Leaked Transformers 3 Movie Script? (Updated)

The Allspark has received a copy of what is labeled as a draft script for Transformers 3 by Ehren Kruger, finished on November 24th, 2009. Considering that last leaked script for Transformers 2 was fake, I am not holding my breath this is the real thing. Actually the script itself indicates it is fake with way to many fan boy references, reformatting of most of the characters (which would make creating brand new CGI models for everyone, not a cheap task), and more. Feel free to read and determine for yourself the validity of it. TF3 logo image from Scorpio.

Update 2: Nelson, Michael Bay's site admin, posted "Their is a script out there being reported on TF sites as being legit. It's fake. Amazing that someone would take so much time to write so much for nothing." Thanks to Dudelsack for the link.

Update 1: Here is a more detailed description and analysis now that I have had time to do more than just skim the script.

The script is essentially a love letter to the history of Transformers. There is a jump to the past so some characters both new and old can get a makeover in their more famous alt modes. In some cases there are literal re-creations of moments from the generation one cartoon series (especially "More Than Meets the Eyes") and Transformers: The Movie. Most of the new characters are classic G1 with Percepter, Laserbeak, Mirage, Hound, Thundercracker and many more. The script has some rather clever ideas and plot twists such as given Prime a trailer using Mirage's holographic technology, the introduction of a new plot McGuffin with the Key to Vector Sigma and retroactively correcting many of the plot wholes from the first movie. The final act has a moment to up the Devastator ante with Superion vs. Bruticus while having Prime and Megatron once again go at it, with Soundwave joining the battle with his mini-friends (Ravage, Rumble, and co). The final scenes make for an excellent cliffhanger moment. It was an enjoyable read that gave me some warm and fuzzies as I recognized many of the moments from my childhood love of Transformers.

Having said that, all that is also the very reason this script is NOT the real deal. Michael Bay has made it clear he doesn't really like doing homages, limiting it as much as possible while this script is just thick with it. The ideas, while huge and interesting, have rather long sequences (including a space fight) being pure CGI and for most scenes the Transformers are almost constantly in robot mode. Part of the reason for the emphasis on human interactions, human technology and the vehicle alt modes is it saves on the budget. The final pages, with the cliffhanger, also breaks a Bay rule of keeping movies contained to itself.

Finally, this script doesn't have that "emotional hook" that Bay, the writers, etc loved harping on (in a silly attempt to elevate their work to more than it really is but whatever works I guess). For the first movie it was a boy and his first car, the second was boy becomes man as he accepts his responsibilities, and this one has a brief moment where Sam and Michaela become engaged but nothing else really.

Overall, I was entertained by the script and would not mind this being the real deal. Sadly that is not the case. Maybe IDW can do an "Elseworlds" type thing with in it comic book form. There was clearly a lot of thought put into this so thanks to the writer for putting together an enjoyable read.

  1. Long time no see,

i'm on page 19.. and its not bad.. the story reminds me to the G1 Series.. (also the new characters) ... and i like this Decepticon Briefing.. they have more to talk and to interact.. and not just only make monster sounds.. ok.. i go on with reading..

  2. Yes this is interesting. If it's a fake, then it's a damn good one and props to whoever wrote it.

  3. If it is fake, somebody MAKE this a movie though, lol.

  4. I don´t think it´s fake, you just can´t come up with a 126-page script like if it was some school paper due for monday morning.

I mean, why would somebody do that? For a couple guys to post it on their blogs? Is that it? It looks like so much work for such a stupid reason.

No man, I´m not buying that. I believe the script is legit.

  5. To Marduk:

Yes, but think if it IS fake. Now it has gotten onto one of the most popular TF blogs on the web! Some guys writing a fake one to post on their blogs? Heck yes!! Just see how it's spread so far! Anyone familiar with script-writing could create something like this. Sure, it would take time, but still, it would definitely get some heads to turn, that's for sure. Some people will do anything for web fame, even write a 126 page script for their favorite movie series. It's really not that improbable.

  6. Never underestimate the power of fanfiction.

Some are actually quite good. Others are bent on the more.. uhh.. yeeaaahh.. haha

You don't have to be a professional writer to write a decent fan-focused screenplay, fake or not. Look at the Harry Potter or Twilight fanbase.

  7. Just finished reading it. If this is real I'm worried. As a fanfic it's interesting. As a multi-million dollar movie there's no way this'll fly.

There's some good parts but the overall story and style leads me to believe this is fake.

  8. The script is fake. When the movie comes out, you'll see that I was right.

  10. and i agree no one is going to bust there ass writing a 126 page script for movie and give credit toehren Krugher and not get anything out of it!

  11. As a writer, fanfiction or not, that's all you do. You write and write and write. Day, night, whenever. Sometimes in your sleep. Writers don't get paid very much and most of the time not at all. Sometimes writers put out 500-page stories, sometimes just 1-sentence thoughts on a napkin for those Ah-Ha! moments. You shouldn't be surprised at how many script gets rejected. And it's back to the writing board again for another 130 pages.

It's a good script, but don't take it seriously. What translates well into fanboy heads doesn't necessarily work out for a film in Michael Bay's head. In the end, the Director makes the final decision about how the film will look and feel.

  12. It's fake, and here is why ... remember the Nemesis in the second movie? It was busted up beyond recognition. To have it suddenly working would not fit. It's good fanfiction, but that's all it is.

    -Kek

PS: One more thing. For those saying that this is real simply because it was written, remember the leaked script for the second movie? Yeah, that was WAY off, too.

  13. I hope this is the 3rd movie, if not bay take note and make this. Its awesome

  14. A fun and interesting plot but not what should happen. They miss several key things.

    1. Too many G1 refrences (The spike thing was enough)

    2. Too much large scales CGI Models. The Ark and The Nemesis would be enough alone.

    3. The ending is way too much "Buy the toys" speak. To make the ending better Soundwave should survive and be captured. Then escape at the end freeing Megatron and Starscream who then flee to new Cybertron. Prime and the Autobots should crashland on Earth in a dormant Volcano (Armada and Beastwars refrence)

    4. Time travel is a lame concept and even worse when it ends up on May 8th 1984 with the Autobots on earth. Although it does set the scene for the original movie.

P.s. Thanks for crediting me :)

  15. And so it begins. A whole raft of fan boys going "It's Real" and "It's Fake"!

If someone does not make a movie about fanboys I will be shocked cos you lot are the most predictable bunch of tossers I have ever come across.

What's the average age her? 13?

  16. HAHAHAH ITS HILARIOUS maybe fake but bloody funny but THEY SO TOTTALY HAVE TO ADD THOSE CHARACTERS AND PROWL!!

  17. It might be a real draft (by Kruger or not) just wrote to give an idea of what the movie should be.
Maybe Hasbro wants to show Bay the way things should be for TF3.
They might pick up ideas from this draft for next installment...
There was indeed a few good ones in it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It might be the real deal just as it was the real deal the rejected draft script of Transformers2 that leaked on the 'net on November 2007... if anyone remembers it... Still the November date.. you know...
Some elements of that draft script were legit, Devastator was in it too and it was in the final script... but everything else was changed completely.
So it's highly likely that like that time and with the leaked script of the first movie as well it's just a way for Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg to make a worldwide survey with no real costs to read people comments on blogs and forums everywhere so that they would know how the general public might react to some elements and what must be rejected, rewritten from scratch or if everything is wrong and a new script with completely different ideas has to be developed...

  19. alright, i thought it was good except them going back in time. i like victor sigma and prime's trailer idea. i also like the new autobot characters inferno, hound, mirage, perceptor and ofcourse wheeljack. but forgeting about previous rotf characters is lazy and stupid. bringing ravage and frenzy back with no explonation is wrong. i want them back but not without explonation as to how. soundwave as a tank is a no-no and so is downgrading to g1 or older alt modes. starscream killing megs is to far but betraying and then re-joining him like in all hail megatron would be nice. reformating everyone is dumb. new decepticon characters is fine. combaticon idea is again imposible with out brawl explination. swindle is a drone so he is ok. i would rather have menasor vs supireon rather than bruticus.referance to g1 transformers cartoon as "that new show" is funny and would be cool if it was modern day and in stead of g1 it was transformers animated. although i love g1 with a burning passion, to movie-fy it is pointless do to our advancment in technology. absolutly love the limited time the main humans got. hate the go back in time thing cause it defeats the purpose of the first two movies. overall i thought this script was a legit brainstorm of ideas. some were good and well thought out while others were lazy put togethers of previous ideas and incarnations. they have two years two figure it out so they should stop being lazy. and last i dont like the idea of a 4th transformers. love the movie series but unless the third one rocks the 1st and second one away, a fourth is a little far fetched. going into space was useless. with all the brainstormed cg1 modles from robots, to space to cybertron, this movie would cost more than the first two combined. although the audiance might not like another combiner, (and trust be, neither will the people in charge of making them,) it would be fun and unique to shoe to devestator sized robots fight each other. devestartor and menasor v.s. superion and protetobots would blow my socks off. all this is just my opinoin so its whatever.

  20. Yeah i agree. If its a fake script, then its a damn good one and whoever made it had the right idea.

  21. according to nelson it's fake:

  22. Not bad, but I do not see it as a movie more like a future cartoon series instead. I do not believe Bay would ever consider this as the next movie. Even though the Knight Rider jokes were not that bad. It still looks more like a tv series than it does a movie.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I’ll try to make this as spoiler-free as possible...

That draft is, actually, quite impressive. Ehren Kruger actually pens an above-average script, which contains as little foolish gags as possible and lots of in-jokes for fans, and is actually a solid story providing personality to (let’s say) most. This should ensure that those who blamed Kruger for ruining RotF were talking out their butts.

However, the main problem is that the storyline is STAR TREK 2009, inversed. There it was time-travel that created an alternate reality: here Kruger turns it on his head to make it time-travel that sets in place the G1 universe! I mean WTF? Don’t just stick to the original generation, that’s just pandering to the fans! RotF had a far greater spread, paying homage to all the newer shows!

And Kruger missed out an integral part of TFilm2: Jetfire! How come they didn’t enlist him?

Beyond being tied too much into G1, it's really great draft, and would make a fine fanfic.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I would say it was fake BUT, I also thought it wasn't that bad! Here is an idea though wasn't their a Transformers fan that drew what Longhaul should look like in robot form and Bay liked it and used it, sooooooooo maybe Ehren Kruger and Bay should track this kid down and let him pitch in!?!

    ReplyDelete
  25. it can't be real because:

1.- No too many sexual refferences that is normal an one Michael Bay movie

    2.-Too much obviously G1 style

3.- No too many human characters that has been common on these movies

    4.- No highly military participation

    ReplyDelete
  26. Agree!
    If it's a fake, it's a really good one!
I like it a lot especially the ending... Bay MUST hire the person who wrote this!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah...it was fake when the new characters from the second movie weren't in it. Michael would never go without the Twins....

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's definently well-written, fake or not, kudos to whoever wrote it. Although the time travel element is kind of silly and I was saddened by the lack of Jolt and Sideswipe. But I like the opening with Breakdown & Inferno in New York, that's my favourite bit.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Fake - it does a nice job of setting up G1 though with the ark landing in the mountain side...but I don't see it lasting long enough to be a full lenght movie. This would only last about an hour...

    ReplyDelete
  30. this movie may not be ideal for michael bay, but it would be a very good animated movie

    ReplyDelete
  31. Am I the only one here who thinks that this script is a piece of crap?

The script read more like a 2-hour long Geewun Fanboy Wetdream than a legitimate third installment to the movie trilogy...

    ReplyDelete
  32. If I want this kind of Movie. I'll go watch some G1 or the older movie. Common people get real here. Its fake, and I agree with the person above me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. thius has to be fake, am i the only one who noticed they forgot about jolt, sideswipe, skids and mudlfap, and chromia??? i stooped reading at 85 but i looked it over and saw nuttin so i hope its fake

    ReplyDelete
  34. This script is crap...I'm sorry. Who ever wrote this needs to be slapped with his rolled up script and have it shoved up his a**. Please cant we just move on from G1 and let this franchise continue on its path to the third installment.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think there is too much copied from G1 to be real one. (have read first 48 pages but will read the end of it too) for now I have to say that whoever wrote this is still (no matter that there is so much copied) done a good work in his/her own way.
But this is nothing like bay's movies.. it's too much different.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I read the whole thing and it's better than anything Bay has done. Maybe they should give it a look. And there is hardly any humor in it. read it Bay!

    ReplyDelete
  37. NO WAY! Michael Bay don't you consider this. Do not cave to these dillusional folk who like this fake and sorry excuse for a script. Its so clear and obvious to see that this writer clearly can not be original. The story has been done people go rent the animated movie if you want to see Hound and Mirage or even "Spike" haha what a joke. Michael Bay do not change, simply Transform.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Not a bad script. Maybe fake, maybe not.... I enjoyed reading it. Many fan favorites from my childhood came back and the connection with the 80's is an excellent idea! There are some things that I would tighten up to make more clearer connections on. The idea of this script could fly for the 3rd movie. One question that I did have... who was Herb exactly?? I was thinking this person would end up being the dude from sector 7 in the first movie (Sims, I believe). A youger version of him would be more appealing and funny I think in place of Herb. At one point I was thinking Herb is Sam's Dad... but that would not make any sense. Did I misread something or what??

  39. Like I was saying before... don't underestimate the fanfic writers out there who will not hesitate to write 200-page fics about their favorite stuff. That's all they ever do! Like the kitbashers and the modders and collectors, etc. They're not in it for fame or money. So kudos to him for getting you all riled up over nothing. haha

At least we know us diehard TFers are paying attention!

  40. I stopped reading this peiece of sh** When they went up to space. C'mon "Oh Mikaela, Oh Sam...I'm an intern, lets get married." Horrible! Yeah lets incorporate more characters...Hello there is a budget and time limit to a motion picture. Wow, going back to the past that means Jazz is alive too...YAY! "Optimus why is my picture disappearing?" "We need to get your parents together Sam or else you wont exist." See I can write too and the story would be great. Lets call it Transformers 3 revenge of the who gives an EFF! I bet all of you who like this script are Lord of the Ring fans too.

  41. Wow...this is actually pretty good (except for some minor stuff). THIS is how a Transformers movie should be.

Someone has a great fantasy (and too much time on his hands)...:)

    ReplyDelete
  42. i believe that the writers put this out to see how fans would react it ......if everyone says yeaaaaaa..then i bet part of the movie will include shit form this script...i like it tho...its like my 126 page book of imagination...i like the back in time idea

    ReplyDelete
  43. While I think the script is good and an interesting story, I have to agree with those who said this is way too G1. If I wanna see a movie like this I can just watch the original Transformers: The Movie. I want something new and different, but still Transformers. Ya know?

Also, on a second read of the script, gotta admit the story is a bit thin. I know the owner of this blog feels that Michael Bay's use of themes (ie: boy gets car, boy gets girl) is a gimmick and annoying, I have to disagree. Without it, all we have is a cartoon that can only be enjoyed by a 7 year old.

  45. Doesn't anybody listens to LionBoogy? It's fake! Like Kek says, if you wanna see this movie just watch the original Transformers The Movie.

I didn't read the script, cause I don't wanna know the (hole)story when I'm going to the cinema.
But read about the time travel idea, that's very lame and makes the first movie obsolete!

  46. I REALLY hope it's fake (i only skimmed in case it is real)because even though I LOVED that they were adding a lot more robo-dialogue than human, I never once saw Arcee's name or any femmes! Not that I'm a total feminist, but it's still nice to see kick-ass(aft?) girls even once in a while.
Mostly it was all Wheeljack, OP, and Perceptor going back and forth. Right?
And I barely got to see my fav robo's names (Ratchet and Ironhide) All I really read was that Ratchet's head was being ripped off....which would be really cool to see, but also depressingly sad.
    I need more proof.

  47. For all classic Transformers fans who have been feeling cheated since Michael Bay did the first live-action movie.. I SAY WE ARE UNITE and LOBBY HOLLYWOOD into producing this as either a separate movie, or a TV-miniseries, or even a new animated series (that is not "kiddy"-oriented).. TILL ALL ARE ONE...

  51. MORE NEWS FOR TF3... Well, I hope it is...
From the Hasbro website's Battle Bios [found here: http://www.hasbro.com/transformers/en_US/discover/Battle-Bios.cfm], it sounds like Jazz is going to be back for the third movie.
His quotes says, "After Mission City, everybody figured I was a goner, but thanks to RATCHET-- and a little piece of the ALLSPARK, I'm back in the game-- ready to kick tailgate and take names! Let's just see that low-down creep MEGATRON try and put his claws on me now!"
I'm feeling pretty sure our favorite silver saboteur is going to make a comeback. :D

  52. @Tori-O's

Ooh I hope this is true!! I just watched your link, that would be awesome!! But what kind of car would he be, if he talks big of himself to Megs, or what kind of upgrade did he get from Ratchet what makes him so fast/agile? Would Jazz sill be a Pontiac Solstice?

  53. I just finished reading the script and Im impressed. They should totally follow this script for the next installment. It sounds like it would make a great movie and have awesome cinematics. I mean think about it, spaceship, area 51, more Devastator like robots and even bigger fights. This script would make a great movie and hopefully even great sequels after it. Autobot City and a new Cybertron, Ultra Magnus, these things would make the possiblities infinate. If they were smart they would follow this script...it would make an awesome second trilogy. It would also be a good intrro to more autobots and decepticons as well as Unicron. No matter, TF3 will be a great movie!!!
