Devastator Confirmed for TF2?

TFW2005 is reporting that they have a trusted source that has confirmed that the G1 combiner Devastator will be in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
TFW2005 has received confirmation that the combiner Devastator will appear in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The confirmation includes the following details:

- Seven construction vehicles merge to form Devastator
- Devastator has lots of upper body strength, like a gorilla
- Not just green, some of the vehicles are red and yellow
- The previously Long Haul concept art by Josh Nizzi is legit
The information came from a source whose previous information has been accurate. Possibly from Holloman Air Force Base where Transformers 2 production is right now?

I have my doubts on this story but let us start with why this could be true. Back in April, a character list was leaked that at the same time said Devastator would be in the movie. While the names where changed, the description of several characters remain accurate to known info on casting. Add to that is the call sheet from Bethlehem that describes a Constructicon Earth Mover. In general there has been a combiner like theme in the rumors that have come from the various sets but attached to different characters. Maybe this is what they are all referring to rather then to the "Twins" or Arcee.

Having said that I do have my doubts. The main reason is Hasbro. Their interest in the movie comes down to what toys they can make money from. While Devastator was the first TF combiner of 6 parts, those that have followed over the last 20 years have combines from 2, 3 or 5 parts. The more parts to the combiner, the more difficult the engineering to create the 7 components and do it in a way that children can reproduce for play. Also, the more parts, the more expensive the toy. Usually Hasbro tries to hover in the sweet spot of $20-$25 dollars by either making the combiner either 1 medium and 4 small TFs or 3 medium TFs. In this case, even with 7 small TFs, the results will still shoot past that price point and hover around $40. Of course, toys such as Ultimate Bumblebee have proven that too a certain extent complication and cost isn't as huge a concern for Hasbro as it use to be.

Another reason I have doubts is the lack of visibility of any construction vehicles on any sets so far. Production is more then half way through and yet nada. With leaks of secret concept vehicles and the like, I would think a construction vehicle would have been spotted by now. Of course maybe those moments have simply not yet been filmed. Maybe Bay will go with complete CGI for Devastator (both vehicles and robots).

Last is my own source said the constructicon earth mover was really just a single none gestalt related Transformer that is based on the world's largest earth mover. Of course, that could be wrong. Or, as it just occurred to me, maybe if the Decepticons are getting oversized assistance then the Autobots get their own extra large help.

I hope TFW2005's source nailed it. A Transformer combined from 7 construction vehicles would just be awesome to see on the big screen (and the toy would be fun too). Optimus Prime was around 32 feet tall and nearly the size and mass of an average construction vehicle. It stands to reason then that the average height of the individual components would be around the same height. Based on that, I would guess that the height of a combined Devastator would be around 80 feet tall. Can't really beat that for scale and epic feel to a movie. Just a random thought, if Devastator spoke at that scale, would the volume and power behind his voice shatter the glass of any surrounding buildings due to the power of the sound wave that would unintentionally be generated? As always, its all speculation until the movie comes out.

Thanks to Katie for the link and a site reader for providing the image of CGI rendered Long Haul model.

  1. I think you meant "feet" instead of "inches" when describing how tall Prime was ;)

  2. That would be awesome to have Devastator in the movie. But I can see where it may not work also.

I can just see Devastator stompin through LA smashing buildings saying "I am Devastator" If he is in the movie I hope they make him like he was in G1 kinda stupid hehe

  4. What about the fact that the name Devastator was already used on the first movie? I know they were saying that it was a mistake and it should have been Brawl... I can't see TF2 using the same name twice, but it would be nice to see a combiner like Devastator though.

Naahhh, toys will be shown way before the movie, we will then know ;P

  6. i agree...the toys will leak before we know what's actually in the movie.
reasons why this can be true...
just because LONG HAUL hasn't been seen on set or any other contruction vehicle, they will probably be CGI. face it, a "real" LONG HAUL would move way to slow. not good for action movie. cgi could speed their speeds up will involved in action scenes.
reason's why this can't be true...the complications of making all 7 toys merge into one. devastator was used in frist movie. unless everyone who died in TF1 comes back to life, this just doesn't make sense.

  10. i dont buy it. i think its misinformation. But i think this could backfire. everyone is expecting devastator , goes to the movie, no dev. big disappointment.

I hope he is in it. would be really cool.

as for the fact we havent seen any construction vehicle in action yet on set. Have we seen any decep yet? except de audi r8

  11. Uhm, you say 7 constructicons formed devastator..

    wasn't it 6 constructicons?

  12. Fact: On the Transformers 2 Treatment script that "got leaked" and was dated 10-02-07 there was Devastator

Fact: That treatment script was rejected but Bay confirmed it was a legit one that they just didn't like

Who wrote the treatment, just like who wrote any other treatment that was read and considered before rejecting it, obviously got the elements to put into it from Bay/Spielberg along with Paramount and Hasbro of course. It's not that any writer could decide to use whatever character and maybe going against the producers will. It's quite logical that the potential script writers got some basic elements to work on, and probably either some or many of those elements on the rejected treatment script will appear in the final movie and have been put in the actual script.

  13. I think this is odd. There have not been any videos of construction videos posted anywhere that I know of.

Maybe they changed the concept and now Devestator is not a combined array of Constructicons, but just Decepticons in general.

  14. videos of construction vehicles*

  15. they should have Larry the Cable guy do the voice of Devastator.

But the Audi can be a Stunticon.
    Remember this set of pics?

    Ok, I'm toying with you.
    Dare to dream.....

  17. So, the Constructicons will be in the new movie.

where does that leave the Autobots? surely they also need a gestalt to counter Devastator.

My bet's on Aerialbots being the counter-measure to take down Constructicons.

It'd be cool to see Autobots jet fighters ( Aerialbots) giving Starscream & his Seekers a run for their money with total air superiority.

  18. Guys I operate cranes for a living.. the ONLY reason (if Devastator is in the movie) that the construction equipment is BIG, BULKY AND SLOOOOW. A bull dozer for example chasing after prime? Come on folks... The tracks alone would tear up ashphalt and concrete. a wheel loader yes can travel up to 30mph but it's still big, bulky and expensive on fuel.

I believe if we see ANY constructicons in the movie the only "REAL" equipment we see will be them being "REAL" equipment the rest will all be CG.

it doesn't take much to figure that stuff out...

  19. I hope this is true, but I have a feeling this is fake.

  20. Prepare for Devastation!!!
I hope he is in the movie,But what are we going to call Devastator
If we all remember from the first movie Bay changed Brawl to((Devastator)) so we cant call him by his name now, unless we give two trasformers the same name...I hope not.

  21. remember the scene in the 84 cartoon when devastator put his hand in the wall and then frenzy stopped the consrtucticons from merging in Astrotrain oooooooooooooooooh shit I can't wait.!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Instead of calling it Devastator, they could simply call him Constructicon it sounds good to me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The scene with Devastator in the rejected script had his fight in the middle of the desert near a highway. Could explain why we haven't seen anything about it yet since it didn't involve any human actors.

Would also explain why we haven't seen any sign of ultra magnus yet (one of the autobots who fought him).

  24. @anonymous (above): construction equipment is slow and bulky ? Yes and no. It's Decepticons we are talking about here, they are not just some construction equipment, they can take the aspect of it but they are alien robot lifeforms. You should always remember that. If you think that just because they take a visual aspect of something on Earth then they become as slow as that thing could be then you are absolutely wrong on your assumptions.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Okay, seriously, don't get high hopes on this one.

It is fake. One of the false leaked info on the movie, trust me on this one guys and gals.

  26. As much as I love the constructicons, and how cool they were to play with as toys, I just have this feeling that Bay would not have a bunch of big slow moving construction vehicles in the movie. There would be almost no point to their vehicle modes, in an action film like this.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Tank is slow too, why'd he put Brawl (Devastator in movie) in the movie?

  30. Since they set the beginning fighting scene in a virtual Shanghai Iron and Steel Plant...then you can bet it's just logic for newly arrived Decpticons to scan those special engineering vehicles and form into devastator!

Insulting me doesn't prove you right. "real equipment" what ? They are alien robot lifeforms, that's your real equipment! Do you understand that all the human vehicles they turn into are just a visual simulation and they can still do whatever they want and use their own characteristics despite their visual aspect ?
They are not humans machines, they are aliens!

  32. The more I think about this, the more it seems true/real.

The Long-Haul design got leaked ages ago and due to the not-so-great quality of it we assumed it to be fan-made... look again, closer! There's a website you can just about make out and if you go to it... you'll find the designer of the leaked Long-Haul concept was Josh Nizzi... designer for live-action games and MOVIES!!!!

    follow the link... http://www.joshnizzi.com/

Why would a professional designer do this for 'fun'?? And more importantly, why would someone so much time and effort in producing the 3D model of Long-Haul... which happens to be an EXACT match of the colour-concept?!

Ladies and Gents... I think we can take this to be the first confirmed robot mode of TF2: RotF!

Whether or not Devastator the combiner will be present in the movie I don't know but it seems that Long-Haul is for keeps! Damn he's gonna be tough to take down!

Everything about the design rings true... the aesthetics (for a Decepticon), the face, the bulk, the power, etc... Although I'm yet to see any weapons! And I doubt he is gonna just resort to throwing rocks of the good guys! Looks like another 'Bonecrusher' to me... the face is almost identical!

What I like most about this design is what I disliked the most about Ironhide & Starscream from TF1... too many 'flaky' bits sticking out here and there! I mean look at IH's foot... especially when the dog pee'd on him! It was almost as if he had toe-nails!! Or that he was prancing around in stiletoes. And SS looked like a porcupine!

A nice robotic flat-foot should do the trick... and a hell of a lot of damage! Just imagine how long it'll Long-Haul to transform... the battle would be won and lost before all his parts would be in place!

Now if only Bay will do some transforms from a distance so you get the full-picture. The first movie had to many close-ups of transforms (also note that we only ever saw ONE sequence where Autobots went robot > alt mode... fleeing from S7! And NEVER... yes NEVER did we see Prime go robot > truck... only ever truck > robot... lets see more of the other this time round please!!) So yeah, more TFS from distance please... but not as distant as BB in the scrap yard before beaming off! Just distant enough so that we can see the robot full-height... please.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think Longhaul is going to be named Devastator at the last minute, because of his bulk and size NO OTHER constructicons would fit unless he is the torso, as for any weapons when you're fuckin big.............Just throw shit ,rocks ,scrap, and other vehicles.Other robots too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why can't this be real???..I believe it is. Look how many other robots have been comfirmed that we haven't seen too much of either..we know starscream is back but no sign of him, we now know that megatron is returning but we have not seen concepts of megs himself, Orci stated that Soundwave was definately in TF2 but we have yet to see any signs of him. To be honest, we haven't seen too much of any robots besides bumblebee and his GM friends driving around. If this movie is based just upon the photos we have seen, then it sucks big time..so I believe there's alot of production still left and lots we haven't seen already.

And does anybody remember jetfire??? He has to be huge..but he definately has a role in this. Brawl was as slow as a vehicle gets, but he made good screen time.
We haven't seen any decepticons if you really think about it but they are in the movie..so why not devestator!!??

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jesus, all I'm worried about is how are the Autobots going to fight an 80 Foot Devastator? That's effin' gigantic man! Shouldn't it be a little smaller?

    ReplyDelete
  36. upper body strength like a gorilla?...are you kidding me???

    aren't they already incredibly strong?

wouldn't it be a step down to compare it to a gorilla?

    -dan

    ReplyDelete
  37. -dan

I think they're talking more about how he moves and uses his strength, not comparing his strength to that of a gorilla. Because there is really no comparasin between a gorrilla and an 80ft tall robot.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This would be kinda cool I suppose. But I simply don't buy it. Those moron writers said No to the Dinobots and I'm sure they also vetoed Soundwave down the line even though they insist he'll be in it every other month. I think we have a better chance of seeing a Sidney Bristow female Decepticon bounty hunter before getsalts start showing up. "They aren't realistic." "Who would buy into a giant robot made of 7 construction vehicles or a talking robot T-Rex for that matter??"

    ReplyDelete
  39. ok, ok, ok....to the kid above talking about the robots being alien life forms....

THE GUY WAS TALKING ABOUT MOVIE SHOOTING SCENES. not the story they are aliens and can move as slow or fast as they want.

from a movie filming stand point, this vehicle would move too slow in the scenes that it wouldn't look right. they got away with making the tank(brawl) move fast down the freeway with the others, but this huge dumptruck won't be able to do that.

So, with that said kid....this might have to be CGI.

that's if it's even in the movie.

  40. unfortunately, michael bay doesnt read these comments, nor do either of the ppl who r makin tf2, so if they were never gonna put long haul or devastator or anyone else we want or r talking about, then they'll probably never consider it either.

you are one of those people that i like to think of as someone who only wants to see huge robots clashing without respecting the original story line. the aerialbots were not created to take down devestator they where made to take down menasor. having devastator fighting superion would be really stupid so i hope the creaters love transformers as much as they say they do so they dont make this mistake.
