Fan Made Bumblebee Costume
In time for Halloween is this cool fan made movie Bumblebee costume from Lionel Lum. He made it specifically for the San Diego Comic Con 2008. The detail and skill is pretty darn sweet and probably good for getting into some Halloween parties. Click the images for larger versions.

ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA AWESOME!!! Thanks man! :) <- Lionel = LionBoogy
ReplyDeleteFantastic, you put a lot of heart into this project and no detail was overlooked!
ReplyDeleteMost Transformer cosplays look vaguely silly. This one looks absolutely wicked. Amazing job!
ReplyDeleteWell, GAWDDAYUMMMMMMMMM!!!!!That is AMAZING!!!! I wonder what he made that costume out of? Anybody know?
ReplyDeleteI wonder what he made that costume out of?
ReplyDeleteIt's made out of foamboard, hobby foam, vinyl signage applique, and is held together with tons of hot glue and some duct tape here and there. It took about 3 months to design and build in time for SDCC2008, which I was in it for about 8 hours straight. It takes about 10 minutes to get into it and about 5 minutes to get out. It's really poseable too!
I plan to rebuild a lot of the underparts for SDCC2009 along with Ironhide and GRIMLOCK. Believe me, you won't miss us! :)
Awesome!
ReplyDeleteHow can the person get in the suit?
That is SWEET. ARE YOU SINGLE???
ReplyDeletecan you go to the bathroom like he does in the movie?
ReplyDeleteWicked cool! Great job with all the details.
ReplyDeletehere lionboogy

This costume is fantastic. I saw it in person at Comicon. The working blue lights really close the deal.
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the way the chest looks in this costume than in the actual movie. The Baytastic design has all those random floating triangles over the upper chest and shoulder areas that are too fussy and hard to look at - especially on this BB wall decal on my son's wall. I feel the same way about this costume as I do the miniature titanium figure I bought of movie bee. Sometimes limitations are a good thing. The basic shapes of a costume like this can be superior design to the overly complex shape vomiting in the final design. My 2 cents.
Great costume.
dude ill pay $1000 for that costume man thats just wicked
ReplyDeleteThose action figures are neat, human size, and human like. Anybody know, when hasbro want to relese them, an their price? Or, will they make human size Optimus? :) Will they be a store exclusive? Wonder how posable the are, and if BBB can transform...
ReplyDeleteLionboogy, did you use foamboard to make the "car" parts? What kind of paint did you use? THAT IS AMAZING!!!! How long did it take you to make it? Is it hard to breathe in that costume, and is the costume heavy and hard to walk in? Looks like you may have used aircraft paint, like I've seen used on some custom-made electric guitars. If that could only transform. . .
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing a movie Optimus Prime costume on youtube that looked just like the movie aesthetic, just like this one. WOW!!!
nice work is this for sell
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the inclusion of the "BEE-OTCH" air freshener hanger thing on the back there, it was one of the little details from the film that was great.
ReplyDeleteno way!!
