Grimlock Fan Art

From Romain Revert is the below fan made design he created for Grimlock. The first image is Grimlock in normal robot mode, the second is battle mode with mast and chest protector (for his spark). The vehicle mode is a GMC Denali XT Concept car.

  1. Wors't Grimlock concept art for the movie, i ever saw... Seriously, if i didn't know it was meant to be Grilmock, i wouldn't guess...

  2. I actually like it. The face looks a lot like the original Grimlock. The only problem I have with it is that it's car instead of a dinosaur. Therefore, he can't be Grimlock. Maybe a relative of Grimlock...

Good thing this is fan art and not actual art for the next movie. Of course they said there would be no dinobots.

  3. yah,i agree..Grimlock is a maximal so,it suppose to be a dino not a car.

  4. ^ to person above me... since when is Grimlock a Maximal?! He was G1.. sure he appeared in Beast Wars but he is Grimlock, leader of the Dinobots in Transformers!

  5. Not very original, borrows alot from the Movie Blackout design.

  6. Actually, if you remove the mask on the right one, he'd make an interesting pre-Beast Wars Waspinator.

  7. lol grimlock a maximal? he's leader of the dinobots for pete's sake (no offence bro) he's my fave~!

actually the concept's not bad, but he's paying too much tribute to grimmy's bot mode look that i doubt he'd look like that in bay's movie-verse. and no t-rex=not cool. lol... neat stuff nevertheless...

    ps: kickass sword

  8. If 'Battle Mode' (on the right) can Transform into a T-REX, and also turn into a SUT to travel with the Autobots (plus hide from poeple). Then awesome.

He should have a drawing with his tail being the sword, etc, etc.

  9. Ehhh, Geewun Fanboys... Megatron wasn't a gun, past last 20 years, but when someone says "hey! lets make grimlock witch car alt mode!" Everybody start shouting "HERESY, HERESY!".

  10. that would be pretty cool

  11. Don' t be mean, dudes. While not expertly executed, this fan art is pretty well done. The shapes are well put together. I like the hint of gold color and other color bits to echo G1 look. At least you know what your looking at -- ie: the color and design elements lead your eye to the face, which is more than I can say for the actual movie. (Movie Ironhide, while cool in many ways looked like a pile of metal junk thrown on an armature.) Most of the movie models and final paint designs were way to busy and did not invite the viewer's eye to easily find the face -- which is basic design 101.

If this fan artist's aesthetic was in the mix on the actual movie it woudln't be a bad thing. Nice work!

And yeah, if Scorponok can look like an earth scorpion, this guy could certainly reconfigure to look like a t-rex to rip some decepticon's head off. Why not? Makes sense to me.

  12. I think the only difference is that Scorponok was a scorpion was so that he move easily thru the sand to kill the soldiers.

  13. What the hell is with all the f&%$ing GMC cars. GMC is junk. Grimlock needs to be a Dinosaur. There is no question. IF he were to be a vehicle, first he can't be GMC because they suck and have no power. Grimlock is power personified. He needs to be Truckasaurus.

  14. And for the poster who said Megatron wasn't a gun for 20 years, why does Grimlock have to be a dinosaur?

    The answer is:

Grimlock is a dinosaur and you don't know jack squat about anything.

  15. "Grimlock is a dinosaur and you don't know jack squat about anything."

I don't know jack squat about anything, because...? Aw heck, you are ofcourse right. And Binaltech/Alternators Grimlock was just my dream.

  16. Me grimlock leader!

  17. heres the deal the art is nice but common. grimlock is one of the mightiest tfs ever and that pic makes him look like a scrawny weekass.!!!grimlock should look mean and ferocious bulked up to the max.he definatly dont look "scary" as he should. it might as well be swoop he was the scrawny one of the bunch!! good try though..

  18. Oh boy, another Anti-G1 guy.

Take that BS back to Don Murphy's board where they fellate him and Michael Bay 24-7.

The torso is way too small on the concept design.

  19. I totally reckon that this piece screams Grimlock homages, but i also agree with the doubters, there is something that isn't quite right about it... can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the all around body shape, too scrawny and not butch enough.

Other than that it's a really awesome piece of art.

  20. Yes, yes, yes, because i don't care what alt mode will Grimlock have in the movie, and i won't cry if it won't be a T-rex, i must have be a anti-G1! Wonderfull logic. Anything else to add...?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ugh. Looks terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  22. two things.

    1. take that 'artwork' back to the drawing board and give him a beter alt. mode some thing that doesn't make him look scrawny.

2 get a better person to work on this stuff.

  23. I don't think this is bad work but it is a little... wimpy looking? And I think the fact that one side was copied and flipped, than pasted to the other to form a complete picture is just too obvious, which is distracting, at least to me.

Good luck to the artist. They are way ahead of many of us, still.

  24. I WISH VICTOR PRIME WILL BE IN THE SEQUEL..AND THEY MUST ALSO INCLUDE A BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT PRIMUS AND UNICORN FOR THE PEOLPE TO KNOW SPECIALLY TO THOSE NOT A TRANSFORMERS FAN ON HOW THE TRANSFORMERS ALL BEGAN.

  25. Aw heck, you are ofcourse right. And Binaltech/Alternators Grimlock was just my dream.

Yes.. for you It was just a dream. And it was my nightmare. The only version of Grimlock that matters is Dinobot Grimlock and to make him a GMC Denali is just downright blasphemy. Actually, to make him anything except a dinosaur is just plain wrong. G1 is the only version that matters.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sigh... Freakin fanboy... Than you propably hate all the movie, cause they don't have G1 alt modes in it, huh? Jeez, what a geek...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, G1 fanboys can be quite annoying can't they? Especially the fact that poor Bay even got death threats from these kinds of people.

    ReplyDelete
  28. As far a Grimlock being a Dino, it depends on which version of G1 you go with. In the cartoons he was built on Earth and given a T-rex form to give the Autobots some brute strength. In Marvel comics he was on the Ark when it left Cybertron and was given the T-rex form when Shockwave came to prehistoric Earth because all that was availible to scan were dinosaurs. (in the comics) before he came to Earth he probably was a tank like he was in the recent War within comics.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "before he came to Earth he probably was a tank like he was in the recent War within comics."

My point exacly. Why couldn't he be a tank? In movie-verse? Nooooo, "he moost be a din0, cause geewun fanboys want so. It doesn't matter, it wont have ANY sense"... What a dino in the city? Go watch Animated, or Godzilla...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why dont you just shut up with your pointless whinings?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sorry mister "i love geewun, movie should be like geewun, nothing else matter", i wont say anything more...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like the design. I think the artist did a good job in paying tribute to the bot mode of G-1 Grimlock.

That said . . . I do not care for the character. I am fine with Grimlock being something other than a t-rex, but he needs to be huge and powerful. A full size pick-up does not cut it. Grimlock is a punisher and needs a destructive alt mode.

  33. grimlock should stay as a t-rex, not a automobile.like frank welker should been megatron voice not that other actor who did his voice(what was his name?)

    ReplyDelete
  34. "actor who did his voice(what was his name?)"

Agent Smith... err, i mean, Hugo Weaving ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Clearly looks like Blackout's body, but with certain things changed such as the head. PATHETIC DESIGN.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Grimlock as a tank, I would be cool with. Also, Grimlock as a construction vehicle would be good, probably, as long as it's not the typical all yellow and they could make it the colors Grimlock has traditionally had.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't mind the robot form for Grimlock, just not the 'car'. The movie designs for the robot forms have actually grown on me, even if a few of their alt modes haven't.
I do agree that they should find a way of having him as a reptile. Perhaps he could scan a lizard?
Heck, it worked for Scorpinok, so an Autobot can certainly use a scan of something organic.

    ReplyDelete
  38. ME GRIMLOCK NO GMC Denali XT ME T-REX!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Grimlock was a cybertronian truck, in the IDW comic series, but then when they went to Earth in pursuit of Shockwave, he and the rest of the "Dynobots" then toke on alternate forms in the dinosaurs so they can get on Earth and engage Shockwave

therefore Grimlock is not limited to being a Moronic Dinosaur, but a Violent Tactician

    ReplyDelete
  40. There is actually this model right now. You can buy it. This fan art is actually really good though. I think that it should also have a dino-bot mode. But think about it, if the only thing grimlock could transform into was a space t-rex then he'd have to be an artillery. Thus making him not able to go for a joyride wiht jazz and pick up so chicks...litterly, he can pick them up.

    ReplyDelete
  41. If Grimlock scanned an organic life form "I.E lizard, amphibion, walrus" then he'd be @$$ small and wouldn't do squat, BUT if he was like scorpinock and was huge then it would be scary to have a 20 ft frog hopping around.
