"Iconic" TF Franchise Shows Off Footage at CinemaCon, Maybe Story Tidbit

Today at the annual CinemaCon in Las Vegas, fourteen minutes of Transformers: Age of Extinction footage was shown off. Sadly zero details really on what was shown. No surprise as the 'Con is thrown by the Hollywood studios to show off their potential summer hits for theater owners so the public is not invited. Still a tiny bit of information has been leaked.

While Michael Bay was in LA continuing post-production on TF4, Mark Wahlberg was very happy to upsell Transformers, calling it the "the most iconic franchise in movie history." (Who am I disagree with that assessment). He also once again said the movie is a standalone from the previous trilogy so newbies to the franchise should be welcome (there are still TF newbies?).

As for what was shown, sadly you will have to read the tea leaves as borderline useless. Variety saying that the footage included "the resurrection of several transformers and Stanley Tucci holding a serious grudge." Deadline provided no details but did write that "...the footage shown was extremely effective in convincing me Wahlberg may be right when he said this “will be the biggest film of 2014.” In fact, he modestly stated it will be bigger than the other three films “combined.”"

The last bit of info comes the notorious unreliable IMDB.com which tweeted "New concept in 'Transformers 4' footage: Optimus does battle with an "Avatron," which is a robot controlled by a human. #CinemaCon" I can't help but think they are talking about Strafe but who knows for sure. We already know there might be human built Transformers as part of the plot but the term "Avatron" is new. Feel free to speculate in the comics. Thanks to Mackie U. for the links.

    2. Yep, Galavatron and Stinger are both man made and they are both under control by Stanley Tucci's character whom's purpose is to hunt down the Autobots. I can also tell you people that, most of the Decepticons you will see are man made....in a god damn factory!!!!!!!!!!!!

    3. I get it, its what man does as a species, exploit everything, ungrateful for what has been given to us. but this ruins the classic decepticon vs autobot mantra. its now autobot vs human which is ghetto since they have saved them repeatedly in the other movies. think its a dumb move by MBay.

    4. But that's not the whole movie. The toylines indicate Galvatron and Stinger as Decepticons so they'll become sentient join forces with real Decepticons. And we already know that Lockdown is Cybertronian (and likely the Vehicons too).

    5. my guess is Megatron is rebuilt as Galvatron and is at first mindless but over time he regains his memories and probably is the one who corrupts Stinger.

  5. I'm sure there will be man-made Transformers, but I don't think all the decepticons will be man-made. Lockdown won't be and we see in the trailer ships coming from space.

  7. This only confirms what the rest of us already knew. What I would want to know is what the Dinobots in this film are (and I mean their life story and how they came into Earth).

    1. One more thing: when and how Hound, Drift and Crosshairs came into Earth?

  8. So the Decepticons are going to be powered by people. I actually don't have a problem with this concept.

I'm thinking it's almost a variation of the headmasters/powermasters concepts, but a little different. I don't know if the humans will have any kind of exo-suits like we think of when we're thinking headmasters or powermasters. I don't know if binary-bonding is involved. I could see it leading into the powermasters or headmasters concepts, though. I think that would be awesome.
