Transformers Prime Cancelled After Beast Hunters Story Arc

An article from the magazine Kidscreen has verified that Hasbro is ending Transformers Prime with the 13 episode Beast Hunters story line. From AllSpark's Vivid Redshift page scan:
As for Hasbro's established stable of series, which drive the programming on its US joint venture network The Hub, the 13 episodes of Transformers Prime Beast Hunters due to launch this year represent the final chapter of the Transformers Prime story. It has grown to encompass 65 half-hour episodes that continue to roll out around the world. Look for a 75-minute Transformers Prime Beast Hunters movie to hit DVD shelves in Q4.

But that's not the end for Transformers. [Hasbro's SVP of International Distribution and Development Finn] Arnesen says a "new iteration of the animated TV series" is slated for delivery in late 2014, which looks like it might be shaping up to be the year of Autobots, given that audiences are already expecting the fourth live-action blockbuster in July.
Sadly this doesn't come as a surprise as I called this back in October when news first broke of the shortened seasons. Where prime time television considered 100 episodes to be the "magic number" for syndication (Fringe's season 5 renewal is thanks to this line of thinking), for whatever reason cartoon's "magic number" threshold is much lower at 52. The season 3 renewal was probably only because of the Beast Hunters angle to fill the gap to Generations (fall 2013) and Transformers 4 product line (spring 2014). So enjoy it while it last (trailer here) and start speculating on what Hasbro plans after TF4.

  1. So... we are left with a cliff hanger all because of one bad idea? No more Transformers: Prime? I could care less about the Beast Hunters but what about the Prime series???
    -Someone please explain....

    1. To answer your question, the season 2 cliffhanger will be addressed in the first episode of Transformers Prime Beast Hunters. Probably the end of that episode (or at least the second half) will then introduce Predaking. From there its all Beast Hunters until end of the series 12 episodes later.

  2. Actually 65 is the magic number for animation. It allows you to get four full rotations in a year of a daily run. (260 weekdays in a year, divided by 4 = 65)

  6. Why cancel a hit show to make way for the movie merchandise? That is the lamest thing I've ever heard. They'll waste all the Decepticons before episode 4 most likely and the show will be renewed with Predacons or whatever thing they do in the movie. Does anyone know if the figure redeco is going to appear in the show or is it just a gimmic to sell action figures? I hate watching fictional characters die. Didn't they get enough carnage in DOTM? How many ways can they animate Megatron & Starscream dying before it gets overused and dropped?

    1. I know what you mean, for once I would like to see a Transformers series that doesn't kill Starscream. But he'll probably be the first one to go >:[

  7. Even my mom loves that silly droid and she gets weepy when we talk about him dying. It would be so original to not kill him because its never been done. They even killed him in all the comic series. Its so lame and I hate that they'll probably have the Predacons kill the old guys because they are the new and better marketing gimmic. Unless the planned 2014 series is a continuation of the Prime I am not watching it. They nailed the original series in this one and I'm not going to get involved in another one that will aire between movies and be cancelled again for the next toyline.

  9. What about PredaKing.......? Hasbro must show at least the end of PredaKing. Also end of Starscream and Shockwave.

  10. Fear not, the ending is just for all robots in Predacon's Rising. It isn't exactly what I expected, not for Megatron and Starscream anyways, Optimus yes. I was disappointed that Starscream didn't have a bigger role, no one really did except for Optimus and Predaking. It ended with more to tell which is terrible because it's over and even the IDW comic isn't writing the rest of the story, they're too busy writing for Dinobots.

  11. Anyone else think Jhiaxus (sorry if I typoed that name) and Bludgeon will be the number 4 movie bad guys? I HOPE NOT! I want Galvatron and Starscream, preferably from the TF Prime animated in the movie. LOL! For the next animated series I want TF: Seekers. Or at least more of MegaCron and Steve Blum's Starscream.

  14. I already finished the 1st season of transformers robots in disguise 2015 and I got to say it's not that bad it's actually a continuation of prime series and I love the new autobots what I didn't like is optimus coming back he should return to the realm of the primes bumblebee is a great leader

  15. Hey, we have Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015)! Although it lacks the immense emotion of Transformers: Prime and yet, it gives is the same "Autobot" feelings. (Nevertheless, Hasbro tried to bend this new series to the kid groups of audience. TFP was rather to heartening at times.)
But the return of Optimus Prime is the greatest thing in the industry! He's back, he's back! When we thought he died for all in Predacon Rising. So this return is really a red letter event for ALL Optimus Prime Fans!
And one should watch the 1st season finale of RID, Battlegrounds 1 and 2. The Prime comes back but he preferred to stay "equivalent to Bumblebee, not as his leader". During Megatronus v/s Optimus moments the Decepticon eventually got an upper hand oh him, but this doesn't turn the fact that good always wins. Though, the episode could give the Prime a rather little, a bit less first place! (I hate to say this!)

    1. They won’t, especially not now. It’s been 9, almost 10 years since it got cancelled. The window for getting a show back on its feet/starting it again is only open for a few years, about 2 or 3. It got cancelled because there weren’t enough people to work on it, and it cost too much to make an episode (I think one episode cost about 1.6 billion (probably million, can’t remember) to make, and that’s WAY too much for any show, no matter how big it is. Besides, even if they did bring it back, it wouldn’t get enough viewers to be worth it. Most people have forgotten about it by now. And I doubt any of the original creators/story writers would come back to give the show more story, if they’re even around anymore, so it would be left up to new people to give it more story, and usually when that happens, it goes a completely different direction than what it was supposed to go in. So I’d rather it stay where it is than get ruined by new story writers/creators
