Revenge Crosses $600 Million Mark

After 13 days of release, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen crossed the $600 million threshold in worldwide sales of $607,683,781. Monday sales took the movie over the top with $6.4M from the US and $9.9M ($299.8M total) from international sales ($307.9M total). For comparison it appears it took an estimated 40 days for the first Transformers movie to reach that mark. The first movies worldwide total was $708.2M ($319.2M US, $389.0 International). It appears that at this rate the movie might cross that value by the end of weekend.

  1. While the numbers are skyrocketing, it doesn't tell the whole picture on who is actually watching this movie. I'm hearing all these complaints, yet the numbers continue to rise.

My guess is that the unwashed kids and general non-geek non-TF public are really digging this movie. They probably don't want a good thinky-artsy intelligent movie. Much as we WANT a top-notch quality movie, the masses are probably not only ignoring the complaints but also just plain want to see the dumbest loudest most complicated CGI movie in the world that is worth the $10 admission. Screw the story. Screw the script. People probably just want to see the special effects and action scenes and then buy the toys.

  2. If they decide to do a third movie they should take their time and pay attention to all details and do a mind blowing send off to the trilogy, unlike the 3rd Matrix movie and the 3rd X-Men just to name a few, because the bar has been set to high for a let down!!!

  3. Hey LionBoogy give us all a break, alot of us are going through tough times here, and a movie like ROTF is just what we need.

We don't have to stress ourselves out or see something in the movie that'll remind us of our daily problems, all we want is a movie that we can watch and enjoy at the same time.

So according to what you said everybody that didnt like the movie is a " geek TF fan " right? is that including all movie critics that bashed the movie?

You know what I feel sorry for you probably you need to get out of your parents basement, and live to be a real person in a real world. If you always think that you live in this special world of yours, well guess what, you dont!

Next time just mind your own F***ing business and let us your so called "unwashed kids and general non-geek non-TF public" enjoy this one. Because this one is made for the masses....

  4. Even if that were the case, why does it bother you so much? You think this movie is loud and annoying and dumb ... so what? Does it mean that if everyone else likes it than hollywood will only make Michael Bay movies? Does it mean that Michael Bay might not try something different with TF3? Do you think Michael Bay will only listen to you if you call his fans dumb? Or his movie dumb?

No, what I think it means is that since you hated this movie so much, you want it to fail. A selfish, petty reaction by the small minded.

You can hate this movie, you can comment on this site freely your hate for this movie, and we would read it, disagree with some of it, maybe agree with you on other points. But to call others that like it dumb, just goes to show your maturity level.

LionBoogy, you might think that we're dumb for liking this movie, but your comment above goes to show that you are actually below us. You, Roger Ebert, and all the others that put down those who enjoyed a movie you didn't, all seem to think you're better simply because of the movies you like and dislike.

  5. WHOA WHOA WHOA... I have to apologize here. Firstly, I watched it FIVE TIMES guys. Full-price non-matinee admission. And I plan to watch it a sixth and seventh in the theaters.

My comment was trying to understand why the numbers are so high, not paint it out to be like everyone who enjoyed it is a buncha losers. It was a critical analysis on why we desire a movie that is so completely rambunctious and obnoxious. Believe me, I'm all for that. :)

If anything, I would say I'm the loudest defender of this movie. :) Again, apologies if you misunderstood my comment.

  6. Oops, sorry LionBoogy. Misread your post then. Ok, I'll say my post at 1:42AM is directed towards Roger Ebert.

  7. Roger Ebert has had a hard time of late. Remember he lost half of his mouth and tongue recently. That's enough to make anyone act shitty.

  8. Oh yeah, I totally read the article from Roger Ebert and while I can see where he's coming from, I highly disagree with his position on reviewing movies. He's basically telling us to eat our healthy vegetables, wake up and go to bed on time, be sure to drive a Toyota Camry, and be good little schoolchildren.

But that's not for me. I don't want anything BUT to skip classes, drive a badass Camaro, drink root beer, wake up whenever I feel like it, and go bungee jumping off of Mount Everest.

The question arises (much like TF2) is WHY WE DON'T WANT THAT. Why we do NOT want to watch intelligent art house movies, even though they are critically aclaimed and very deserving of their status.

I don't speak for everyone, but I'm just asking a thought-provoking question on who exactly is watching TF2 and really enjoying it and willing to pay top dollar for unabashed fun and thrills. I for one am completely utterly enjoying it and I still can't understand why. haha And believe me, I'm a HUGE Michael Bay fan!

If we are turning into a nation of deviant badasses, hey, that's AWESOME. :) I just hope we don't all turn out to be elitists like Roger Ebert. haha

  9. @LionBoogy -

I think the answer to your question is that sometimes we just wanna have fun.

Sure, I like critically acclaimed movies, and I really respect the people that can weave such an interesting plot and characters. Those movies can be thought-provoking and maybe even change the way I used to think about something. I LOVE a movie that makes me think!

And that brings me to my point ... the movie theater experience really doesn't work with movies like that, and if you think about it you'll realize that it was never intended for movies like that. Why do I need to see a drama on a huge screen and with loud surround sound speakers and a totally dark theater? Okay, yeah, the setting does help to put you into the movie, but it's not necessary.

So, a drama movie will make some money in a theater ... maybe even do very respectably, but it really shines on DVD. A movie like Transformers 1 & 2 are so well designed for a theater that you just HAVE to see it at least once in the theater and experience the fun.

The world isn't going to hell in a handbasket because TF2 is doing so well ... it's just that this movie was designed to shine in a theater setting and the movie going public knows it. We all need a break from the everyday stresses of life, and this movie provides that in spades for most. Oh, and it takes you back to your childhood, which we all remember fondly.

  10. THANK YOU!

I think you hit the mark right there. That is a perfect explanation of why a movie like this is doing so well. It was designed for people who enjoy the whole mass theater experience, not discrete home theater where they can sit and ruminate about the wisdom of the eastern pearl or something deep like that.

And no, I don't think the world is going to hell in a handbasket either. I just want to be sure that TF2 and movies of this type never ever go away! I want the thrills and chills of rocket riding sound-blasting entertainment on a jumbo-sized screen. Popcorn and soda and surrounded by 100s of fans. That's the movie experience I want. :)
