Bay Comments on Misinformation Campaign

Michael Bay back in April claimed he would initiate a disinformation campaign to confuse Transfans about the movie. This morning he posted a remark on that campaign on his message boards.
The only full script for the movie exist with me and the original writer's. A select few crew members have read parts, some of the leads have read full scripts - but the number is under ten. One person from Paramount, three from Dreamworks.

We have leaked several scripts, some treatments and various scenes that are used to mislead the internet. We have mocked up wrong schedules and call sheets with fake scenes on them. When shooting scenes we don't refer to character names and use wrong faces on the poles representing different robots that are going to be placed in - It's a lot of work but seems to have worked out because no one knows the story of the movie besides Sam going to college.

Bay
Michael Bay must think Tranfans are fools and easily tricked and I don't appreciate it. The reality is Bay's disinformation is to simply claim there is disinformation campaign.

Let's look at his so-called examples. Number of leaked scripts? Zero. If they are out there then people are keeping them close to the vest. Number of leaked treatments? One, way back in October of last year that involved a Transformer invasion of Las Vegas. The treatment was a fun read but also would have been incredibly expensive to produce. Few took it as the real thing.

Number of scenes leaked? Zero, goes back to the script idea. To leak a scene means leaking a portion of a script which hasn't occurred. Now Bay could be saying he is shooting fake scenes but I call bullshit on that. The man takes too much pride in shooting films on time, on budget, and using the money wisely. Filming fake scenes smacks in the face of all three. As for the fake head on poles thing, I have yet to read a single description online that even referred to them so if he is using them, no one but the cast and crew seems to be aware of it.

Number of schedules in the wild? Zero. Technically the call sheets could be one but at this point all "schedule" information has consisted of either information given to the press of the locations they are shooting at or "guess what I found!" moments. There has been some incorrect information in regards to shooting in New York but I think that was human error rather then Bay's work. But for giggles I will give him credit for it. One "fake" location out of dozens of accurate ones makes for pretty crappy use of misinformation.

As for the call sheets, so far only one has been leaked from Bethlehem. I think the only "fake" part of the sheet is many of the Transformers name such as Wheelie, R8, Stinger, etc which are probably placeholder names. I don't think Jetfire and Arcee are placeholders but who knows for sure. The rest of the information is legitimate.

The information contained in the call sheets has been verified by multiple witnesses in mulitple locations and with dozens of pictures. The vehicles have been spotted not only in Bethlehem but since then in Philadelphia and now San Pedro. Are we supposed to believe Bay would waste money transporting cars across the country (most of which are expensive concept cars) if they are not actually being used in the film? Please.

The sheets correctly identified the next stage of the schedule when production moved to the Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center and accurately describes seens that witnesses report seeing filmed. A scene was scheduled with a Blackbird and what do you know...a scene was filmed with a Blackbird. Cast members, such as Ramon Rodriguez, where identified as part of the cast via the sheet and he has since been seen in Philly shooting with Megan Fox. Did Bay pay the expense of flying an actor and film him if he isn't even in the film? Yeah right. Nothing about those call sheets have been contradicted and most has been verified in pictures, videos and from multiple different witnesses.

About the only thing accurate in Bay's statement is his comment on the story. Despite the many pictures and set reports over the last two months, we still have no clear idea on what the story is about and have not verified exactly what Transformers are or are not in the film (except Soundwave). All we know, thanks to direct comments from Bay, Orci and Kurtzman, is the story has Sam going to college away from home when Transformer stuff occurs. Even with the call sheets we still don't have any useful information to figure out what the story is really about, just a whole lot of guesses.

What Bay should be posting about is not his nonexistent misinformation but pride in his cast and crew. Despite hundreds of people being involved in production, many public sets, and hundreds of pictures taken of the cars and cast, we still don't know that much about the film. Just look at the cheat sheet, its littered with "rumor" notes and best guesses based on multiple car appearances, set sightings, and probability that concept car equals Transformer.

I take pride in the fact that this blog has been a source of much of the information out there about Transformers 2 thanks to site readers that have provided information and pictures over the last two months but to my knowledge none of that information has come from the cast and crew.

If there is an unofficial slogan of this website, it is "speculation is most of the fun." A genuine misinformation campaign with fake scenes, scripts and treatments would be a whole lot of fun to pick apart and discuss. I would invite such an effort. If we have one fact about this movie, it is that Bay's misinformation campaign simple does not exist.

Instead of patting himself on the back for a job not done, Michael Bay should be patting his cast and crew on the back for a job well done in maintaining the secrecy of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

What do you think? Discuss in the comments but please keep it civil and PG rated.

  1. While obviously a lot of what we've seen is undeniably true (for instance, location shoots at Smithsonian, etc), I'm pretty sure a lot of what we've seen has been part of an active disinformation campaign.

I'm still willing to put money down that the ice cream truck transformer is fake and part of the misinformation campaign. Maaaaybe the remote controlled monster truck at the Smithsonian, too.

  2. I don't think you should take such offense to Bay. He's not saying the cars we've seen aren't in the movie but maybe they aren't the characters we think they are. Also how do you know how he feels about his crew and how he is treating them. I find this to be an overreaction to him trying to keep as much under wraps as he can considering alot was leaked on the last movie. Plus he never said he was fake filming scenes, which would be ridiculous. Except for a few pictures we know nothing. Don't get me wrong I love this site and all info on the movie but no need to get so bent out of shape over it.

  3. I think your taking this way too seriously, so what if he's trying to mess with people on the internet....can you honestly blame him after what happened with the first film?

And what makes you think he's not "padding his crew on the back" where it matters.....on set?

  4. Heh, it's funny... I thought that this was the Transformers Live Action Movie Blog, but it seems I've stumbled into the bitch-o-thon.

Who gives a crap about this? I really can't see the big deal about what Bay said.

  5. You might have a point about me taking it to seriousily. I don't know.

From my perspective, he is in effect saying that all the specualtion and guesses online are lies and people should not believe them. Considering what this blog and many posts on the web are about, yeah I am a bit insulted.

Also, the fact is people do believe an active disinformation campaign is going on and the main point of the post is to try and point out that it simply doesn't exist.

All he is trying to do is sow seeds of doubt about any information that comes out from the movie. Which is fine.

But his use of supposed real examples (call sheets, scripts, etc) that don't seem to exist rubs me the wrong way. Its enters the realm of complete fabrication, a lie. And the thing about lies is they only work if your assuming that the persons your telling it too isn't smart or knowledgable enough to see through it.

On the bright side...his post does muddy the waters (even if it shouldn't) and that will lead to some lively discussions down the line.

And his people do deserve public credit for their rather annoying ability to maintain the secrets of the movie. Where are the plethora of leaks that surround other movies!

  6. Dude, it's just a movie. Really, what all has this blog brought besides a few dozen pictures? Besides, did he directly said, "The guy who runs the Transformers Live Action Movie Blog is a bitch!", no. He didn't. I said that. I think this post is a big waste. In fact, it completely goes against what this blog is about, and you're just using this to exploit your imaginary thought that Bay hates you. You're just like all those other Bay haters out there.

  7. I think TF live is right Bay is saying there are a bunch of leaked Items But were are they?? I don't hate Bay I think he did an amazing job on the first movie and will do the same on the second. I think we are all smart enough to figure out what is real and what is not by putting the peices togther using the call sheet and the pics that are posted

  8. Really? Then how about you tell me what is going to happen in this movie, hmm?

  9. Bay is doing a good job of keeping it secretive - he mentioned no fans knowing the true story of the movie, and it's true. Don't take it so personally. As dan orris put it you're sounding like another Bay-hater.

While you have some valid points, you bring in too much personal opinion and this news blog is beginning to sound rather biased.

    ReplyDelete
  10. what if Bay's disinformation statement is disinformation itself? Its like a double negative.

I wasn't saying I know what is going to happen I was refering to what cars are going to be in it and what sets there are.

We know Sam goes to college, we know there is a TF battle in a makeshift China town. We know there a jet in a museum. we know Sams parent get chased in a make shift paris. We know Mikayla crashes into a pole because of a decepticon. I could go on but you get the picture. Put your own pieces together!!

  12. To the person that wrote this on the blog, really, no need to get bent over it. Let him make the movie, it will be kickass awesome!

  13. What if I told you that I already suspected that this blog of yours is part of the misinformation campaign up to a certain point..? That whoever is behind this website and blog either has a direct or indirect connection with the production and that Bay is well aware of it?
The fact that you posted fishy comments that appear to be almost against Bay blaming his pride and claiming that there is no misinformation campaign going on... well, that explains a lot to me. That explains that the campaign exists and that this post and who know how many others here and spread over other websites could be part of it.

  14. i think his campaign might be working because everybody thinks that the R8 is a decepticon which i think might be wrong because the last photo of some of the cast bot in the first film had all the autobots n one decepticon now we have another pic with most of the autobots n i think the corvette is a decepticon

    ReplyDelete
  15. because a few post ago about the hot rod at edwards,(if true about what bay said) that hot rod has to steal bumblebee's spotlight which the R8 would do becuz it was in ironman and every1 loved that movie, plus i think all the autobots will have great colors to them autobots have never been simple colors so i think the few silver cars will get sum great makeovers, guess will jus have to wait n see

  16. You think Bay's secretive measures are a slap in the face to the fans? He's gotta keep it secret, or we will all know this movie inside and out. Right now I have absolutely no idea what is happening in this movie and that's how I like it. And whats more insulting? Bay being secretive or someone hacking into his laptop and stealing his script like in TF1?

How about you start acting like a NEWS reporter in this NEWS blog rather than a whiny fanboy.

  17. I've got an idea...why don't we WAIT for the movie to come out before we start bitching about whether such and such is misinformation. Being disappointed by the end results/finding out that leaks were true shouldn't matter while the thing is SILL FILMING. Wait till it comes out. Chill

    ReplyDelete
  18. Another thing, maybe he's PREPARED a bunch of fake materials (Scripts, treatments, schedules, call sheets, etc) but he's not aware about which ones in particular his production company has leaked. he's got better things to do than search all the transfan sites/forums on a daily basis, like say, make a movie.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Blog Dude, you are always so right, I can't really add any more comments. You always say it exactly how I feel. Bay's supposed misinformation campaign is directed at you, so you have right to react. You aren't bitching, you are responding. Logically at that.

A couple statement from others did stand out for me also...

"All he is trying to do is sow seeds of doubt about any information that comes out from the movie."

"Bay's disinformation statement is disinformation itself? Its like a double negative."

So really Bay can say whatever he wants, we can still see the truth. Especially with the help of this blog. And what's it matter to Bay anyways. Did he get hurt last movie. I don't think so. So what's the point? Whatever Baybot. Say what you want as long as you put together a top notch movie, like TF #1.

Oh ya, I still think Jetfire is the Fallen, and I'm beginning to wonder if it's Stunticons we will see forming together rather than Constructicons. Maybe the Vette & R8 are Stunticons (which would explain close proximaty & color schemes) and the truck with trailer in the pictures below is Motormaster. What made that dude just decide to come up with a concept for Motormaster out of the blue. Does he know something we don't?

Jetfire's story & and the rivalary of Prime & MM offer for some outstanding story telling...

  21. One might think that IDW Publishing, who are going to produce a couple of comic books based on the second movie and who recently claimed having been provided with a copy of the script, would actually have the REAL script and not a fake one.

One might furthermore assume that Hasbro probably has some sort of script.

Two years ago, Bay claimed that all the names of the Transformers that would appear in the first movie used on the set were "aliases". He claimed that the only three people who knew the final names by that point were Bay himself, Hasbro's CEO and Hasbro's corporate lawyer, and nobody would know those names until the toys' packaging was being printed. (How about those packaging designers and printers?) He furthermore claimed that even the SCREENWRITERS didn't know the final names (but were led to believe that they did).

Yeah. See how it turned out. The Autobots all retained their "alias" names, the only reason most of the Decepticons (who weren't even really pre-existing characters other than their names except for Megatron and Starscream, so keeping their names a "secret" would be the most idiotic thing to do. Imagine an X-Men movie where the only characters whose names are kept a secret are the ones created specifically for the movie, and then randomly given names of characters from the comics.) had different names back in 2006 was because they were being rewritten and redesigned and renamed about five million times, and THE ONE CHARACTER BAY SPECIFICALLY CLAIMED WOULD HAVE A DIFFERENT NAME IN THE FINAL MOVIE ultimately ended up having THE SAME NAME BAY CLAIMED WAS JUST AN ALIAS in the actual movie (I'm talking about "Devastator"), even though the toy's packaging (which Bay claimed would be the first indication of the final names) called him "Brawl".

Oh, and the screenwriters who were allegedly working with "alias" names, unbeknownst to them? Bob Orci recently called that notion "ludicrous".

Yeah, Michael, we totally believe you.

(The first movie was still AWESOME, though.)

  22. Offhandedly - is Michael Bay's site/forums working for anyone else? His site comes up as a blank page and his forums don't seem to exist.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Whoa. Dude seriously took that way out of line.

Anyways, how do you KNOW for sure that call sheet wasn't an "accidental leak", intentionally leaked and then "look what I found".

I think it is fun to guess what might be right and always have that bit of doubt wether you are completely wrong.

What would be the point of watching the movie if you were privy to every single scene, character and plot point and knew that you were 100% correct?

Maybe Michael Bay is telling the absolute truth and he really is doing an all out disinformation campaign. Maybe the call sheet was fake, maybe a ton of the characters were fake, maybe a couple of those locations that Bumblebee and the others actually showed up in were also just done to throw people off and those scenes will never be used.

Maybe he's rightfully saying "hey, don't believe everything you read on the internet, because it may not be right (a revolutionary thought about online content, perhaps? one would think so after reading this post), and you may be disappointed/happier with the movie as a result."

And instead of taking the challenge and fun of speculating on a movie currently in production, you've for some reason twisted it around to make it look as if Bay is insulting his cast and crew by this statement. Talk about going from point A, skipping over point B, and going to point 9.

Well, maybe that victimized cast and crew is in on the ruse too?

Or maybe most of the information is spot on and we are supposed to doubt it now, so we are still somewhat surprised when the movie comes out?

I think the existence of those questions are the whole point of Bay's comments.

  24. Would Bay prefer that no one be interested in his movie or the franchise? Misinformation campaign. Gimme a break. This confirms, to me, that he's an egomaniac of the First Order. I can see a Blue Harvest type thing in the name of security and being able to schedule shootings... but a "campaign" to fool fans who are really excited about his movie? If he's actually serious, he's completely lost it.

Thanks for a great site, btw. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. "Michael Bay must think Transfans are fools..." Well, given the immature antics of certain members of the fandom, can you blame him for thinking this? Or even taking action to curtail the effect? That aside, I suspect the "misinformation" campaign has more to do with keeping things contained in order to avoid TF burnout before the movie hits. Like it or lump it, there's something to be said about keeping the shades drawn.

  26. Wow! No one here seems to have anything close to a LIFE!!!

Are you guys really sitting around trying to figure out what's going to happen in a movie that won't even be out until 2009? What if you die before the movie comes out? Think of all the time you wasted bitching, complaining, and whining. I am in my late 30's and grew up with a great fascination over the TF and the toys. And I look forward to seeing the next movie (although the first live-action left a lot to be desired, it wasn't really as good as everyone thinks...it was slow and not detail oriented whatsoever). Go ahead and tell me how wrong I am, it's your opinion and everyone knows opinions are like assholes...everyone's got one. Now that I really think about it, the script was actually pretty lame, see how many people remember it 10 years from now. Anyway, the point of this comment was to tell you all to go out there and enjoy LIFE and before you know it, the movie will be in theaters and you'll get to see what happens and who is in it and blah blah blah....

  27. Lol. Youve taken this way too seriously mate.

Just leave him alone - Dont get so offended. It makes you look pathetic.

How can you NOT beleive the idea of the Call Sheets being fake and distributed? Makes sense to me. Thats awesome. Lol.

OR Maybe him saying that there is disinformation is disinformation! And just likes to watch you get all pissy. XD

  28. A little misinformation wouldn't hurt. I mean, if the movie is good we aren't going to be disappointed if it isn't what made us go oooh and cool when reading any misinformation.

There is one thing I think they might be scared of though. There are talanted fan-fiction writers out there. I loved the first movie, but if you take apart the story it's simplistic, full of logic bloopers and whatnot. The threat of someone writing a fake script that kicks their own scripts ass is very real.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Guh, I forgot the point. If read a fake script that kicks ass and then goes to see the movie when it comes out will probably be very disappointed.
