Visual Effects Behind DOTM Chicago's Destruction

Below is another special effects behind the scenes video from Transformers: Dark of the Moon that focuses on how some of the effects were done for battle damaged Chicago. The video was actually released five months ago from The Daily (an iPad app) to help promote the movie but this is the first I have seen it. Thanks to Feris Othman for the find.

  1. That is my favourite scene with the destruction of that big building. I wonder how they created so qualitative destruction. It is amazing work, I even don't imagine what they'll create in 4 part of this movie.

  2. @Download Transformers: actually ILM did a way better job on the first two movies, indeed. This is a very tiny limited CGI animation both complexity and scale wise. They don't need so much time for creating and compositing a building CGI like that.
Also they were pretty sloppy on Transformers3, many CGI scenes weren't properly polished, there are so many mistakes that's just really bad.
Transformers and Transformers2 had a lot of large scale, complex CGI scenes you just can't see on Transformers3.
Unfortunately Transformers3 they did on the cheap recycling a lot of CGI models just changing something here and there. Nothing new, nothing better.

  3. So if you know so much about GGI and movies 11:33 AM and there's nothing new and nothing better why dont you go out into the real world and create your own movie in mommies basement. You seem to know all and obviously your opinion is superior to everybody else on here. so go ahead and see what you can do, you can do it man you can do it, your the best and you speak for everyone and we idle you and the hell with everyones opinion when we already got one, yours!!

  4. Yeah, same here. If you think you can do better, then go and do it! Stop complaining!

  5. @Anonymous 12/27/2011 12:40 PM: either you are a childish angry ILM employee that doesn't want customers/viewers to point out your mistakes OR you are a little kid only able to go around on the 'net insulting whoever doesn't tell you that what you like is perfect and has no flaws regardless.

  6. He's been spewing the same shit for months but never lists all the so called mistakes. Saying the same dumb shit over and over won't make it true. I think he works for Warner Brothers or Sony

  8. Transformers3 has some of the greatest special effects, action sets and stunts that I ever seen and alot of the stunts were real.Thats one thing about Bay he can put some action sets together very well and while the CGI is not perfect, in my opinion its pretty dam impressive, the attention to detail with the bots was awesome and I know because I'm an expert, because I've been working very hard on my new blockbuster in my mommies basement thankyou....HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

  9. @Anonymous 12/27/2011 5:46 PM: attention to detail? On Transformers3 they recycled their CGI models and they did a bad rendering overall. On many scenes the bots look so cartoonish that is just plain pathetic. On the first two Transformers movies ILM did an outstanding job but on Transformers3 they jumped the shark.
