Tuesday Box Office Total: $27.4 million

First full day for Transformers was gigantic with a total of $27.4 million made in its first full day on 4,011 screens according to Variety. This brings its two day total to $36.2 million. By comparison, Ratatoutille made $7.9 and Die Hard 4 made $4.5 million yesterday. Also of notes is it appears that the viewers are 60% male and 40% female, a discrepancy that I assumed would be much larger.

This is why the US sales is what drives the Hollywood movie machine. Because us Americans drop big bucks in theatres. We nearly spent more on Transformers in one day then all 10 countries that currently have the movie did over the last 4 days combined. Not sure why though. Its been one of those head scratchers for me. My best guess is simply lack of screens, not necessarily lack of interest. In the US a movie can play on 4000 plus screens, while it appears in most countries the average is closer to a couple hundred.

On yesterday's post I said the movie would make $24 million for Tuesday so I was actually pretty darn close. Off by "only" $3.4 million. Industry estimates weekend long take will cross $125 million. I am sticking with the $118 number. So total for the 4th of July is $17 million.

  2. and deservedly so!!

spider-man 3 was actually one of the worst films i have seen!

spidey 1 was ok; its just gone down hill from there!!.

the shrek franchise has almost done the same (3 was poor) but IMO #2 has been the best.

i think we are pretty much assured of a TF franchise (thank the lord)... i just hope it doesnt follow the same route as other 3 part franchises (IMO pirates #1 was the best) and LOTR.... all three were pants!!

hopefully gonna see this movie tomorrow... WHAT A BIRTHDAY PRESENT!!!!!!!! would be the best birthday ever!! (apart from havin maria sharapova sittin' on ur face!!)

  5. just seen it... never been happier!!!!!

people at ILM deserve to live tax free for the rest of their lives!!

this film needs to be seen about 5 times just so that you can see what is going on on screen! there is so much detail involved in each scene and its moving that bloody quickly that you dont have chance to take it all in!!

i bet each fight scene would be even better in slow motion when you can actually see what's going on!

i agree with the comment bout barricade not appearing in the final scene, it shows him driving on the highway with bonecrusher (before prime fight) so bumblebee cant have killed him, so why doesn't he appear in the final fight?? frenzy gets a lot of screen time, and surprised at amount of megatron screen time.

typical starscream... fleeing and avoiding the crunch of the fight! notice him perching atop the building opposite sam and megatron.

thought barricade's voice would have been better if sounded more like insecticon; he sounded very similar (too similar!!) to jazz (who lasted longer than i thought). didn't really believe his voice as a bad guy.

    stil... THE BEST FILM EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

roll on parts 2 and 3 and 4 and 5, etc... may it never end!!!

p.s: wonder if prime n co, etc... will get new designs for any sequel(s); oh, and ironhide shouldn;t have been english! should have been more of a texas hard-ass cowboy!!

  6. i liked the way they incorporated the mars 2 beagle rover footage into the film... thought it worked very well.

i accept bumblebee communicating thru radio... but can anyone explain his sudden change in form at the very end of the film??

(tried my best not to give any spoilers away there)

    kudos mr. bay!!

love the way bumblebee calls out the other autobots!!

  9. so... who in the end did agent 'X' turn out to be? was it prime in the end or did all that particular hypa kinda fizzle away??

obviously the sector7 website was just a fan thing and not involved with the movie... at least it kept us all entertained for quite a while... a very good side story tho.

will it all be repeated when the sequel(s) are produced?

    i love this film!

  10. possible spoiler. bumble bee changed at the end and was able to talk cause he touched the all spark. remember, frenzy touched it too and got his body back.

  11. ah rite, of course, cheers jake. so we can expect BB to be fully mobile re: transformers 2, i.e. legs n' all!

but how the hell did BB manage to shrink that HUGE!!!!! cube down into one that fitted into sam's hands?! and why couldn't he sp£@k from then on?

when did frenzy touch it? he reminded me very much of a bigger gizmo runnin about all the time... his 'voice' didn't sound very cybertronian to me.

sequel wise... it seems it shall be earth based again... considering the lack of allspark and prime's 'final thought' re: follow autobots.

he didn't say the line: "autobots: transform and roll out" :0(

  13. Raving of the movie - which it wholly deserves - aside, why is it so difficult to fathom the idea that women can get hooked into something as awesome as Transformers too? I know tons of female Transfans, of all ages. I happen to be one. I'm a 32-year-old mother of four, who's been a Transformers fan for as long as any fanboy out there, straight out of '84.

I was actually kind of irritated when Bay (Primus, I love the man for doing what he did with the TF movie, don't get me wrong) remarked a while back that the film had something for everyone, and then went on to say that for the guys, there's the big robots, the action, and Megan, and for the girls there's hot guys. WTF? Screw the testosterone in the movie, I went to see it for the big badass shiny all over the screen! Hell yes!

Next time you go to BotCon or Transformers Con... I mean seriously. Do you really think the ladies are just there to be with their boyfriends? No! We're there because we love Transformers! We are there to see the voice actors and the artists and the story writers. We are there to spend our money to keep that big Cybertronian phenomenon spinning right along with the rest of you guys. We are there because Tranformers are effin' awesome!

There is a huge merchandising market that's being overlooked, because there's nothing geared toward women. But, I bet you, if it was out there - clothing, accesories, handbags, lingerie (why not?) - we'd be buying that right along with the toys and the comics and the dvds, etc. Just think of what kind of a budget Bay would end up with for the sequels if he had that kind of revenue backing him up? ;)

So, you know... just to let you all know, female Transfans aren't a myth. We do exist.
