Bay Denies 3D Problems, Dates Trailer

Michael Bay has once again popped up on his forums denying the recent report that his 3D footage for Transformers: Dark of the Moon was unusable. On top of that, he reports that "the Transformers announcement piece", aka the teaser trailer will premiere with The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (December 10th) and Tron: Legacy (December 17th).
Wow, I read these morons on the internet who think they are in the know. "We have problems with our 3D????” Really? Come into my edit room and I will show you beautiful 3D. There has never been a live action show that has pushed the boundaries of 3D like Transformers 3. We shot the entire movie with 3D cameras. I actually loved shooting in 3D.

I will give full details of my process and why I liked 3D in the next week right before the Transformers announcement piece comes out on Tron and Narnia.

And don't watch this movie in 2D, we made it for 3D.

Michael
The forum specific links are here and here. While some may claim he is lying, in this case I don't see any reason to. As said before, they had a 3D viewing rig on location at all times that easily allowed them to catch any problems with the footage. Also don't forget that Bay had a 10 minute or so edit of the footage put together for the cast and crew early in filming; another chance to find any problems and make corrections. It doesn't make much sense that Bay and his 3D consultants (many from the Avatar crew) would not have discovered any problems until now. Mini-controversy over with the most important piece of this whole thing being we are about two weeks away of getting our first look at Transformers 3. Thanks to everyone for the heads-up.

  7. While i'm very excited for the trailer news...its a teaser...don't think we'll get to see much other then words, sounds, music and the logo. The real juicy goodness probably won't come till SB time.

  8. FUCK YEEEEAAAHHHHHH, im going to pay full price for Voyage of the dawn treader, just to watch the trailer for Dark of the Moon, but i think ill enjoy voyage of the dawn treader while im there since i loved the end fight scene in the lion the witch and the wardrobe

and on the subject of the 3D, i beleive Michael Bay 100% on it being the best 3D, because they could see it live while they were filming and they had the best people for the job and Michael Bay has a lot of pride at stake after everyone talked about how good the effects and 3D were in avatar and ROTF didnt even get nominated (not that it deserved a nomination, shit looked worse then transformers 1)

So yeah Transformers 3 will rape every film in terms of special effects and 3D, and will win the oscars for best effects, best sound editing, best soundmixing, and it should get at least nominated for best score, it they make a whole new one thats still as good as the scores from the first 2 films

  10. When did IESB.net become a reliable source anyway?
I love it when these 2nd rate entertainment "news" sites post stories critical of a big-name hollywood film production...stories that contain info allegedly recieved from an "insider". Why is it that almost all of these stories turn out to be total bullshit yet the sites stay in business? These sites stay in business because there are fans so desperate to hear any bit of news that they'll believe anything, regardless of the validity or reputation of the source.
Think I'm wrong? Remember all of the BS we heard and read about the 1st two movies...99% of it was proven false when the movies were released.
Yeah, I can't wait to see some DOTM footage but I too doubt this "announcement piece" will show any.

    ReplyDelete
  11. @Ray: unless the firing of Megan Fox, the lack of IMAX, the extra that almost got killed and was severely injured along could be proven false then the 40minutes+ of unusable 3D footage looking awful it's highly likely to be the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  12. a teaser will come out with TRON LEGACY or NARNIA... and this is true cause M.BAY just comfirm it :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. To Anonymous @ 8:19pm...Were Fox's departing the show, no IMAX scenes for DOTM or the injured extra bits of insider info reported to a 2nd rate website by an unnamed source? No, those issues were all reported by reputable sources and ultimately proven to be fact, not IESB.net exclusive stories.
Capone from AICN visited the Chicago set and reported about how good the 3-D looked on a short sizzle reel he saw...http://www.aintitcool.com/node/46274.
As he hated ROTF and is no great fan of Bay's I would consider him an objective observer but ultimately we the fans will decide next July how good the 3-D of Transformers:Dark of the Moon is.

  14. Found something interesting...very few movies have been filmed using the Pace Fusion 3-D camera system... Aliens of the Deep, Ghosts of the Abyss and Avatar all of which were directed by James Cameron. Non-Cameron directed films to use these cameras include Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D, Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008), Resident Evil: Afterlife and Tron Legacy.
I'm no big fan of 3-D but I think in Bay's hands it will be incredible.

  15. Narnia opens on December 9th here in the Philippines, so with the time difference... 11 days to go! I'm dying to see even just a TF3 teaser trailer - this is coming from someone who watched grainy YouTube videos of filming for months!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Box office earnings for Dawn Treader should double (at the very least) with the release of the TF3 teaser trailer alongside it! People who think themselves too old for talking mice and lions will shell out some cash for a glimpse of what Bay & Co.'s got up their sleeves!

    ReplyDelete
  17. 10:40 PM - Knowing Bay's penchant for taking things down to the wire, you're not going to see the teaser in the Philippines with Narnia. Wait for Tron.

10:43 PM - Those that are "too old for talking mice and lions" will wait for Tron, also.

Interesting the complete 180 Bay has taken on 3D technology seeing he didn't want to do it in the first place calling it a silly gimmick (which it is). Current 3D technology is not 3D. Being an artist myself, sculpture is true three-dimensional art, so holographic projections that you can walk around would be the equivalent.

  18. @"When did IESB.net become a reliable source anyway?"

When? When they confirmed the news that Joss Whedon would direct The Avengers when everyone thought it was a bad rumor. When they confirmed that Disney was trying to get a hold of X-men and Spider-man rights (NEVER gonna happen BTW). They were the first to reveal the rating of Star Wars Episode 3, the news that Lucas was milking the franchise even more with a live-action tv show. IESB has been a VERY reliable source of info.

Bay on the other hand has already lied about this film when he said the Twins weren't back (who were spotted on set that very same day), then lied about the amount of comedy in the film, but was then confirmed by the producer to have MORE comedy than the last. Bay is notorious for lying about his films, and I'll take IESB's over his ANY day.

  19. @"Remember all of the BS we heard and read about the 1st two movies...99% of it was proven false when the movies were released."

It's funny that you say that b/c all the false info I read came from those attached to the film. I read long before the movie came out that Megatron was confirmed to return in Transformers 2 from of those "2nd rate entertainment sites". Bay INTENTIALLY leaked false information, and those mostly came from Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

IMO, he's just trying to cover it up b/c the film already has a LOT of behind-the-scenes problems, and many have been put off by Transformers 3 b/c of the previous film. Bay is just trying to save face. Is that true? I don't know, it's just my opinion. I really hope it's not b/c unlike many I love watching films in 3D, and a 3D Transformers is gonna be SWEET. So, I hope he's right.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why do you guys need a teaser or a trailer if we see all the pictures, videos, spoilers etc?
I think I see all the movie already

    ReplyDelete
  21. when is the TF3 trailer coming out actually?

    ReplyDelete
  22. If the 3D was unusable, they would have just said it, they admitted Megan Fox was fired, they admitted that there was no IMAX scenes, they admitted they caused injury to an extra, but they say that the 3D is perfect, why? because it is.

False information is only to do with the story of the film

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah the twins and the humor was only to do with the story of the film, not about the technical stuff,

    ReplyDelete
  24. ok i have a theory here it goes if u guys member in the beginning of the year there was a rumor that megan fox character was gonna be killed and we saw megan on the first few day of the filming what if it is true what if her character actually dies in the beginning of the movie

    ReplyDelete
  25. @"Yeah the twins and the humor was only to do with the story of the film, not about the technical stuff,"

That's beside the point. The point is Bay lies about his own films, and can't be used as a source of information b/c of that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @"they would have just said it, they admitted Megan Fox was fired, they admitted that there was no IMAX scenes, they admitted they caused injury to an extra,"

You do know that Fox being "fired" was only THIER story, right? And we'll never know the truth behind that. People are already skeptical about 3D, and do you really think Paramount (or Bay) would admit it was horrible? HELL NO. Of course, they're gonna make them look good.

They couldn't deny the extra's injury b/c that all over the news. It would be as stupid as Bush claiming he was misinformed about WMD when everyone knew he was just lying.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The 3D is gonna be perfect just shut the fuck up already, they filmed it all in 3D, they could watch the filmed footage live on the big tv's they had on set, and just like Transformers raised the bar on CGI, DOTM is going to raise the bar for 3D

    ROTF still sucks dick though

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi,
3D is a gimmick like Bay said in the past. The trailer will be weird: 3D in the cinema and how on the internet? I really need to find those cheap 3D glasses that come with the dvd's these days.

    lol

    Als the trailer will be:

A scary looking Witwicky. A cemetary with Mikaela being buried. Then closed with a graffity of "Autobots Go Home". Then the title appears above the graffity: Transformers: Dark of the Moon. July 2011.

    Done.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Anonymous 11/28/2010 11:39 PM: if they had scenes of Mikaela funeral and that would be the reason why Sam Witwicky is heartbroken then the movie could be pretty good BUT it's highly likely that they are just going to ruin the whole trilogy with the nonsense silly writing of "Sam and Mikaela broke up" over some telenovelas style reasons that just won't make any sense and will look pathetic after the first two movies, actually sinking characters development and continuity making a fool of the general public that loved the first two movies and paid to watch them in theaters first and DVD/Blu-Ray after.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Regardless of his 3D Footage being crap, he knows more about 3D filming than most, I'm sure. Take the first movie for example...look at the scene when the autobots charge down the street after Brawl and Ironhide cartwheels over the woman screaming in the street with missiles flying around them...He was shooting in a 3D style before it was popular. Same goes for his signature scrolling room camera when they defeated Frenzy, same shot he used in the abandoned apartment in Bad Boys 2. Perfect 3D techniques.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The first two movies stories were not good like how some of you are making them out to be, mikela magically dissapearing wont be any more retarded then anything that happend in revenge of the fallen, and if you think revenge of the fallen had a good story you are a fucking monkey pig dog retarded bitch cunt that needs to go to school.

All i want to see is amazing action scenes, cgi and 3D, amazing sound effects and music, and the story to be at least a bit better then the first and ill be happy.

  33. anonymous 6:34 Megan is a shelfish bitch who doesn't care about the TRANSFORMERS! She quit because Bay told her she was skinny! If it wasn't for Bay she wouldn't be FAMOUS! She became famous after Transformers(2007)! She called Bay Hitler and the worst director to work with! She was a NOBODY when Bay found her! Even the film crew called her a bitch! Everyone is tired of Fox! She should be thankful that Michael Bay MADE HER FAMOUS! For 2 years ago she was VERY HOT, but not anymore! Thank you for reading, have a good day!

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Anonymous 11/29/2010 10:54 AM: the reason why Megan Fox was fired we will never know for sure. Her not being hot .. yeah if you are gay. The new Rosie topmodel is not hot just pretty average and won't be able to sell the movie. The only option they got characters and plot wise is to show Mikaela funeral or the movie will suck.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think what Michael Bay meant to say was, " Come into my office, so that you can kiss my ass and say how great I am, then and only then can you see 3D footage for TF3:DOTM!" Other than that, I am definitely looking forward to TF3 except for one thing. Sam's new girlfriend is UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Martinus Prime11/29/2010 3:31 PM

Who cares if the 3D is perfect and Bay says it's the best 3D up to date, he'll probably be right no doubt, but I could care less.
Fact is, 3D doesn't create much depth at all, it is and always will be a stupid gimmick!

    I'm with spectre1701, it's amazing how Bay turned 180 on 3D, I just can't believe it man!
How untrusworthy is that for a director to say, first saying 3D is a silly gimmick and now saying it's the best and you have to watch it in 3D?! Only cause Paramount made him?
Don't get me wrong, I love his movies, but what a hoax!

    ReplyDelete
  40. i dont give shit11/29/2010 4:14 PM

i really dont give ah crap about the damn love shit.......im just going see it for the TFORMERS themselfes

    ReplyDelete
  41. @Martinus Prime: Bay didn't want to film Transformers3, he wanted to do BadBoys3 instead but Paramount managers and CEO forced him to do it first anyway or they would have fired most of his staff working for Paramount and ILM.
And then Paramount kept putting pressure on him upping the ante forcing him to go 3D or there was no deal and they would have replaced him with another director too.
And so Michael Bay started damaging the Transformers franchise to hurt Paramount. He fired Megan Fox and he did his worst female casting ever with the Rosie topmodel that it's a very bad replacement just unable to sell the movie, this way ensuring that both characters and plot wise as well as the hot girl marketing factor would have been seriously compromised.
Then he requested native 3D cameras but Paramount didn't give him enough money nor time anyway to do a good job, he knew it and he planned it would have happened, and so it leaked out that only 40minutes of the movie were actually shot in native 3D and what did he do then? He didn't change his filming style which he knew just couldn't work with current gimmick 3D cameras and outdated technology, he knew that his own style of filming was going to break the process but he did it anyway... 1+1 and you wonder why... yeah..
On interviews he kept telling that this is going to be his last movie on the franchise, that Paramount and Hasbro will have to reboot the series, that he is going to give the trilogy an ending that couldn't be undone and characters that die in this one will stay dead with no plot tricks to the rescue....

Michael Bay strategy to kill the movie it's pretty obvious, he doesn't care, he is rich anyway, he will blame other factors and the huge competition that there is on Summer 2011 if the movie flops or bombs as he hopes to send Paramount managers a clear message.
He will be moving to BadBoys3 with Sony in a blink of an eye anyway so he doesn't care much. He wanted to quit the franchise when they forced him to do Transformers3 first despite him telling that he wanted to postpone it.
And firing the lead actress he created to sell the franchise in the first place as the iconic sex symbol was just the beginning...

    ReplyDelete
  42. "You will never be happy, because your going to complain about ALL THE FUCKING DETAILS LIKE A LITTLE NERD!"

  45. The problem isn't ditching an actress, the problem is ditching the character Mikaele Banes.

This is the same as dicthing Leia in Return of the Jedi.

The side argument that Megan Fox looks better then Rosie Huntington has nothing to do with the character issue. Though Megan Fox does look better tbh.

Anyway, THE most important story element is how they incorporate Mikaala Banes not being the lead female character. And I have a fear they will FAIL at that story arc. Massively.

As Mikaela Banes shouldn't have been dropped to begin with.

Not how I use CHARACTER names, NOT actress names.

  47. Revenge of the fallen was full of what should have been unusable footage

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm not a very fan of Megan Fox, but I hate when directors, producers or whetever who did it change the characters in a movie, now I ask you guys something, there is a little chance that Mikaela Banes's character appears in a fourth movie? I mean, if this movie fail.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Anonymous 11/30/2010 6:27 AM: There won't be a fourth movie. Paramount and Hasbro will be forced to reboot the series with an all new cast and a new director. Michael Bay already told that he is going to quit the franchise. Spielberg will quit too that's highly likely. Hasbro might find another studio to continue the project, maybe they will move to Disney or Universal or Sony, who knows.
So don't expect any of the old and current cast to come back. They ruined the trilogy when Bay fired Megan Fox and the franchise it's over. They are going to give a pathetic silly explanation of why Mikaela Banes is there no more, their only good option would be to show her funeral that could allow the general public to accept Sam Witwicky with a new girlfriend BUT it's unlikely that they will go that smart way and they will come up with some "funny" so-they-will-claim moments of why Mikaela broke up with Sam and they will think that that's good comedy although it will just look pathetic, silly and disgusting after the first two movies. Ruining characters development and plot continuity like this is just the best way to kill a franchise, and this trilogy is dead with this third movie.

    ReplyDelete
  50. They don't ruined anything firing Megan Fox. And the franchise isn't going to end due to this.

It's going to end because Bay doesn't want to continue and Shia doesn't want to continue.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Alex, they ditched the CHARACTER Mikaela Banes, that will kill the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anonymous 2:32 PM, I think so too, and in July we will see.

  53. fireing megan fox did NOT ruined anything damnment theres gunna be no forth bc they feel that they dont want to coutinue and enough about bay and the shit about he knows hes killin the fraches.........thats abunch of bullshit....

  54. "They ruined the trilogy when Bay fired Megan Fox and the franchise it's over"

no they ruined the franchise with the bullshit known as revenge of the fallen,
hopefully john turturro doesnt have many scenes because he had the only human character that was worse then megan's

    ReplyDelete
  55. @Anonymous 11/30/2010 9:46 PM: Mikaela Banes character was excellent and sold the first two movies. Her relationship with Sam Witwicky was key to characters development and plot and being played by Megan Fox used as a sex symbol to sell the first two movies to the general public helped the franchise more than ever. There Michael Bay was very smart. When he fired Megan Fox he did his worst mistake ever and then the replacement topmodel Rosie he selected was his worst female casting ever seen, that girl is not hot but barely average looking and has no chance to sell this third movie. Also by doing this he killed plot continuity and characters development.

  57. i read the description of the first trailer; basically it will show nothing: we'll see a bunch of shots of a nasa control room, some aistronauts on the moon and one of them tells to control room: "we are not alone". we see some transformers on the moon e and the camera approches the eye of one of them(probably shockwave?). then the camera follows the internal mechanisms of the robot that comes to life. that's all.
