DOTM Cast are NASCAR Grand Marshalls

NASCAR has announced that Transformers: Dark of the Moon starts Josh Duhamel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and director Michael Bay will serve as Grand Marshals for the Daytona 500 on February 20th, 2011. The marketing synergy isn't really a surprise considering three of the Transformers in the movie are NASCAR stock cars, which will also be at the event as pace cars. The full press release is below.

On a related note, Rosie and Bay were at the New York Toy Fair on Monday to promote the toys and movie. While there apparently held has a private screening of DOTM. The rumor is Bay showed around 30 minutes of footage to Hasbro execs but sadly whatever was shown was not for public viewing. A few more images of the pair with Ultimate Prime can be found here.
NASCAR Stock Cars Featured as Characters in “TRANSFORMERS: Dark of the Moon” – First Official Appearance Anywhere

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The stars of “TRANSFORMERS: Dark of the Moon”– Josh Duhamel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and director Michael Bay – will serve as the Grand Marshals for 53rd running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, airing at 12 p.m. ET on FOX. As Grand Marshals, the TRANSFORMERS cast will deliver the four most famous words in motorsports – “Gentlemen, start your engines.”

In addition, the modified NASCAR stock cars featured in the movie will make their first public appearance by leading the 43-car field during the pace laps of “The Great American Race,” the kick-off event to the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

The Daytona 500 will not be Bay or TRANSFORMERS’ first introduction to the NASCAR world. In 2009, Bay piloted the official pace car at a NASCAR Sprint Cup race to promote the DVD release of “TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen.” NASCAR drivers Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman also took part, racing with branded images of opposing AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS on their cars and uniforms. Bay credits his vision to include NASCAR stock cars in the new TRANSFORMERS film to this experience.

“We’re honored to have the stars and director from this blockbuster film franchise “TRANSFORMERS: Dark of the Moon” serve as Grand Marshals of ‘The Great American Race,’” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said.

“As an added bonus for our fans, three cars from the movie will be on location during Speedweeks and we all look forward to watching them lead the field for the 53rd running of the Daytona 500 on the newly paved racing surface.”

In the days leading up to the Daytona 500, race fans can view the TRANSFORMERS NASCAR stock cars at the Chevy Display located in the Midway outside Turn 4.

  6. More Bay shows Rosie around less viewers Transformers3 is going to get. She is his worst female casting ever, really.

  7. The more I see Prime and the trailer, the more I want it. It's really not bad looking after you get used to the initial butterfly weirdness to it. I don't think it was meant to be transformed that way.

  8. Weakest super mode in Optimus Prime history. At least in the movie it should look decent.

  9. The "butterfly" look is a wrong transformation. All wings are supposed to point down (the top wings are supposed to be lower than the other two sets).

  10. It's pretty cool that DOTM will have a presence at such a high profile event.

  11. Optimus Prime turned into Tooth Fairy for Transformers3. Geez. That's dumb indeed. Also such a design is a ripoff of Gundam Seed and other Gundam series models.

  12. Anonymous @ 11:26am...........the top two things aren't wings...they're penises

  13. rosie is so pretty, i cant wait to see her in the movie!!

  14. Transformers designs haven't been ripping off Gundam. They actually share the same designers or design factories who embrace the Japanese Samurai Warrior theme. This has been going on since the 1980s when there were TONS of big robot shows besides Gundam, so really nothing new about that.

  15. Could they have found any uglier girl for this role?

  16. @ anonymous 2:51- they could have asked your mom! I mean seriously, the way she looks isn't gonna make the script or the acting any different, get over it!

    Please be kidding

  18. @Anonymous 2/16/2011 3:11 PM: Rosie can't even act, many confirmed that already. And the way she looks is enough to kill the movie. Surely it's not going to bring in more viewers.

  19. No matter what girl they cast, not everyone is gonna be pleased. Besides its just some girl with a tiny assed part...hardly something to bitch about.
Besides, don't you know beauty is in the eye of the "beer holder"? :D If you think she sucks...just get buzzed before you go see it...will smooth things right over for ya ;) lol

  20. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on Rosie, so I am free and happy to say I am excited to see her in the movie. Although she might not have the best acting skills, neither did Megan. They're both pretty much eye-candy, and I really don't think she'll have that big of an affect on the film itself. Its viewers? Maybe.

But if you're a true Transformers fan, what do views matter anyway? You just wanna see the movie, so stop worrying about what others think and just wait for yourself. Who knows? She might actually be a pretty good addition to the team. :)

  21. I sure as hell not goin to see dotm to see megan nor rosie...im more interested in the BOTS,NUFF SAID!!!!!!!

  22. Ditto, Kup. The movie is about ROBOTS, not the lead female's good looks. Besides, what do you trolls out there stand to gain by bashing someone you don't even know on a movie you haven't even seen yet? LAME.

  23. I agree that the whole lead actress thing is a little old and over blown but and I watch the movie for the bots because thats what the movie is supposed to be about....but.... I bet you she has more lines in the movie than any one transformer. And that is where Bay screws up. Giving an actress (megan or rosie) who hasnt proven herself more lines than Ironhide or Ratchet or Starscream or Bumbl..... wait he doesnt even give Bumblebee a voice when he is probably the second most important autobot when it comes to story and relationships with humans.

  24. Man that new Optimus look spretty awesome, about time they utlised the trailer in the movies...

  25. I wouldn't care if there were no lead actress & Sam came out of the closet, I'm in it for the robot action

Hahaha!! Good one !! Totally agree !

  27. To my shame, I don't have a single Transformer toy, yet (used to have Grimlock as a kid, though). I've given thought to buying one, but real life and its bills (eg. mortgage) must come first. Maybe this one...

As for Rosie/Megan/any-other-female-lead... As a friend of mine once said... "Get your boobs out of the way! I wanna see the giant robots!"

  28. "Get your boobs out of the way! I wanna see the giant robots!"

    I agree completely

  29. Ugh... Is he going to fly with that thing on? It isn't aerodynamic at all. I thought Bay like more realism when it came to things like that.
