Transformers 3 Cleared in Indiana Accident (Updated)

TMZ is reporting that Transformers 3 has been cleared in the accident that occurred in Hammond, Indiana. The accident led to a significant head injury to extra Gabriela Cedillo. Sadly they also reveal she is paralyzed on left side of her body. No details beyond that nor an update on the lawsuit which will probably take a while to get sorted out.
A rep for the Indiana Occupation Safety and Health Administration tells TMZ ... an investigation into the September 1 accident -- in which a tow cable snapped and sliced through Gabriella Cedillo's skull -- concluded that producers operated by the book in coordinating the fateful stunt.

Instead, IOSHA tells TMZ the accident occurred "due to the failure of a weld connecting a car to a cable. The weld was made by a certified welder and all necessary safety precautions were in place."

The IOSHA rep added, "No citations or fines will be issued. This was an unfortunate and unforeseeable accident."
Update: TMZ has posted a follow-up to the article with a comment from the family on the state's conclusions which came down to "sh@% happens."
The family claims, "The mere fact that the welding was performed by a 'certified welder' ... does not in any way suggest that the weld was performed properly." The family continues, "In fact the evidence is clear that it was done in a slip-shod fashion."

The statement concludes, "It is completely irresponsible for even a local government bureaucrat to rush to such sloppy conclusions."
This statement clearly comes from the family lawyers for the lawsuit as a means of PR control (in case goes to a jury). An OSHA investigation just verifies that rules and regulations were followed. The level of craftmanship is not really OSHA's jurisdiction, something like that would have to be handled as part of the lawsuit.

  3. She was probably so excited to be a tiny part of this movie and to end up in the circumstances she now finds herself in is truly a tradgedy.
I'm glad the investigation found that the production did everything properly. The filming of these big action movies will always have some risk involved, as minimal as it may be. What happened however unfortunate was simply a freak accident and not caused by negligence as so many media outlets suggested.

  6. Hope she continues to fight for the rest of her life and moves on with a lawsuit. It's such an unfortunate accident - I bet she was very happy to be a part of the production and was left out almost handicaped. If they don't find the 'certified welder' guilty, then Paramount definitely needs to grant her medical expenses coverage for the rest of her life - I see no other way for justice.
