Transformers 4 Crosses $300M in China, Near $1 Billion

While Transformers: Age of Extinction continues to do only so-so in the States, its international box office remain strong as the film becomes the first film (domestic or foreign) to cross the $300 million mark in China with a current total of $301 million. At the end of this weekend the movie's estimated total is $236.3M in States and $730M international for a total of $966.3M. It should cross the threshold by the end of the week and probably match Dark of the Moon's $1.12 billion total. As for this weekend's stats, it was $4.6 in the US, and $37.5M overseas.

  1. Went to see TF4 last weekend, and I am sad to say that I have to agree with your review and I was also disappointed with a few things that happened in the movie. At least I did not go to watch it in 3D, thus I saved a couple of Euros, but I still have to say that this movie was the worst of the 4 and I could have just rent it on DVD when it comes out. The most disappointing thing in the film is, sorry to say, Optimus Prime.

    Spoilers ahead.

He is not the faithful, brave and noble Prime I love. In this movie, Prime is afraid, uncertain and revengeful, even killing the character played by Kelsey Grammar. This is something that the Prime I know will never do.

Besides the movie has no story what so ever and no explanation about the new characters, except Galvatron actually.

I am no saying that the entire movie is bad though, the CGI, the action and the cars are awesome, but they simply do not make up. I am sorry to say that the movie actually bored me, especially the first half.

This is just my opinion though, as I know people that do not agree with me, my brother being the first one.

    1. Well, Optimus killed Attinger to protect Cade. Isnt that something a real hero should do? I think all of this gave Prime more character, he had to struggle with more issues. He had more screentime as of all the other robots as well. This was better than any of the previous 3 movies! Isnt that what we want in this movies? More screentime for the robots and character development?

    2. I agree with more screen time for the robots. I do not agree with Prime killing Attinger to protect Cade as he could have fired just in front of him and throw him away from Cade but not killing him. The noble Prime I know would never killed or lost faith in humanity. A real hero as you call him does not kill people but ensures that justice is withheld.

    3. The movie has no story ? You clearly didn't pay attention. Maybe you were sleeping or you were high ?
Transformers4 is the best of the franchise so far. Transformers3 is the worst one.

    4. I can assure you that I was not high and that most people especially of my generation, who used to watch Transformers G1 and G2 when young, will agree with me. You must be clearly younger than me. I'm 36 btw.

For the story, can you tell me the story yourself? Can you tell me the Dinobots origins? Can you tell me why Optimus did not just leave with the seed? Can you tell me why a space bounty hunter with a huge spaceship would require the help of humans to track down and capture Optimus? What was the point of finding the Autobots or employing Mark Wahlberg for repairs if reformatting seems to fix everything? What happened to Sam, all the Nest Agents and Agent Simmons?

    5. @Charlo Zammit 7/28/2014 10:38 AM: either you are a little kid that never watched the G1 and G2 series or your brain got some serious issues...
You surely whine a lot like a little kid with some really silly questions, you clearly didn't pay attention to the movie.
And by the way the G1 and G2 episodes were far from perfect. Try re-watching those now and you will see plenty of plot issues. Which doesn't mean that they were bad but turning the original series into some sort of untouchable perfect myth it's just plain wrong. Those were pretty flawed.
Transformers4 has just some small glitches like all good and top-notch movies and even the best sci-fi books.
Anyway everything is crystal clear.. for anyone paying attention. If you paid attention you wouldn't have so many questions.

    6. Actually the moaner seems to be you. Trust me I am no little kid as I already told you my age if you read my comment properly, and I used to watch G1 and G2 when I was young and I know that they were far from perfect with many plot holes.

You seem to be the young kid where someone is either with you or against you and you cannot accept a critic from someone. What I just wrote was my opinion on the movie, which you are allowed to dislike as you wish but I assure you that I was wide awake throughout the whole movie and that I am not the only one stating the facts I wrote earlier. So please do yourself a favour, grow up and learn to understand that when someone criticizes something you don't like, just learn to accept their opinion instead of blurting out wrong facts about them.

Regarding your questions about the story:

Question 1: Can you tell me the Dinobots origins?
Answer: Lockdown actually explains this in the movie, He has been hunting down the ancients because the creators are displeased with their actions. (extra credit: Why do they transform into dinosaurs? They are massive, do you think they would transform into giant cars?? Hell, even the autobots make this comment.)

Question 2: Why doesn't Optimus just leave with the seed?
Answer: Because that wasn't the only obstacle, he had to protect the human companions and rebuild his team.

Question 3: Why does Lockdown need the help of the humans?
Answer: Because Lockdown can't simply just click a few buttons and get a pin-point location on Prime. Duh??

Question 4: What's the point of Wahlberg if reformatting fixes everything?
Answer: This is also explained in the movie. Optimus was badly injured, causing him to be locked in that state since he could not remove the foreign object. Because of that, Optimus was slowly losing energy and dying. Wahlberg removed this object and gave him a boost of energy to start the healing process.

Question 5: What happened to Sam, Agent Simmons, etc?
Answer: Who cares???? It was stated many times that this was a fresh start with a new threat. But, if you must ask, this was also briefly touched on in the movie. The quick explanation was that when the government started hunting the Autobots they split up and went into hiding, cutting all ties for their own protection and for the humans who were their friends.

Charlo, this movie did in fact have a story, one that has been much more coherent than the others. Your statement that there was no story is an obvious attempt to just bash the movie in the most harshest way possible. I get it. You didn't like the movie. OK, fine. But that doesn't mean the movie didn't have a story. From your questions above it just sounds like you didn't pay attention to these details. I'm sorry the characters didn't turn and look directly into the camera and explain the plot to you.

  2. Sorry for butting in to your discussion but Optimus had one good reason to go out of his usual character: the circumstances. Just imagine. He was betrayed by humans for who and with who he fought for the last few years. He was hunted and afraid. His autobots were in danger. Gravely wounded he had to hide and abbandon them for quite a long time. Helping out his comrades while in this state would be one suicidal mission. So he had to feel horrible that he have not only abbandoned his own men, he actually was powerless so it is understandable that he felt frustration. After his reawakening it took some time to convince him that humans can be more than just defensless worms for who he have to be careful not to stomp on. After all, from his perspective we must be just like ants, right? Anyway... Ratchet was not only his friend but also a MEDIC - not a warrior. Humans showed their former ally no mercy. More, they desecrated his remains. I totally understood his darker side finally showing - as it emerged I was happy to see it, since I always wanted to see Prime getting darker and Megatron swaying towards the brighter side - I even dream of Megatron taking charge of Autobots in Optimus' place and becoming a Prime just like he always dreamed of - that would be totaly unheard of, shocking AND interesting. I'm not saying TF4 is a good movie, but just like Mr. Yeager've said I can see what this movie could be and I have faith that when they will reach the point of no return in their messy plot during this 2nd trilogy they will make a reboot of the series and take Nolan's treatment as they've should after Revenge of the Fallen raped the title with no regards to what it means for those who've grown up with it. Unfortunately Hasbro is a strange company that decides to cut their budget on things that are actually good, like they killed off TF Animated and TF Prime. I remember Steve Blum taking about one producer of the show telling him that Starscream should die cause he does not like the character... well that is one logic killer if you ask me - killing off one of the most iconic and liked characters... yeah, why not? Let's kill Optimus, let's kill Megs, who'd care anyway...

    1. As for the story... it's a mess, no argue her, yet still one interesting mess - I see many ways the writer can answer your questions in a sequel or through the comic books and other media stretching the live action movie universe beyond that what we've got on the screen. In 2007 Bumblebee talked and I had no idea why suddenly his voice box was repaird - the dvd commentary cleared this one out as it was Ratchets healing beam of some sort... why the heck they never explained this on screen of why even was it not used during the movie time earlier? Beats me. I quest I'll wait for a new director, producer AND writer - why they took a Star Trek nerd to write about Transformers? Why they admitted in the interview that they don't really think about consistency? Cause they don't care and will not as long as the title brings money. It gives me a lot of pleasure to watch CGI robots - I treat it as a music video, great score by Jablonsky + CGI Transformers. If only the plot was better... Hasbro must realize that changing Michael Bay will bring even more viewers to the theater cause that what those who hate these movies want and that's something ppl watching it now doesn't care for. The thing that sells Transformers films are ROBOTS, not directors. I do not remember Bay directing War for Cybertron or it's sequel but were these games a financial downfall? Nope. Someone at Hasbro's HQ must realize it sooner or later. Now we will get a messy TF5 with Quintessons +/- Unicron. I am dying to see Metroplex, Trypticon, Grimlock from TF4 changing like TF Prime's Predaking - there's so much potential! I want Ultra Magnus and even Rodimus Prime. More one-on-one battles, more back-story for the Bots and Cons AND most of all we desperatly NEED an all-around-Cybertron film. I'd go see it no matter what. I understand ppl who hate Bayformers - I hate the first trilogy but after watching this 4th installment I've got my hopes rising cause I know this will not end on the 4th or 5th part of the series. This cow must be milked dry. When they will be out of ideas and Bay will get bored doing the same stuff over and over (remember he wanted to direct Pain and Gain so much that he argued with Hasbro bout the timing they wanted to make another TF sequel?) then and only then we will get a reboot. I'm glad that AOE will probably hit 1 bil mark just like DOTM (tho I hated it) cause this means that Hasbro will get more money to develope another TF-verse. Be it a TV show or a comic series, another novelization, etc. Let's face this fact. Embrace it and have fun with upcoming TF Robots in Disguise - it might be good. And if it's not? Once again we will face painful mental extinction :) Sorry for my poor english. With regards. - P.

    3. Can you precise why? I rarely hear that people want to watch a movie just cause it was made by XXX or YYY. Maybe this is different in the U.S.A. but not where I'm from. Here most people read the description and decide if the sotry is interesting enough to watch it, so please explain what do you mean.

    1. BOMojo states 966mil. so far. I have my doubts if AOE will climb above DOTM (mainly cause the U.S.A. audience lost their interest in the live movie series continuity). In 2 days it will launch in Switzerland. In August it will hit the screens of Japan, Spain and Venezuela. 1 bilion is reachable but I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit lower income from this part of the franchise. Less than DOTM has grossed. If it'll climb above it we might (just might) get a little more serious plot the next time Ehren Kruger will start writting for Hasbro. Bigger income may signalize that people want to see more robots and less human action + an enemy that brings fear to the viewer (tho producers stated that they do not understand why people liked Lockdown so much and in the end they just think it's the way "he walked"... -.-' damn it makes me think these people sound stupid and yet they are getting ritcher by the hour, hah). Everything that AOE had improved can be magnified in TF5 along with new flaws thanks to all big numbers standing behind it's status of succes - P.

  4. GOOD GRIEF!! Guess what!!! IT'S A MOVIE!!!. Yes I agree Bay should do better but the movie was fun and a blast. LockDown was freekin awesome, he brought lore and mythology and the CGI with LockDown was absolutely awesome the attention to body parts and detail was second to none, better than my favorite CGI Pacific Rim. I was not impressed with Hound, just pops up out of nowhere on a cliff in the desert, just stupid and he didn't even transform, just goofy old Bay. Liked the Highway seen, pretty dam good action set but too short lived. The fight with Galv's and Prime wasn;t that good, wasn't bad either. Wished I could have seen more instead of just a couple of shots of feet and that dumbass shaky camera that Bay just loves for some dumbass reason, drives me nuts. Primes upgrade was fine and I liked his new attitude, he had enough and its time for some good old fashion ass beating, I liked it. Absolutely hated the dumbass magnet, took to much time away from one on one death matches and transforming vehicles, could have spent more time on Galvatron and another run in with Prime instead. Bay always goes off into his child like world and just goes off the rails with some seens like that dumbass magnet. The action sets are good but do we really need a magnet. That's just me I personally hated the magnet. I would have much rather of seen a much longer fight with Galv's and Prime. To me it had its good points and bad points but its just a movie.

  5. Tfcollect: Perhaps Mr.Charlo you must've been asleep. Seems that you missed the part when Optimus after seeing footage of his fellow Autobots being killed he had said "Whoever is behind this, I'm going to kill him!" Yes Optimus is noble and compassionate however compassion and nobility wasn't being displayed when he had seen Ratchet body parts being melted. So you put yourself in that situation for a second and think how would your reaction be? So he kept on his word, he found out who was behind the Hunter kill missions caught in his crosshairs and did what he said he would. So go and see the movie again and stay awake, no brewskis before viewskis this time and pay attention.

    1. Believe me, I saw the part clearly an I did not fell asleep. That is another thing actually which Optimus could never have said. Optimus is noble and compassionate (quoting yourself). He favours justice and not revenge, he is kind, trusthworthy and hopeful and above all he protects humans. Quoting Optimus from the first movie "We cannot let humans pay for our mistakes". He does not believe in eye for an eye as most of you are saying here.

    2. Of course I have knowledge of Transformers. In fact, quoting from another source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimus_Prime
"Optimus Prime is a character from the Transformers franchise. Prime is the leader of the Autobots, a faction of transforming robots from the planet Cybertron. The Autobots are constantly waging war against a rival faction of transforming robots called Decepticons. He is depicted as a brave, powerful, wise and compassionate leader who puts his talent to use improving the universe around him. Optimus is portrayed as having a strong sense of justice and righteousness and has dedicated himself to the protection of all life, particularly the inhabitants of Earth."

      Another one: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Optimus_Prime_%28G1%29
"Optimus Prime is the awe-inspiring leader of the Autobot forces. Selfless and endlessly courageous, he is the complete opposite of his mortal enemy Megatron. Originally a mere civilian, he was chosen by the Matrix to command, the first in a number of heavy burdens he has been forced to bear. Another is his bringing of the Transformers' conflict to Earth. Every casualty, human or Cybertronian, weighs heavily on his spark. He does not show this side to his soldiers, and he never succumbs to despair."

Now that Bay and Bonaventura have made their Millions I say we start a petition for them to redo the movie using that money. With the combined input of this blog and tfw2005 we should be able to come up with the perfect movie version! They owe it to us. We could get over a million signatures world wide easy, Then Bay and Bonaventura and Paramount can distribute free movie passes once it is in theaters.. Then we cam get both blogs to do the entire TF5 the way the public wants it so no whiners next time!
We could do the same with Hasbro, like a whole wave of toy DECPTICONS from the movie. I mean we have names and you tube videos of the current developers (scramble city combiners) (G1 Paint dinobots) so it can't be that hard.

  7. Ok guys i agree the most but imagine that . we all must be happy because of the fact that TF4 will be the movie of the year plus every time transformers are even bigger than the last . Ehren Krueger ok i agree they must found another script story teller but overall the movie was very very good . this movie is already 730 millions worldwide and you must not be surprise if not only surpass DOTM that is not the main target but Iron-man 3 and eventually at the best of the occassions frozen to go again at top 5 !!! So i agree 50% with you but yes i want ehren krueger to move along for another script writer . I am a huge TF collector 1.142 TFS figures i am living in greece so i collect TFs from TFsource generally !!!!!!!! and i counted 28 more in one week so i will be very pleased to see Transformers again at top 5 or top 6 who knows . USA audiences will be very pleased to know that TF5 and 6 will be freaking amazing but as of yet TF4 is a very very good movie and much much better than Iron-man 3 that move to 1.25 billion . This movie sucks back then in 2013 and might not deserved to be there :) so peace :)

  8. 730 million without America earnings . DOTM made in 3 months 771 ? if i remember correctly so wait for over 850 million maybe over 900 this time around excluded USA gross !

  9. Did anyone else notice that Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks detached itself from the movie? Could be a sign Spielberg might jump ship? I know that sound ludicrous. I wish Spielberg would direct one instead of Executive Producing which basically means nothing. Bonaventura is clueless about the public and transformers he needs to go too.

  14. Tfcollect:it's funny how people blame Mike B. For the story. He doesn't write them. He directs let's get that clear. Doesn't matter who directs the film. You have the same writer with a different director you'll still have a bad story. A bad story is just that...a bad story. Mike B doesn't even sign off on the script, the studio heads sign off on them. If you really need to point fingers, pointed at the writer and the studio heads. Everyone complaining about the story, not much c o claiming about the the action sequence, camera angles etc. That's Bay, that what he's paid to do. And with being apologetic...it works. All 3 movies had a fantastic opening week take at the box office doesn't matter if you like it or not. Please find something else to do when the next installment hits the big screen so then those who love and respect what he's doing can acknowledge that and those who do not...we will at last hear no complaints. And lastly. Go and write script, get money from a studio, get a team and actors together, pay ILM and film your own Damn Transformers movie. Stop the bloodclot cryin'
