Toy Fair 2014 Reveals Transformers 4 Grimlock Robot Mode, Confirms Movie Characters and Alt Modes

In preparation for Toy Fair 2014 being held in New York this weekend, Hasbro has revealed their initial line-up of Transformers: Age of Extinction toys for "youngsters" called the One Step Changers via USA Today (and mirrored on TFormers). The official images (below) show the robot mode of Grimlock (which seems more like a mash-up of Grimlock and Beast Wars Dinobot). The images also provides the first official confirmation of what fans had already worked out for Crosshairs (Autobot, green 2014 C7 Corvette Stingray), Drift (Autobot, black & blue 2013 Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse), Lockdown (Decepticon, dark gray 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Coup) and Stinger (Decepticon, blood red 2013 Pagani Huayra). In addition there is a "new" Dinobot called Slash with a Velociraptor alt mode. I assume that means that is a fourth Dinobot confirmed for the movie (outside of Grimlock, Slug, and Strafe) but it could just be a toy and not have a movie appearance.

As for the toy part, One-Step Changers are just what you expect with that title - a single move to swap modes and priced for $9.99 each. Eighteen different figures at that price point will be release in May, but so far only the 7 below have been revealed. There is also Chomp and Stomp Grimlock (right pic) priced at $79.95 for release in August. From USA Today, "The Dinobot boasts a chomping jaw and light-up in eyes in beast mode, and has an easy transformation to sword-swinging robot, too. Grimlock also interacts with his fellow toys — he comes with a non-converting Optimus so kids can relive the extremely nerdy moment from the trailer where the Autobot rides Grimlock into battle, plus unlock sounds and pop-out weapons. Plus, he can be used with other One-Step Changer figures and has different lights and sounds whether you pair him with an Autobot or Decepticon." Bumblebee is a "Mega" One-Step Changer priced at $29.99, also for August release. Now the Changers are described as being for "youngsters". Based on a slide from Hasbro's Investor Event, they tend to break ages down in terms of 2-4 years (Rescue Bots), 4-10 (Robots in Disguise, Kre-O, Construct Bots), 11-17 (guessing Generations, TF: Prime) and 18+ (Encore, Masterpiece). One-Step seems to go in the 2-10 range so they probably have more planned for the other age brackets.

As for that Investor Event, Hasbro hinted at some of their plans for 2014. In regards to Transformers, get use to Age of Extinction as they plan on carrying on the movie line to at least 2017. As for TF4, it was described as the "next chapter in the Transformers saga" where if the 1st movie was about a boy getting a car and the girl then the fourth is "about a truck that needs a friend to save the world." Hasbro did re-iterate plans to continue the Transformers: Generations line (which to me is one of their best ever) and they are developing Transformers mobile games and video games for 2014 but no specific details provided. They also showed off first official images of the fan created (and IDW supported) new Autobot called Windblade along with a new Generations Jetfire mold that looks spectacular. The full slideshow and other Hasbro wide details can be found at TFW2005.

So to sum it all up, Hasbro has big multi-year plans from Transformers: Age of Extinction, continuing the Generations line and revealed more of simplification approach to the movie line. While they might be too simple for long time fans, its still to early to draw meaningful conclusions as maybe 10% of the movie line has been revealed so far. Hopefully will learn more from Toy Fair 2014. Thanks to Sean W. and Feris O. for the heads-up. Update: Added the Hasbro Investor Presentation Video below.

  1. Really don't like the oversimplified transformations or the alt mode designs of the characters, why do they have swords or shields?? The transformers are an advanced alien race, seriously... they should be using guns or other advanced weaponry and grimlocks alt mode he still looks like an animal he does not look like an advanced alien robot in his alt mode, bad designs!!

  2. That does confirm the TFCars pic of Grimlock a few months back. The color scheme in this Grimlock is different as well. Keep in mind most of these figures are the One Step Changers and not nearly as good as their Deluxe and Voyager counterparts.

  3. Maybe the Dinobots are so ancient that they do not have guns or any other weapons like them.

  4. Possibly. I kind of hope this new dinobot is in the movie. Grimlock's robot mode looks like it will be pretty cool when it's in cgi

    1. Something feels different in him, but not the eye color. Devastator also had green eyes in ROTF.

That's already confirmed. The screenshots of the super bowl spot at TFW2005 showed that the gun faced tf has the Lamborghini badge.
So there is no doubt anymore.

I think Grimlock looks awesome, he's gonna be huge as a robot! Also the faces of Drift and Lockdown look awesome! Drift looks a bit like Wreck-Gar.

    4. Tell you how on which? Drift or Crosshairs? Drift I dunno but with Crosshairs it's the face minus the mustache and expression on his face when he's swinging in the trailer.

Yes Crosshairs doed indeed also look like Wreck-Gar.
The reason why feel that Drift looks Wreck-gar, is also bc of the face/head with the goatee.

    6. Going back and looking at the packaging of Drift I can totally see some resemblance. I'm not really a big fan of how humanized they are looking though.

  9. ok so grimlock is 10 times bigger than prime so that means ol grim is tall as the empire state building lmao...they couldnt give us a decent devastator but they can give us a skyscraper sized dinobot when transformed lmao...wow tf4 is soooo shitty i can only imagine the story but i guess lockdown is so bad ass prime needs over sized dinbots to beat him lol..i agree with first post why do advanced alien robots need swords and shields they have advanced weapons and why do they have to look like samurais its not like its gonna make them fit in on a crowded sidewalk in china lmao..lockdown looks awesome but the rest is SHIT

    1. Swords are not uncommon in Transformers.

Megatron used energy bladed sword at one point in the cartoons
      Razorclaw did as well
      Hot Rod at one point
Tantrum used both a gun and sword and this is only some of the G1 characters

Grimlock does not look to be as big a skyscraper. Do you realize how big a skyscraper is?

I don't get the feeling Lockdown is the big bad in this movie...there are robots that we have yet to figure out who are...in particular that robot slicing the car in half. All of it is purely speculation.

      Delete
    2. Of course Lockdown can not be the big bad, not with that size. I've heard that there are actually more bounty hunters than just him. But Lockdown might be somewhat of well armed or agile con even with that size.

      Delete
    3. And I wasn't the same jerk who called the other movie characters shit. I also disagree with him.

      Delete
    4. all the come backs you have is that they have used swords before lmao..grimlock is way too big can you imagine him in robot form on screen he will be big as devastator lmao and their new samurai look to fit in with china ppl lmao i guess that will cover the fact they are huge robots lol..i guess tf5 the autobots will drive around in huge cars in mexico wearing sombreros lol

      Delete
    5. Lol what an idiot. Do you know how big a skyscraper is? Grimlock is nowhere near that big.

      Delete
    6. That was already said to that whoever person.

      Delete
    7. It's failure to respond when I asked him if he knew how big a skyscraper is..well I guess he doesn't..

It's a troll and as for me personally..I will not feed it any longer

    8. I dont know whether i like either cyclonus or lockdown as the main villians, something needs to be bigger than them tbh, and because cyclonus was created by unicron more decepticons would be created by unicron, cyclonus as a freighliner is also very weird

      Delete
    9. Neither of them is the villain. Galvatron is my most likely suspect.

  10. Why is it that Bay feels the need to create his own Transformers for each movie, their are plenty of Transformers to choose from....now we have a new Dinobot, Slash...........I just don't get it!?!

  21. TFW2005 has taken some pictures of new toys. Kre-O toys include minifigures of Optimus, Bumblebee, Hound, Drift, Crosshairs, Lockdown and surprisingly also Ratchet (with M1 colors), Sideswipe (with red color) and blue Vehicons. Not sure if they'll appear in the film, but also a some Ankylosaurus-slightly-looking Dinobot was seen.

  26. It has been confirmed... The big Transformer in the teaser that was seen cutting the car in half is Galvatron and he is the Argosy. I have to be honest... I'm not at all happy to hear that. I'm not saying that Bay won't make it work in the film... I was just hoping the truck would maybe be a new character. Not too mention I kind of thought we could go without Megatron for a movie... Oh well... Also... it was also confirmed that all the Dinobots will have robot modes in the movie (but you already new that).

Lastly... and maybe I'm nit-picking and it won't be as bad in the actual film... but it seems as if Bay is losing sight that they are a highly advanced ALIEN race... what's up with all the human aspects? Such as Drifts face and Drifts swords and Crosshairs guns? Like I said, maybe it will be better in the actual movie... Can't wait to see all the "off Earth " action!!!

    1. Where's it confirmed that's Galvatron? Doesn't surprise me that Megs is once again a truck. Well if it's Galvatron and he's a truck doesn't mean that Unicron is in it. I'm hoping not anyways. He wouldn't be done justice.

Not sure if the complaint is the swords or not but as was said above it's not unusual for them to have swords.

The only thing that really gets me is as you said all the human like aspects. Their giant robots! No need to humanize them.

    2. I'm just annoyed that galvatron looks the way he is, Megatron in revenge of the fallen looks stronger than Galvatron in age of extinction, Megatron is suppose to be upgraded not fricking down graded, Galvatron doesn't even look that evil, they should have kept horns on galvatron, his robot mode also looks shit as hell..

  28. I'm not complaining that they have swords... I'm complaining how (at first glance) it looks as if a lot of these swords (the one Prime is holding and the one's drift have) seem to resemble human swords. I think it's much more realistic to have them like the sword Prime has used in the first three movies... it was more alien. Look... I don't mean to sound ungrateful... I just want these films to be good.
