San Diego Comic-Con News

TFormers.com has posted a concise list of the information released about the upcoming toy, cartoon, and comic future for the next year. Click here to read it.

The summarize it even further:

Upcoming Comics
- Devastion storyarc, Spotlight books on Optimus Prime, Galvatron, and Ramjet.
- Beast Wars gets a new mini with The Ascending and Sourcebook.
- Live action movie comics that take place after the end of the movie.
- Tranformers Animated planned
- Target exclusive comic will be included with the DVD

Toys
- "Allspark Power", part of the movie line that consists of what seems to be 50% new designs and 50% repaints (sadly common from Hasbro nowadays). A gallery can be seen here of some of the line.
- Robot Heroes (basically action figures) expanded to include G1 and Beast Wars
- Classics line starts again in fall 2008 with 8 deluxe figures and 3-4 ultras.
- Transformers Animated toys planned that matches cartoon look

Transformers Animated
- New TF cartoon for Cartoon Network. Can see a clip here. Personally not interested as just continuation of the anime "Teen Titans" look with storytelling style for 10 year olds. In other words great for their target audience just not me.

  1. I really got into the new TF Animated clip. Sorry you didn't. (Too bad more Megs wasn't shown. Can't wait until Shockie shows up...)

  2. The new Transformers animated looks so awesome! Tom Kenny is defiantly a superb choice for starscream! Also interesting how they put blackarachnia in it as well. This show may only be aimed for 10 year olds but since I'm a kid at heart, I know I'll be watching it! ^^

  3. this new version takes some getting used to, but i like the fluidity of the transformations, and the new theme song seems not bad... the voices... especially starscream was good! too bad bout the title, "animated" lol

  4. Transformers Animated? WTF!?! I dont like the idea much. I mean how does a light mini-van "military" APC Transformer be WAY larger than Optimus Prime who is once more a Firetruck? I know Transformers had a little no logic like In the 1980*s Movie when Devestator Transformered inside a small space shuttle, But TRansfoermers Animated kills that logic.

  5. Transformers Animated?

And all this time we've been looking at stills? Okay. Whatever.

This show it a reaction to a failure of the movie to reach younger age groups. However they would have done better to air the original series. It would be completely new to this generation, tie in with the movie, have a better look, and better stories.

    Total complete knee-jerk.

Hasbro as lost it. First they sit on the Transformers for year and years and years, and when they do tap into it's popularity it's like a flood of stupid and we can't shut it off.

This would seem to be the classic company that had something and didn't understand it. Transformers were popular, but they do not have clue #1 as to why, thus they just shoot in all directions. It's like watching Dick Chenney hunting.

Transformers needs to be handled like Star Trek, with the advantage of learning from Star Trek's errors(the advantage of hindsight). They should respect what the fan know and would like. Honor the history of the characters. We all enjoyed the original shows, why not build on that rather than dismissing it. Since we grew up with it and took much of our values from these heroic characters, when you dismiss them you dismiss us.

But, I'm sure with the Ticket sales from the latest film that the current leadership at Hasbro can do no harm. Expect them to go all out in this area. Assume they will do whatever they can. You're just lucky they didn't have people dressed up in fuzzy Transformers outfits with TV's in their bellies as the next 3-8 year old show.

What could have been a classic set of Characters, and a wonderful universe, has now been dragged down to the level of a 60's camp Batman movie. It's as pathetic as Lord of The Rings On Ice, The Musical. But, as posters often say here "You should be glad they made as Transformers movie at all." I guess I should be, but I'm not yet that totally starved for Transformers, nor as am I that stupid yet.
