Transformers 3 in New York?

For the last few weeks, Transformers: Dark of the Moon has been filming in Los Angeles and now it seems that production may move to New York City, at least going by a possible casting call for the movie. From On Location Vacations:

Grant Wilfley Casting is seeking the following for background work on TRANSFORMERS 3: the Dark of the Moon:

* Arabic/Middle Eastern, South Asian/East Indian, and African men and women with traditional ethnic wardrobe for work on Nov. 12 or Nov. 13.

Email a recent picture and contact information to casting@gwcnyc.com. Write the role for which you are submitting in the subject line of your email. Filming the week of November 8 in NYC.

This is a different casting company then used for previous extra calls. Usual caveats about scams and the like with the biggest being any requests for money makes it a fraud. Maybe it is a quick pick-up scene but highly doubt it is a major sequence or they would have fit it into the schedule when moving all the Transformers vehicles, pyrotechnics and the like all over the country when filming during the summer. Gearing that up again would be very expensive making the standing NY set in LA a better alternative if a large scale action sequence was needed.

DoD Extras Casting Call for DC Shoot

The Department of Defense's Facebook page (trying to wrap my head around that), has posted a extras casting call for Transformers 3 when it films on the National Mall from Tuesday to Thursday. The call is to cast only 33 military extras, limited to DoD volunteers so civilians and non-employees are out of the running. On a related note, ARL Now reports that Transformers 3 will be filming at or around Air Force Memorial from 5:00pm to 10:00pm. The casting call from Seibertron.com:

Transformers 3 would like to have military extras for a big scene that's scheduled to be filmed in Washington, DC on the National Mall next week. The dates of the filming are from Tuesday, October 12, through Thursday, October 14. This is a night scene, so filming would be from 1830 to approximately 0630 the following morning. It's an important scene involving the U.S. military "NEST" team featured in the other Transformers pictures. It's always much better when actual military personnel portray military extras, rather than civilians.

TF3 In Florida Dates, Accepting Resumes

The Space Coast Film Commission hinted a few weeks ago that jobs would be available when Transformers 3 arrived in the area and they have now updated their website with a little bit more information about the shoot including planned dates and an email address to apply for jobs. (via TFW2005)

Transformers 3 will be filming on the Space Coast in late September. Dates can change but the dates planned are September 19-October 5, 2010. The production office is seeking the following positions:

Catering, Craft service, Medics, PAs, Electricians, Grips, Set Dressing, Extras

Florida's Space Coast Transformers 3 Extra's Casting Pre-Prep

Florida's Space Coast Attraction has posted a noticed that they will be looking for Transformers 3 extras and workers to help out while production in town sometime late September. Currently there is no means to actually apply; the notice is more of a heads-up that they will be looking for people soon. From the site:

Transformers 3 will be filming on the Space Coast in late September. A production office will be set up in early Sept and an email address will be given so you can send in your resumes. They are seeking the following positions:

catering, craft service, medics, PAs, electricians, grips, set dressing

Casting for extras will also take place. We are waiting for the Casting Director to give us the info needed for you. Please keep watch on this website for all updates. (updated 8-23-10)

Based on this and previous reports it seems the production order is Chicago, Detroit, DC, and then Florida. (via TFW2005)

Washington, DC Extras Casting Call

Washington, DC's The Office of Motion Picture and Television Development have posted a new extras casting call for Transformers 3 whenever production visits. No date was provided but I assume it will after production finishes in Detroit so maybe in September. Of note is the casting call asks if have a car and any "precision driving" experience. Transformers 3 Detroit Extras Casting Call

A new extras casting call notice for Transformers 3 has been posted on MichiganActing.com. The main bit of news is it seems the planned three week shoot in the city will start shortly after Chicago wraps up on August 19th. Exact date range and locations remains unknown. The notice is below or at the link. Usual buyer beware caveats apply. This is essentially a (low) paying job so if have to give money to get the job, it's a scam. (via Seibertron)

Transformers 3″ is currently casting male and female extras in the metro Detroit area. All ethnicities may apply. Extras will be needed for a shoot at the end of August. You must be 18 or older to apply.

Transformers 3 Extras Letter

Thanks to Seibertron.com, here is a look at the letter sent to applicants to be an extra for Transformers 3 while it films over the summer. It isn't confirmation that someone has been cast, just what is expected if get that call asking for participation in filming.

Essentially it comes down to don't a) don't expect to get paid much ($8.25 /hr), must be legal to work, return casting phone call quickly, and behave on set while making a minimal amount of noise. After all, you don't want to be the extra that was thrown off set like occurred with Revenge of the Fallen.

News Report from Milwaukee Transformers 3 Casting Call

This morning Transformers 3 held an extras casting call for Transformers 3 at the Hilton at the Milwaukee City Center. It was setup by TF3 casting director Maryellen Aviano who is looking for "trendy executives" when production comes to the city in July. As the below video from WISN, the call had a good turnout. A new ad has popped up on Chicago Craigslist that is advertising an extras casting call for Transformers 3 for June 4th and 5th. Transformers 3 Production Start Date, Casting Calls

New casting calls for Transformers 3 have provided the start date for production and small details about the movie. Principle photography for Transformers 3 is scheduled to run from May 1st (or 17th), 2010 to July 1st, 2010. So far seen both numbers for start date but same end date. The shooting locations are now listed as Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow and China. The casting calls found on Chicago Craigslist (thanks to Tyler for link) and Acting Auditions are showing a search for extras and principle actors (speaking lines).

For Chicago, "Joan Philo Casting (A Nightmare on Elm St., The Dark Knight) is searching for Ukrainian/Eastern European (looking) men (20 to 60 years of age) to work as paid extras on a feature film in April. This will be a one-day shoot. ...Especially looking for Ukrainian (Or Ukrainian looking types) men 6' to 6'3", clothing size 42 regular to 50 regular who know how to handle a gun. If you have a bigger build and are of a larger size – we love this!" Maybe something involving soldiers is going to occur in a Ukraine town.

The extras call in Los Angeles is seeking "Men, 66+, ethnically ambiguous, weathered, tattered, frail, featured roles." This sounds like a polite description of a bum. As for the principle actors, no specifics on what they are looking for is provided, just an address to send photo and resume to DW Studio Productions, LLC.

To summarize, casting for Transformers 3 is in full swing. Pre-shoots start next week or so in Chicago and Gary, Indiana. Principle photography starts in May. Some scenes possibly involve Ukrainian soldiers, Ukrainian townspeople, and maybe bums.

Transformers 3 Extras Casting via Craiglist? (Updated)

Update: It appears the Craigslist ads are not real, at least not affiliated with Dreamworks or Transformers 3. Prompted by user in comments, I called the number and reached an operator who read from a script, tried to get contact information and directed me to sign up to ActorsOnSet.com website for a "one time fee" of $98.90. If you have to pay someone to find you a job while they are supposedly getting paid to fill jobs, that strikes like the classic definition of a scam. Rather then pull the post or the ad below, leaving it up in case people Google the phone number and can get additional information they need to decide for themselves on what to do.

If going by the listings on LA Craigslist, it appears that Transformers 3 production has begun to look for extras for filming. No date is specified on when filming may begin. Extras are those people you see walking and talking in the background of scenes that are seen but rarely ever heard.

I do not know anything about how extra casting works so no idea if using Craigslist is the norm or not. A quick Google on the provided phone number doesn't provide any clues on legitimacy one way or the other. If you are in the LA area and curious I just recommend caution. Remember the goal is to hire and pay you for your time so if they ask for money it is probably a scam.

Transformers 3 Casting Begun?

From Siebertron.com there are indications that Transformers 3 may have begun the casting process or at least the costume department is in full swing. This is based on two emails the site received looking for "athletic military guys who are around 6'-6'' & 185-200lbs & ages 18-35. ...The work will basically be still photos in wardrobe for director review." The second email also indicated costumes are being constructed for "Iranian military guys". As far as story beats, not much to go on as a military element is no surprise but it does sound like the Transformers might once again visit the Middle East as they did for the first two films.
