Brazil Dark of the Moon Screening Mini-Review

Brazilian website The Omelette (english) has posted a mini-review of the 1st worldwide screening of the completed version of Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon that Michael Bay attended in Rio de Janeiro.

The translation is imperfect but in short the writer seemed to enjoy the movie, especially the 3D, noting that the franchise has returned to its roots and is better than the Revenge of the Fallen. (via S4TE) Thanks to someone in the comments, here is a better translation to English.

As a Brazilian Transformers fan who also happens to be a professional translator, I could not help myself from fixing the translation. Here it is:
Transformers 3 - The Dark of the Moon | The Frying Pan
Michael Bay debutted the film in Rio de Janeiro
Marcelo Forlani June 19, 2011

Omelete has just left the first world exhibition of Transformers 3 - The Dark of the Moon The screening in Rio de Janeiro was attended by director Michael Bay, who entered the room to thank all those present and said that he was very excited and proud of what he had done. After repeating the introduction to the Latin American colleagues who were in the next room, Bay returned to our room to watch his work. But he didn’t stay for the whole movie. Probably because not even him can stand all the noise he put in the third act.

In fact, separating the movie in three separate acts even feels wrong, as Transformers 3 is just an enormous climax. Scene after scene, the film keeps pumping up the volume, its battles and the damage the robotic struggles cause to the landscape.

The 3D impresses from the first scene, in which the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out at their home planet. From that you can have an idea of the scale of the mechanic planet of the two factions, Cybertron. Action scenes are not lacking. They take place in air, highways, and cities, especially in Chicago, where the destruction is immeasurable.

To the fans who liked the first movie and disapproved of the mess of the second, one should say that the third Transformers takes the franchise back to its origins. The humor and action are a little more balanced. But it is worth pointing out once again that, with Michael Bay, there is nothing less than enormous, which makes for a grueling experience for those who aren’t all that into robots in disguise.

Ah, yes. I forgot a detail, Megan Fox’s bsence is not even notices. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is beautiful, runs, screams (with an English accent, which is always a plus) and follows Sam (Shia LaBeouf) everywhere. The former Victoria's Secret model also appears walkingwith her back to the camera only in panties and shirt. This is pure Michael Bay, who had not being a filmmaker, would probably work at an auto repair shop, which might explain his enormous appreciation for cars.

Transformers 3 debut on 1 July in Brazil, in 2-D and 3-D. Wait for Omelete’s video interviews with the director, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Josh Duhamel.

  2. I love how this reviewer loved the film but had to constantly make a snide remark to keep up appearance.

So what if the love interest was dressed a certain way in an intimate scene. It's not like shes dressed for work. It's not like natalie portman didn't show us her ass in the your highness trailer.

What with the noise complaints, why do people act like kids around bay movies. This isn't the loudest movie every made. That might actually be saving private ryan.

jeez I look forward to more back handed reviews

  5. Actually the loudest movie ever made was Demolition Man with Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock. haha I'm only joking but goddam that movie was soooo freakin' KICKASS and LOUD! Explosions and stuff everywhere, it was insane.

That said, I'm looking forward to TF3 no matter what. I plan to watch it over 10 times in the theaters, so I don't care what anyone says. I'm watching it TEN TIMES OR MORE. And I'm not waiting for a freakin' DVD or Blu-Ray!

Theater seat, popcorn, big freakin' screen, 3D, here I come! AGAIN! Just like the last two! BOOM BOOM BAYBEE!

  11. I typically do not read critics reviews. They clearly do not match up to my personal expectations whether it's a good or bad movie. Believe it or not, there are many BAD movies I really DO enjoy: Demolition Man, Daredevil, a buncha motorcycle movies and more.

What can I say about Michael Bay movies... they are bad and yet SO GOOD. I love them because of that! I don't come to watch huggy kissy mushy tooshy stuff. I want my goddam explosions and MAN ACTION! C'mon, man!

  13. Also as a professional translator, I really should proof-read my works better: "had not being"??!! C'mon dude!!! lmao (PS. the name's is Fabio, and I have a Deception logo tattoo)

  14. Thanks for the more proper translation! I can never trust what Google spits out. It's not exactly accurate when it comes to slang. Slang needs a certain kind of human touch to it to "sound right". Thanks again! :)
