Movie Clip: Megatron Speaks

Thanks to the ever diligent Tigerclaw, there is footage on YouTube of Megatron (Hugo Weaving) speaking. Its a clip that aired during Shia LaBeouf's interview on the Late Show with David Letterman on Friday night. Its good footage but I have a feeling the voice will be an issue for many Transfans. I can't even tell its Hugo Weaving doing the voice which either is kudos for him or the sound mixers, not sure which.

  1. Regardless of what he sounds like, Megatron has an animosity fot everything. You expect his voice to be wicked, deep, and evil. But either way I think its way cool how Megatron is!!! OMG, so excited

  3. I think my heart just stopped! Who the hell cares if he was "gigged" up with "techno-speak". He still has to "deliver" the lines. The articulation of his jaw and the rest of his face...Oh, man! I can only imagine what would Welker have sounded like with the mixing? Weaving is a worthy successor to Welker.

  7. The only voice that really threw me off was Ironhide's. It almost sounded like he had some sort of British accent. It is by far the most unsettling difference between the movie and the original cartoons, voice-wise.

  8. Sorry, but the dialog is already making me cringe. Im sorry, but they had kick ass huge robots to deal with, a few big name actors, and a huge legacy to live up to. And i can already tell that Bay has went the route of George Lucas in the star wars prequels. Screw the dialog and meaning, as long as we drown everyone in cool effects, they wont be bothered by it. But for people who have grown up loving the idea of these characters and always thinking, GOD if they could just pull that off on screen...and I don't think Bay has done it.

Sure, it's going to be alot of summer fun, huge explosions, massive shapeshifting robots, whats not to love? But what bothers me is they had a chance to make a timeless classic, but instead just blew up a bunch of stuff and smacked the transformers franchise on everthing from pepsi to toasters.

I hope to enjoy the movie and I hope it does well. It's just I know I will walk out of there and be thinking, i wonder if anyone will get it right in our lifetime?

  11. Things change, people. I've read where plenty of the original va's mention the "cheese factor" in describing the dialog in the cartoon. While the first movie and the third season did contain more "darker" elements in story and dialog, the first two seasons were all about "camp". It wasn't "Shakespere" (sorry about not using spell-checker, but you get the idea).

Go in with an open mind, and heart. And enjoy it, dammit!

  13. You know the people stamping their feet and still kicking the same dead horse:

'Bay ruined it, the new designs are horrible, this will be horrible based on the fact that it simply has to' - because they didn't want to spend $150,000,000 on a movie about VW Bugs and Minivans.

It's a stupid person's argument. And it garners more stupid people to it's cause. And I'm still really impressed by how many people believe in their heart that they should kept Ironhide and Ratchet as Dodge Caravans or Ford Aerostars. That would put butts in the seats.

  15. My bet is that when the DVD release comes out it will be an "Allspark Edition" special 2-disk release...The first disk containing the original theatrical release of the film with half the extra or "bonus" features with the second disk containing the remaining special features as well as a possible re-edit of the film with Frank Welker coming into the studio to re-voice Megatron making THAT version of the film just for the true "Transfans."

  17. I was one of the worst "offenders" about keeping things "the same". Someone I read a few months back, from the original cast, mentioned this and said that, although he's not impressed with Bay, even he's going in with an open mind. It's Transformers after all. (Hint: The whole movie is all about "transforming robots". They just "transformed" some of the story elements and the 'bots themselves.)
