Furman: No Dinobots

The writers and director of Transformers already said it and now Simon Furman has told MTV the same thing - there will not be Dinobots in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

Simon Furman was a consultant on the first film and has been writing comics for Transformers in the US and UK for about 25 years. He is also the creator of "The Fallen" concept used in comics that may or may not be part of the movie.
“I think that possibility was raised briefly and fairly comprehensively shot down,” said Furman. “Much as I love the Dinobots, I’m glad.”

“The movie-verse feels quite different to me, with its own audience and far more rooted in the real world, and Dinobots wouldn’t necessarily be a great fit. Sure, if they could come up with an appropriate rationale and integral reason for them being in there, fine, but it’d need to be good, otherwise it would all start to verge on the kitsch,” said Furman.

“I think story and character often get submerged in the crash, bang wallop, but who can argue with a $700 million plus box office tally?” said Furman, “What [the film] does best, I think, is make movie Transformers distinct from classic or animated or comic Transformers. It’s very much it’s own entity, and that’s how it should be.”

“What I love is that a new generation of kids is being exposed to Transformers in the way that maybe rivals the original ’80s phenomenon,” said Furman.

  3. C'mon man, how the F can you not sneak a Dinobot in there somewhere. That shot of Grimlock on Sector 7, friggin awesome. My kids would freak if they saw that, especially the way he talks, it would create a fanbase with today's younger viewers. Just don't understand it. Damn it,top changing shit! It's a hit beacause of the past characters!

Hey old Transformers fans, move down the bench. They're looking for new ones.

  4. Exactly. This isn't G1, and I'm sick of the whiners wishing it to be a re-creation of that.
I love the 80's as much as anyone, but leave that story where it is. I want something new done with the fanchise, and I want to see it taken to new places. I don't want a repeat of the last 25 years of TF history.

This place is for working stiffs gotta keep their cars running so they can keep bread on the table, it's not for rich-assed, snot-nose kids who wanna go dragging around on the Orange Belt. I don't allow no smoking in here, neither! You wanna' butt, you go out in the junkyard!

  12. Hi, I'm Simon Furman, a comic book writer who is on no level involved with the making of these movies (nor should I be). Nevertheless, I have some thoughts... opinions, really, that I'd like people to regard as unusually informed.

After all, those comic books I write? They're Transformers comics! So if anyone is going to know a lot about the decision making processes that go into making a Transformers movie: It's gonna be me.

Jesus, they asked him, so he answered them, what he think about that. What is your problem with that? Envious?

  14. ok i have your dinobot story line right here...they had already come to earth millions of years ago, three items look like sarcophagus, are sent to a museum, the fighting between the autobots and decepticons activate the protoform scanning program, they scan three dinosaur skeletons, sludge, snarl, and of course grimlock, and there of course malfunctioning so they are very dumb...of course i see this happening more toward the end of the movie for a possable third sequel.

I understand, uh, one of the perpetrators, uh, defecated on the dashboard. Now, I woulda thought you'd be madder than hell at that. And I thought you woulda reported that.

The guy's right, relax everyone, but of course, the ability to remain anonymous will give anyone the courage to say whatever they want, so there's no stopping it.

Shame that I might have to possibly sit next to you people when the movie comes out. Oh well though, it'll all be worth it to see if they put any of the shots I was in into the movie. Extra roles are fun :)
