Transformers 3 Director Michael Bay has decided that Sam Witwicky needs a new love interest. Megan Fox is out but who is her replacement? We can pretend the bar is high but really the only requirement seems to be super model looks, at least going by the list of names being proposed. The front runner is rumored to be Gemma Arterton but other names have popped up according to a few websites. The actress links below go to their IMDB profile so can see what they look like and previous roles.Ain't It Cool News has learned from "highly trustworthy sources" that other names in the ring include Emmanuelle Chriqui (Entourage), Jessica Lowndes (90210), Zoe Saldana (Avatar), Hayden Penetierre (Heroes), Camilla Belle (10000 BC), Ashley Green (Twilight Saga), Amber Heard (Zombieland), Julianna Hough (Dancing with the Stars), Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical), and Rosie Huntington-Whitely (model).
The Wrap has also added their own names to the list of Fox replacements, most of which are fashion models including Bar Rafaeli, Miranda Kerr, Brooklyn Decker. I get the feeling the naming of fashion models is due to Michael Bay's long standing history of directing Victoria's Secret commercials.
HitFlix has already compiled their own top 10 wish list of candidates, not based on any sources. Some from above and a few news one including Carey Mulligan (Shia's current girlfriend), Rihanna, Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), Dianna Agron (Glee), Katie Cassidy, and Freida Pinto.
While I recognize that Sam Witwicky's love life is a large part of fantasy wish fulfillment, I wouldn't mind if they choose a more realistic love interest for Shia's character other then super models. Actually acting ability and experience would also be nice as could help expand the depth of the movie's story. A few of the names I like are Nina Dobrev, Dianna Agron, Hayden Penetierre and Katie Cassidy.
In the spirit of Michael Bay's desire to create stars, here is my own top 10 list based on relative age to Shia LaBeouf, looks and actual acting experience: Nina Dobrev, Olivia Munn (Attack of the Show), Rachelle Lafevre (Twilight), Alice Greczyn (Privileged), Ellen Woglom (Californication), Laura Ramsey (The Ruins), Peyton List (Flash Forward), Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck), Viva Blanca (Spartacus) and Allison Mack (Smallville).
Time is short, production has started so I wouldn't be surprised if something is announced by the end of the month if not sooner.
Out of your suggestions, I prefer Allison Mack, she's blond like Carly and she's very sexy, in my opinion. She's also a good actress. I wouldn't mind Gemma Arterton though.

ReplyDeleteThe majority of viewers worldwide are not going to forget Mikaela Banes. Killing the character off is not a good option unless the actress played the role for at least half the movie to make sense. Recasting the role with a new actress would be the worst thing to do. And replacing the character with a new love interest for Sam is going to look just dumb and it won't work.
ReplyDeleteThe only way to really fix things up is for Spielberg and Bay to reconsider their decision, pay Megan Fox more and just film Transformers3 without adding production issues anymore.

ReplyDeleteIf you want to compare to other trilogies then you should think Pirates Of The Carribbean, Star Wars, Matrix to name a few.
The first two have been a huge success for their whole trilogy. If the production ever fired/replaced/recasted the main female actress with another character/actress for the 3rd movie it wouldn't have worked at all, the trilogy would have been broken, people wouldn't have liked Natalie Portman to be replaced on Star Wars for the 3rd movie for sure.
I, for one, hated Megan Fox. She wasn't believable, their relationship wasn't believable in the slightest (who said "soulmates"??), and I don't actually think she's that attractive (I think it's the face).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I think it'd work fine if they tweak Sam's emotional journey to start the movie wallowing in his loss of Mikaela, and spends the movie thinking she can't be replaced while there's another hot girl waiting under his nose the whole time. Seeing as they've already started filming, that might be hard to rewrite, but it's definitely doable and I like that character dev more than either of the other two movies (yes, I recognize the irony of mentioning Character Development in a Transformers blog).
But really, in the end, it's just a skeleton to hold things together. My priority is watching parts move as cars turn into robots; I'd also like some time to hang out with Ironhide and Rachet, who got shafted last round.
there are reports that Olivia Munn is also considered to replace Megan!! I hope this is true!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that Megan didn't offer much to the movie's as far as acting skill, she did the whole eye candy thing and seemed to have chemistry with Shia as the characters they played.
ReplyDeleteYes sometimes changing a relatively important actor or actress can work ok but the feel of the movie is totally different and that can turn off fans just as much as the actual actor or actress change does.

ReplyDeleteWhat is really going on it's unknown... speculations imply that Megan Fox might have quit because she is pregnant and so unable to shoot action scenes.. but there have been quite some actresses that shoot action scenes even if they were pregnant on both tv shows and movies... so what is really going on it's still unknown.
What is for sure is that if Megan Fox is really out of the Transformers franchise and a major script rewriting is being done or if recasting for the Mikaela Banes character role or a new actress to play a love interest for Sam is what is going to happen then Transformers3 would be broken and deeply flawed from the start both plot and characters wise.

So, what is going to happen to Transformers3 if Megan Fox got fired, quit on her free will because of being pregnant or whatever else?
Financing won't be lost but greelight status might still be and production could then stop there?
If Megan Fox is pregnant and can't shoot action scenes, the best option would be to postpone the movie by one year.. release it as Michael Bay wanted on Summer 2012 and that's it. They can film missing scenes in a second phase when Megan Fox would be able to without any need for insane recasting, plot changes, new love interests for Sam, Mikaela death and so bad script rewriting.
I put my vote in for Hayden Penetierre. She is an experienced actress, she was one of the better characters on Heroes and she not just all T&A like Megan was. So long Megan it was fun while it lasted but now we need a real actress.

ReplyDeleteAny of those options applies to Transformers3 and plot and characters will be broken deeply, the movie would be flawed at its core and the two previous movies would just feel void, a silly joke and a nonsense characters and plot wise as well as the connection to the original G1 source material about key human characters would be lost forever.
I think you guys are being over-dramatic. I can care less if Fox isn't in the movie....never cared for her character anyway. All that matters to me is that they don't have another actress play Mikaela.....just bring in a new character. I hate it when they replace characters with new actors. It's not like this movie is based off a book and HAS to keep Mikaela as a character. Maybe they'll write it where Mikaela is sick of the fighting and Sam almost dying and decides she doesn't want to go through that again, so she breaks up with him to save future heartache.
