Next Cartoon Called Transformers: Prime?

Long time character actor extraordinaire Jeffrey Combs may have accidently revealed prematurely the name of Hasbro's next cartoon for Transformers that will likely make its debut on the new Discovery Kids channel that is launching this fall. On his official blog:

TRANSFORMERS: PRIME

Debuting later this fall Hasbro in conjunction with Discovery Communications Inc will release a new Transformers cartoon on a new TV channel currently called Discovery Kids called Transformers: Prime.

Jeffrey will be the voice of Ratchet, a very well known character in the Transformers world. There are 26 episodes scheduled for the first season. Exact details of the show are currently unavailable but will be posted here as soon as they are made available.

Jeffrey is quite thrilled with the opportunity to be cast in the role of Ratchet. He's not able to talk too much about the show this early in the production but did have this quote: "What I can say is that it is an honor and a privilege to be a part of such a prestigious project."
The cartoon has been rumored for a while now so really this posts seems to confirm two things, one the title and two the casting of Combs as the voice of Ratchet. For those that don't know, Jeffrey Combs is the man if a fan of 80s horror films, sci-fi TV and just goofy characters. He played the Dr. West in the Re-Animator films, multiple alien characters for the Star Trek television shows (Weyoun on DS9, Shran for Enterprise, and more), voiced the Scarecrow for Batman: The Animated Series, The Question for Justice League Unlimited, Dr. Burkhoff on The 4400 and much more. This is one of the few bits of TF related casting news over the years that has a real geek grin on my face.

Welcome Mr. Combs to the wild world of Transformers and Transfandom. (image source)

  1. A Discovery Channel kids show about TRANSFORMERS? Okay.

But Combs is a talented voice actor, no doubt about it. He acted with Robert Foxworth (TFilm Ratchet) in JUSTICE LEAGUE, and having heard his voice in that show and BATMAN, he'd be great in a less serious show about giant robots.

All the best to TRANSFORMERS PRIME! May it reach the epic heights of G1 or BEAST WARS!

  2. Just the thought of Dr. Burkhoff being Ratchet is making me giggle immensely xD Can't wait to see it just for that. Though Discovery is a little bit of weird choice of networks :X

  5. Transformers Prime isn't all it could be, the fact that the robots work around the annoying kids is just stupid. Tonights show it has the older boy gets grounded and expects RC to stay in the garage for two weeks so he don't get in any more trouble. The ma gave her serious face and if RC's not in the garage when the ma gets home Jack told her his ma's gonna make him sell her for parts. Now where in the world would this even be remotely believable? The kids have gotta go, they are just an annoying screw up on the writers part, the asian girl gets in the way all the time trying to take photos of the bots w/a cell phone. The little nerd boy needs a hair cut and is just annoying in his own whinny way and how come he's the only one that can understand Bumble Bee? Jack, he's a follower and thats something that shouldn't be taught to kids. Then him being in control of a bot like that, no way. PLEASE write the kids out of the story, have them move or die would be the best, top ratings their. I used to record on DVR like allot of my friends of the older generation that still like some cartoons but no more, just can't get threw one episode w/out yelling at the t.v. and wonder what y'all where thinking.

  6. P.s. I've written another blog about how stupid the show is and it seems the creator disagrees w/me and won't post it. I think thats just as sad as the show, so if anyone does read these besides myself and the editor or whatever the dudes called that reads and approves these, email me or write a comment of your own, I'd love to hear others opinions.
Thanks and recommend shows that shouldn't be missed in my life.
