to see...you really like...they are in this. ...Bunch of great ones."
- "We are taking [this movie] international. Bigger movie. Bigger arena."
- About trailer: "I hope this holiday season. ...the problem is always the same problem the visual effects are never quite ready in time. I know Paramount and Dreamworks wants to put em out for the holidays, its just whether we can get the visual effects done on time."

-- Hmm three or four? That would seem to rule out Constructicons. Unless they counted Devastator as one character.

As far as i can tell, the three or four would refer to Soundwave, Jetfire and the couple autobot cars (whoever the twins and the silver car may turn out to be)

Umm...no. What he means is that if you pick your 3 favorite characters, chances are they're in the movie. For all we know right now, you could pick your 15 favorites and they'd all be in the flick.

    Anyway, Prowl. Wheeljack. Blitzwing. YAY!!!

  7. Actually, there were 13 transformers in the first movie - five Autobots and eight Decepticons - which means 39 transformers in the sequel if Bonaventura's math is right. And, in my opinion, that number is way too high. I think we'll end up with about 10 per side, like Orci indicated in an early interview. Any higher than that, and none of the TFs will get enough screen time to develop their character. That, and there'd be no TFs left to introduce in the third film.

    All hail Megatron!

  8. As long as they have some great and improved character stuff with some principal transformers, I have no problem with many many many background bots filling the screen.

Think of how cool Star Wars and Lord of The Rings are. And they have tons of characters that have no character development whatsoever but fill in the corners of the screen -- cameo roles, etc... Think of all the orcs, trolls, monsters in LOTR. And in Empire, those bounty hunters only appeared in one shot.

Since the humans are still the focus of this franchise, I say the more bots the merrier! Flood the screen and have them blow each other up! They'll always be more for later films...

  9. fan favourite? i still say it's hard to see my grimmy in this one... but good news nevertheless. bring it!!! :D

  10. I would love to see Grimlock in this film! Who wouldn't?

What I think is insanely stupid is they say they can't justify robots disguising themselves as robotic dinosaurs. Well, then why the hell did Scorponock disguise himself as a giant scorpion???!!! Even if he wanted to pretend he's a scorpion, why so big? Silly. Unexplained...

Follow you own rules, filmmakers. They have made a dinobot as plausible as a frigging scorpionbot.

    Am I right?

  11. As regards to the comment bout 3 times as many Transformers, i doubt he meant around 39 main characters.

More like 15-20 main ones.. and the rest perhaps as background cameos roles, such as for cybertronian scenes for example.

  12. what does lorenzo know about fan favorites?? skorpy knows shit. don't get your hopes up about your top three transformers. he probably thinks arcee was a fan favorite, any of the pretenders, and wheelie. he probably doesn't even know the difference between wheeljack and hotrod.

  13. Good point regarding cameos and Cybertron flashbacks, iceburn.

The movie probably will end up with around 20 main bots between both sides. We know the four surviving Autobots from the 1st film are in. We've also seen the silver Corvette (which I'm thinking will be either Blurr, Hot Rod or Tracks), the Beat and the Trax (no guess as to who they'll be), and the mysterious ice cream truck. Add to them the rumors of Arcee, Wheeljack as a Saab Aero-X and Jetfire, and you've got around 10 Autobots.

For the Decepticons, we know three survived the 1st film. I think we'll see Soundwave and at least one of the casettes. We've already seen the Audi R8, which I'm thinking will be given the name of one of the Stunticons. We've all read the Devastator rumors by now, but I'm thinking we'll only see a few Constructicons (Long Haul, Mixmaster and Scrapper are my guesses). I also have a feeling that Starscream will be joined by one of his fellow seekers - Thundercracker maybe? - and that "the fallen" refers to a revived Megatron. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

  14. I have this crazy idea... maybe an after effect of having the allspark in his chest, Megatron now has flames shooting out of his insides... so he looks just like The Fallen!

lol, just pardon my fanboyism there~

  15. While I don't believe 100percent 39 robots in the movie, I also think that it will be great because this indicates that an epic war is coming.

  16. how i wish VICTOR PRIME would appair in the sequel..it would be great..wachu think?!

    ReplyDelete
  17. if they include the history of cybertron in this movie,i think it would be cool if they also include the history of the autobots named "primus and the last autobot" in that part.and also the history of the original 13 transformers.wachu people think?!do u think it would be cool?i hope there'll be no one will againts may opinion..

  18. As for three favourite TF characters .. mine would be Devastator, Soundwave and Overlord.

I guess we all pretty much expect Soundwave to be in, and Devastator might be to according to rumors.

As Overlord is not a G1 character .. i know he wont be in it, but since there's a SR-71 Blackbird (which made up one half of Overlord), i'm satisfied.

So, if Devastator rumors are true .. that would make 2.5/3 of my fav characters making it into ROTF. What Bonaventura said is kinda true regarding fav characters in my case. I'm drooling at the thought.

Man, people don't seem to realize that the scorpion was his robot mode, kind of like G1 Ravage and Lazerbeak.

  20. "Man, people don't seem to realize that the scorpion was his robot mode, kind of like G1 Ravage and Lazerbeak."

Then why does an alien look like an Earth scorpion (which are present in the mid-east desert)? And why does the scorp toy transform into a robot mode? And if scorp was robot mode, what is his alt mode? A car? I don't think so. They make rules to say no Grimlock, but Scorp flies in the face of that. Just sayin'...

  21. "Man, people don't seem to realize that the scorpion was his robot mode, kind of like G1 Ravage and Lazerbeak."

Someone said before that Skorpy's alt mode was the engine for Blackout, but #1) Slow-mo the scene at the beginning when he pops out of Blackout and you'll see that he was just curled up in a compartment in Blackout's back and not an engine, and #2) How was Blackout still able to fly and function without an engine?

I think like it was said above, because the toy had a robot mode, I too think it's possible for the scorpion to be his alt-mode.

Oh, and thanks to Robert for the link?? I posted it yesterday 2 articles before this one.

  22. i remember reading from somewhere that hasbro added the robot mode to add value to the toy... just my 2cents, not sure how true it is hehe

(imho it's kinda crappy, i leave him in scorpion mode all the time)

    ReplyDelete
  23. But the big question: Why a scorpion? And then why not a dinobot?

And yes, the robot mode on scorp is pretty lame (but fun to transform).

  24. pretty boring talking bout Scorponok when there's other awesome new characters to talk about..

well the more Auto's the better tho IMHO. Especially if they are fliers & are big sized as the Deceps. Gettin' bored seein them Auto's lookin' small!

  25. You know what I am kind of glad we dont know 80% of the new characters in this next film. We could see all kinds of stuff. Even backgound chars are decent in my book. Sure you will have the main ones, but Heck Could have Shockwave or Thundercracker and skywarp, just in the back ground.

Its just adds depth to the story and the fact they are thier makes it more Eye Candy. They dont even have to talk.

  26. Roberto Orci said of TFW2005 that Scorp's robot mode is the scorpion and the alt mode is the engine.

    Case closed.

  27. this post is for all of my fellow fan boy n girls out there after watching the first film I came to this simple conclusion: Transformers were toys first- that got a catoon later on, so a lot of what takes place in the cartoon for damn sure don't work in real life , but we're are looking at these ROBOTS as if we HUMANS built them and they should work based on HUMAN technology ! Think about it everytime an autobot hits the ground thier windshields would shatter everytime but Bumble Bee's shit did'nt even scatcth till the end of the movie, so lets just sit back and dream until cuz thats all we got.

  28. If we are getting what everyone asked for I think it's safe to say that Prowl is in this movie, and quite possibly is the Stinger... OMG.

  29. Man Transformers 2 is going to be SWEET.

  30. Michael Bay has already promised there will be all sorts of new robot characters in the new Transformers movie, but what you probably didn’t know is that the title is a direct reference to one of them.

The full title of the film is Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Apparently, that does not refer to the Decepticons getting revenge on the Autobots for kicking their ass in the first film. According to TFW “The Fallen” refers to a specific character.

The Transformers universe does already contain a robot named “The Fallen”. He appeared in some of the Transformers comic books, one of the thirteen original Transformers. He’s also not a very nice dude, and in the comics he escapes from his prison puts together an army, forcing the Autobots and the Decepticons to team up in order to fight him. If that’s the route Michael Bay is going, that could mean we’ll see Megatron and Optimus Prime fighting side by side in Transformers 2.

  31. obviously i didnt write that but I thought it was pretty interesting.

  32. @gettodeath: are you promoting the misinformation campaign or what?
Megatron and Optimus joining forces against the Fallen? If Bay did anything like that the movie would flop.
The Fallen refers to Megatron/Decepticons. The character of the Fallen is practically unknown and it never was on G1 anime, so don't expect it.
