Transformers 2 Prequel Comic Defiance (Update)

IDW Publishing has revealed the cover (that is as big as it gets) to the first issue of 4 issue mini-series Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Movie Prequel: Defiance #1. The solicitation description:
The second official prequel to next summer’s TRANSFORMERS movie begins here! In “DEFIANCE,” writer Chris Mowry and artist Dan Khanna tell a tale that delves back to the very origins of CYBERTRON and the beginnings of the war between AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS. This first issue introduces new threats and sets up the reasons for the conflict that leads directly into next summer’s sequel to the smash-hit film!
There is also Alliance, the first issue that came out last week that bridges the gap between the two movies. As for the image, not entirely sure who or what Megatron is possibly bowing too (AllSpark shard?) nor if he is looking at something in his hand. Pretty compelling image overall. I believe the first issue hits newsstands sometime in January. Thanks to Gregory for the link.

Update: Below is a much larger image of the Defiance #1 cover from Alex Milne's deviantArt page. If interested you can find other Transformers comic related artist work for Josh Perez (Alliance), Josh Burcham (Maximum Dinobot), and Guido Guidi (All Hail Megatron). Thanks to Tahnee for providing the info and source for a better cover image.

  2. Now don't Chris has to get the story approve by Hasbro before publishing not very fimilar with the comic writing procedures. If so then this pretty much shows that the Fallen maybe brought out the devil in Megatron. Cause it looks as Megatron eyes are purpleish instead of red.

    Got it on preorder

  5. The reflection in the golden shard thingy sure looks like soundwave~ hehe~

Megs kneeling down? How can this be???

  6. Looks like the gold thingy either shows the Fallen's face or the Decepticon symbol.

  7. The comic book writer has said in the part...these comics will go back and tell the story of The Fallen. The fallen is a character.

Why does everything not believe this when it was told by the writer himself.

  8. "[We're going to] explore the background of The Fallen - the main villain of the movie - as well as expand on the 'Reign of Starscream' story that we're doing and tie everything in to what this next movie is going to be,"

  9. "He's not the backstabbing, visual G1-type character. He's more of like a military guy. So in 'Destiny' we're going to see a lot more involvement with [the backgrounds of] Prime and Megatron, [as well as] Cybertron's history and how that affects the present day."

    (talking about Soundwave)

  12. Hmm..interesting...

Seeing this image makes me wonder (and this is just guesswork here)...

Perhaps there's a chance that Bay *might* be recreating the Unicron Saga? I seem to recall that Megs hated being beholden to Unicron, but had no choice but to obey, lest he be permanently destroyed...

And since that rumor about the third movie came out, it also makes me think that perhaps TF2 will be the return of Megatron and the appearance of the Fallen/Unicron, and perhaps TF3 might be the return of Optimus Prime? Again, just wild guesswork, but perhaps there might be something in it.

And if it does turn out that that's what happens, I TOTALLY called it! :)

On a more flippant note, it's nice to see Megs kneeling for a change, as opposed to being inflated with his own sense of supposed self-importance and invulnerablility.

Ditto Gregory on that, BTW...preordered both this AND the Alan foster prequel movie book for TF2.

  13. me preordered too... alliance 01 ended too soon... can't wait for 02...

  14. The description talks about the prequil showing us the beginnings of the war between autobots and decepticons. Maybe megatron kneeling is part of that past before the war or at the very beginning before he started his conflict.

  15. i agree with Gregory. his eyes do kinda look purple... this looks so cool but i'm confusede about the whole kneeling thing. what ever is on the slabe must be something/one that megs fears. And i highly doubt its soundwave.

Maybe that's because Megs is "The Fallen" or at least one of them. And the "Soundwave-like" reflection in the shard may refer to SW using it on Megs. Here's what I think might happen. Soundwave comes to earth to revive Megs but has to find the shard first. Once he finds it he revives Megs and Megs is in debt to Soundwave thus that is why he is bowing/kneeling like he is (he looks kind of pathetic.......now. But I'm sure it's because he is paying respect to SW/shard).

Then again that might be his own reflection in the shard......hard to tell. It's a small pic.

Because he have fallen... on his knee.

I can't see Megs bowing to Soundwave. I mean, doesn't Soundwave usually save Megs ass anyway? And afterwards they just stand eye to eye to each other, like a mutual respect thing. It's got to be Unicron. I can't even see Megs bowing to the Fallen either. But i know one thing, I CAN'T WAIT FOR MEGS TO RUN INTO STARSCREAM!!!!!!!Hahahahaha......

  19. I never saw Soundwave as nothing more than Megatron's lapdog. Then again, Soundwave as a mastermind is fucking genious, and an original twist in the whole series, not to mention the universe. In the prequel it explains that Optimus & Megatron ruled together peacefully, so why the hell would Megatron suddenly crave more power? This is definitely gonna be our answer.

"But i know one thing, I CAN'T WAIT FOR MEGS TO RUN INTO STARSCREAM!!!!!!!Hahahahaha......"

Definitely reminds me of IDW's Infiltration, Starscream's gonna get fucking owned.

For what? Or is it just Megatrons way to say hi?

  22. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

  23. That's the Decepticon symbol he's bowing down to.

    ReplyDelete
  24. is that the fallens face? maybe the decepticon symbol is based upon the fallen

    ReplyDelete
  25. That is SO Soundwave!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oracle1984 is right. That is the Decepticon symbol not Soundwave.

    ReplyDelete
  27. its probably the Fallen . u can see the resemblance between this figure and the head of the titanium Fallen .

    ReplyDelete
  28. Though I think its a stylized version of the Decepticon symbol (slightly altered to look like a face), I suspect its the face of a character to be introduced, from which the Decepticon symbol will later be derived by its followers. (Maybe Soundwave, Maybe "the Fallen," Maybe someone else...)

  29. this is pure sickness!! Great art!!

  30. Too easy to see that in that pivture it's Soundwave who has a connection to Megatron

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey all, just wanted to chime in...I don't believe that it's Soundwave or has anything to do with him...And the Fallen's face doesn't look like that, but I do believe it to be the seal to the Fallen's prison...Not having read past the Reign of Starscream, I'm just speculating that the Fallen somehow called out to Megatron in a mentor/student way...The hatred that the Fallen has for those who imprisoned him is constantly spewed to Megatron, causing him to become the evil that we see today...

And how the f*** do you know, how Fallens face will look like (if he will be) in the movie...?

  33. megs is gotta be bowing to fallen...bay says fallen is apocalyptic & all powerful, who else could get megs to bow?

    ReplyDelete
  34. who else could get megs to bow?

    His mother-in-law.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hello, I think he's not bowing to someone, but something. It's an icon holy to the Decepticons, or worthy of reverence perhaps. I think the "face" on this sacred triangular object is a facy rendering of the Decepticon logo.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i think that face is the fallen's who probably got megatron to "join the dark side" and as a reward for showing him the "truth" megatron made the decepticon logo his head. As for megs bowing before him, maybe the fallen is a superior being. But megs will own starscream one way or another. Prepare fo death starscream!!!hahahaha!

  37. If you look through the Transformer universe you find that there really isnt a clear idea of where the Decepticon symbol comes from... the Autobot symbol has a few different origins. Maybe Bay and company are giving us one. The symbol in the gold mirror-mirror in front of Megs has got to be the decepticon symbol... why cant the fallen be like the decepticons version of The Last Autobot (Primus created). Maybe that is who Jetfire is... just something to chew on.

Yes, it's clear. From Soundwave. It's official. What so hard to understand about that? If you don't belive it, than look at the cover of Marvel UK #1. What do you see? Optimus vs Soundwave. Becase, Soundwave was meant to be a Decepticon leader, but later they chose Megatron instead. But Decepticon logo made after Soundwave face stayed.

  39. I think the Megatron will appear in Transformers 3. Bay said Megatron isn't going to be in RoTF but will appear as a toy. Think about it. Not being in the film, but appearing in the Defiance. Defiance I think, will talk about what Megatron did after he died.

  40. Megatron might return as Galvatron. It has been finally released. The Fallen is that guy whose for Megatron is talking about.
