First Look at TF2's Ravage and Megatron

"Sylar" has provided the below image that is reported to be the design of beast mode design of Ravage and robot mode of Megatron for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The anonymous source reports that Optimus, Bumblebee, Starscream and Ironhide remain essentially the same.

Ravage's beast mode seems to be a revised draft of the image that was released a little over a month ago that reported that Soundwave's alt mode was a truck (that part denied). As for Megatron, his robot mode does seem to match with the reported tank alt mode.

The image has been photoshopped to increase the size of the original image and remove the background. Pretty bad ass alt mode for Ravage that looks incredibly dangerous. I assume the character would be like Scorpinok. Probably has a robot mode, just doesn’t use it. Megatron looks a lot more compact then his design from the first movie; I wonder where the tank turret went. Click the image for a larger view.

Thanks to "Sylar" for the image.

  1. Well he has the tank treads on his feet. So I still think he's a tank.

i wonder if ratchet is in this movie or not...

  3. Ravage looks pretty sick. That is probably the best Decepticon design so far.

  4. Somehow I can imagine "Alice" being the robot-mode of Ravage. From what I can gather, is that her character is kinda shady: she gets thrown out of Bumblebee, the actress confirmed performing a stunt in which she jumped over a building, and then that weird clip of her walking calmly away from something while everyone around her is running in panic.

It would also fit with the apparent role of Soundwave in the series. Often, his primary mission is to gather valuable information about plans of the Autobots (e.g. as is seen in the 1986) movie, which he does using his cassettes, in that case through Lazerbeak. I mean, what better way to retrieve insight information from a teenage guy who is closely affiliated with your enemy than to disguise yourself as an attractive woman?

I agree, at this point, this is just a gut feeling, but I have been thinking about this for a while now and it seems to fit with what we currently "know" from videos and interviews.

  5. Any chance of seeing the original picture?

  6. "The anonymous source reports that Optimus, Bumblebee, Starscream and Ironhide remain essentially the same."

So I wasn't the only one who noticed that Ratchet wasn't mentioned in 'stays the same' category. Also I guess that means that Barricade isn't the same either. Oh and on the topic of Ravage's beast mode, that's the most badass thing I've ever seen I can't wait for this movie 6-26-09 can't come soon enough!

  7. Ok, just noticed that someone (independently) came up with the same suggestion as I did. For a lengthy discussion on this topic, I will refer too the TFW 2005 movie boards. My appologies. :-)

  8. Hey, Sylar here. Or Anonymous. Or whatever you wanna call me, haha.

-I don't work on the production or even the merchandising products for it. I kinda came across it and quickly stole it and scanned it.

-I photoshopped the background out simply because I didn't want someone from Paramount or something to recognize exactly where this image came from. I (or the company I work for) could have gotten in trouble. Chalk it up to me being super paranoid.

-Ratchet was indeed missing from the original image sheet... but in my opinion, it seemed more like he couldn't fit into the already small image space there was left on this product as opposed to him not being in/being killed in the movie or something like that... But who knows.

-I won't be posting the original picture just because it may be obvious where it was leaked from.

Unless I'm being too paranoid? Do you guys think I could get in legal trouble here?

  9. Megatron and Ravage look sweet, but I'm kinda disappointed to her that the returning bots are going to be the same. I'm a little shocked that Hasbro okayed that one.

  10. Wow!

    Ravage look really deadly.

    Even Megatron look strong/

come on, Bring in Laserbeak, MB

    ReplyDelete
  11. That is amazing. Megatron looks so much better than the first movie's design. Much more like the G1 concept, me likey. And Ravage looks very very cool, I like his teeth and cyclops eye. I want to see more character pics!!!

  12. Sylar, yeah you could get into trouble. Best not to post the original image for your own and your employer's best interests.

I mean, Paramount even went after IDW Publishing (TF comic publishers) when they publicly confirmed the Fallen as the villain in the movie.

    :P

    Both look awesome.

  14. As much as we want more info, it's definitely not worth losing your job over, especially if your job GOT you exclusive access to such. That being said, WOW, I really like Ravage's look. It definitely has the look Skorponok had that I also liked.

Not sure about Megatron, but I do agree with others that this version is much better than the first one. I suppose we'll find out more as time progresses.

The movie has to come out at some point. haha

    ReplyDelete
  15. They both look awesome!!
    Thanks Sylar for finding this!

  16. It looks like a metal hellhound F**KED Alien and had a bastard child. Ravage Is Savage.
AND BTW... All those that laughed at me for saying soundwave should be a satellite can now lick my .... satellite.

  17. Oh Sylar....

    Welcome to Michael Bay's Shitlist.

  18. Ravage to me seems like something you would use to scare someone on halloween

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think Ravage is hideous. Maybe it will fit in the movie but I don't like the monochrome design. Thought the matching colors on both Decepticons makes me wonder if Megatron and Ravage have some kind of relationship like Skorponok and Blackout. I can't make sense of it, but I want to know why they match so well.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ravidge is ok, but his head is all wrong

    ReplyDelete
  21. If that is Ravage, he does his Gen 1 counterpart justice. My only thing is the head, it throws me off a little but none the less, awesome! As far as Megatron, big improvement from the first movie and a plus that he resurrects as a tank. This movie sounds like it will be crankin!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wowsers... Megs is looking kickass... and is that a cannon I see? Although it's kinda stuck where the hand should be... still nicer than the old one =)

Ravage is kickass except for color and the mono-eye... looks like an evangelion... but gotta love the teeth man =D

    ReplyDelete
  23. if only the movie makers had made two eyes for ravage i would have like the panther design. megatron face gets closer to looking like gen one megatron but the hands and feet i don't like and the whole body just looks bulky as if megatron has a full samurai armor on. the helmet on megatron looks kind of samurai as well.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Generally Megs looks great...apart from the 'Frenzy'-arm. Looks a little...shit to me, too weak compared to rest of body. I know the other arm forms his cannon but I just can't stop thinking he'd just overbalance and fall over, Revenge if the Fallen, he gets up, damn it, he's fallen over again!!

    General improvement though.

Ravage-wise, something doesn't quite seem right, think it's the head. It just doesn't look mechanical enough, reminds me of an alien cartoon character somewhere that I can't quite remember. Think I'm still a little skeptical bout needing Ravage in the film. I understood Skorpinok's appearance but I'd rather them concentrate on the 'big bots' battle'. Then again...he is G1!

It makes sense not changing Prime, BB, etc... Hasbro would just be accused of extortion. I get the feeling Ratchet might get wasted pretty early on to pave the way for more bots, No sacrifice no victory n all...I can live with that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Though here's told that Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide and Starscream have same robot modes than in first movie, but I'm sure that Ratchet has too. His alternate mode is still same. How it could be different? By the way, that photo proved it previous concept art of Soundwave and Ravage is nearly real. I mean nearly that though Ravage has same beast mode, but Soundwave's Earth mode is not surely Chevrolet Silverado.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let's be brutally honest and stop all the kissing up. Ravage's head looks retarded. It does not look anything like the original. It does not look like a panther. It looks like another complicated mess that Michael Bay thinks is an improvement on the G1 styled designs. Mr Bay, if it aint broke, don't fix it! Ravage should look more reminiscent of the original. He doesn;t have to look the same. The body is OK. But at least make the characters as an homage to the original G1s in their appearance. One eye? How stupid. Is this a cheap last minute replacement for Shockwave?

    ReplyDelete
  27. As a hardcore TF collector and long time fan, I'm going to be brutally honest here, too.

    I don't like the G1 style. I really don't.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ravage's head looks awesome! in fact I think he shouldn't have been so much of a panther at all! sure, that's what he was in G1 but we all need to grow up. I loved the original series and movie but all that in a movie would've been LAME! I even think scorponok should've been something else.. no earth-like animals at all! :S looks childish. so i think the cyclopes ravage was a smart move and the fact that his body is a cat, is just out of respect.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "ravidge is ok, but his head is all wrong"

Maybe that's because your thinking of "ravidge" and not "Ravage".......

  30. hey guys...don't know if any of you noticed this....but look at MEgs.....it looks lyk he as parts of Jazz on him...look closely at his knecap, legs, sholders and arms.......something tells me he uses of wuts left of jazz to survive

    juz a theory anyway...wut do u think?

    ReplyDelete
  31. So Sylar says there were images of Prime, Ironhide, Bumblebee and Starscream there as well?

Will he/she post those as well? I doubt they'll be the same stock images from the first one...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ralys(Sylar), THANKS for posting these. But I'll say this: in this age of layoffs and firings left-and-right (in correspondence with the F@#$%!-UP economy) it is best you keep a LOW profile. Feeding Fan's hunger IS NOT WORTH losing your job over, especially now.

Here's my two cents: Ravage looks like he was designed by H.R. Geiger, and I have to admit, while I LIKE THE BODY (I like H.R. Geiger's ALIEN designs for the most part), I DON'T like the one-eye deal on his head. To me, it's like half-assing and half-stepping on the design. Then again, if the news about Ravage being a Pretender with the Alice shell is true, maybe the one-eye serves a significant purpose outside of just sight. I also wished that Ravage was some other color. If Ravage is the black missile that shoots out of Soundwave's Cybertron satellite form, then how and WHY the hell does his color change when he gains his earthmode? On to Megs: yes, I'll agree that it appears that he has some of Jazz's parts on him (Shame on Ratchet and Optimus for not trying to fix him!!!!!), and he does look BULKY AS HELL. I mean, if they come out with the toy version of this, will he even be able to stand balanced with that big-ass cannon monstrosity on his right arm?

Maybe I'm prejudging. We'll see - and I still maintain my stance that we may not see a trailer on 12/12/08 with TDTESS. We'll see. And again, if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong, and will admit it. I'm cautiously optimistic. Later.

  33. Am I the only one who thinks that the movie characters ought to be designed to look more reminiscent of the G1 originals?

Do we now prefer super complicated "faces" to the more human styled faces?

Do we abandon feet and hands for insect and reptile styled feet and hands?

Do we now embrace the super complicated messy Michael Bay transformation style?

Do we enjoy the close up shots of Prime transforming for five whole minutes straight or do we want quicker, more discernable transformations?

Is Megatron's hand made of wires and sticks better than the G1 Meg's strong hands and traditional face?

    ReplyDelete
  34. megatron was destroyed! he was rebuilt! what's with u people? :S he's perfect.. damaged and asymmetrical.. back for revenge. and eli.. with all due respect :) grow up :) a g1 based movie wouldve been awful! the cartoons were kickass.. NOT movie materiel!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Is anyone else bothered by the huge erection on megs? It's killing me. Wtf...?

Other than that everything looks good. Ravage too.

    ReplyDelete
  36. to eli...

Yes we do. Sorry, that you don't.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sorry Eli, but they're not humans, nor are they supposed to look like they were built by humans. Why do they, as an alien species, have to look like anything on Earth when not in their Earth modes? I would be hard pressed to believe they came from some far corner of the galaxy if they looked like Tony Stark's Mark I suit.

And will people stop bitching about Ravage's head? He's not a cat, you dumbfucks, he's an alien too. Why should he have two eyes?

    ReplyDelete
  38. One reason why he's got to have two eyes - 'because Geewun Ravage had two eyez!' (end whining)

Seriously, these look awesome - the Decepticons are meant to be terrifying, and if this Ravage truly is armed with bioweapons as we've been led to believe, then he is going to put the fear of all things Con' into me!

And Megatron is just so...MEGATRON! Hope Hugo Weaving gets more scenery to chew on - he had a great voice that was really underused in the first film.

  39. So I clicked the link with the pic of Ravage and Truck mode Soundwave that was posted back in October.

Did anyone else notice that the pic of soundwave matches that of the preview figure that has been showing up latetely online? The hands, the head, the 3 blue bulbs on his chest, etc. And it was released wayyy back in October.

That pic looks like robot mode of the cybertronian satellite preview figure in earth-alt mode.
    Have a look for yourself...
    mmmmmmmm

  40. I like both designs. Is everyone going to be completely happy with them? Of course not. Like some of the other posters, I think Megatron's left arm is a bit too wiry. But overall, I'd give both designs a thumbs-up, especially Ravage. I'd be scared sh*tless if I ran into that in a dark alley, and that's a good thing.

Some of us here just need to calm down a bit. I'm a huge G1 fan, but if I wanted to relive that era, I'd pop in my DVDs. Staying exactly true to G1 would not work in a live-action movie. If a semi-truck could actually transform into a giant robot, it would take more than four moving parts. Same goes for fighter jets and sports cars. The complex transformations adds a necessary level of realism to what was originally a cartoon aimed at six-year-olds. And if the new designs and transformations bother you so much, stay at home when the movie comes out.

    ReplyDelete
  41. ok ravage looks almost identical to the leaked images of him and soundwave as the truck...everyone back then complained and cryed how much they hated it and its not ravage and fuck michael bay, and now that its a comfirmed pic with a few changes eg, more spikes and a dif tail everyone loves it..gimme a break people..and to everyone that thinks prime and bb and ironhide should change can i ask one thing why would they change they arent destroyed like megs was there is no reason to change, did any of them change in the G1 days prime was the same from episode 1 all the way to the rebirth...come on people lets use that thing we all have, well most of us its called a brain...we complained when soundwave wasnt in the movie well now we got him and its not good enough now he has to look more like G1, complain complain complain thats all these boards are for i think either that or 95% of people just arent happy unless they are bitching...I for one am glad and exstatic that someone finally had the balls to make the fucking movies...i cant thank spielberg, bay and paramount enough...grow up people if its all so horrible than dont watch it oh wait you will watch it you need more stuff to bitch and complain about...and i believe frank welker will be doing the voice of megatron this time around since he was so damaged in battle his voice sensores like BB were damaged, hence the smaller left arm never was fully repaired...

  42. I'm guessing most people that are dissapointed that some of the characters haven't changed for the new movie probably grew up with beast wars and all series after. These people are used to the characters getting upgrades for each new season.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Eli stop being such a geewuner, there is no reason why the transformers should resemble their G1 counterparts, at least Ravage sort of looks like G1 Ravage in the sense both are quadrupedal beasts but like Pilot said he's an alien why should he look like an Earth cougar?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Ravage looks sick! I dunno u but Megatron look scary and pissed off.. Hope this movie is like empires strike back, where the baddies kick the good guys butt

    ReplyDelete
  45. Eli, I think I speak for the majority's sanity when I tell you to stick a cork in it. We all knew that this movie is not an adaptation of the G1 series since we all saw the concepts for the last film, and let's face facts: what worked in the 80's in terms of design does NOT work in a modern huge-budget film. If the 80's designs did work in live action, Power Rangers would have been so much more popular among all age groups.

Look, coming from a concept artist, (or even from a logical standpoint) it makes sense to make an alien species look alien. The G1 characters had human faces. How is that extraterrestrial? The robots here actually look like they come from another planet and yes, the complexity of their bodies and transformations only adds to that.

On complexity, Eli: yes, we do expect that if we're shifting from traditional animation to high-budget CGI, that the transformations will be complex and mind-blowing. The reason they kept them simple for the 80's series is because it was hand-drawn and done with a very low-budget. If you've got the opportunity to do something BETTER, why not shoot for it?

And my final point: RAVAGE'S TOY HAD NO JOINTS. How are we supposed to believe that this movie-verse earth is in legitimate danger from a superior race of robotic shape-shifters if their own attack animals are flimsy and jointless, with no articulation? In fact, most of the toys lacked the articulation and anatomy to make them work flawlessly in a movie. I've seen G1 Prime in CGI. His boxy shoulders keep sinking into his cab. It's laughable. The original Ravage toy was laughable. If you were to create a CGI version of the original Ravage to run around a city (until it teeters over because it's a thin peice of crap), the audience would laugh their way out of a theater, or worse, they'd demand a refund. Movie Ravage is terrifying, and you can feel as though anyone in its path is in imminent danger.

YOU CANNOT SERIOUSLY TRANSLATE THE GENERATION 1 DESIGNS INTO CGI FOR A FILM LIKE THIS.

Read it again: CANNOT MAKE IT WORK.

One of the only things Bay did right for this film, if anything, was giving them all a fresh new look. If you take that away, you've got a shitty script, shitty acting and shitty alien robots.

    ReplyDelete
  46. awe man, I hope they add another eye on Ravage. One eye=eyedol, not ravage.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Like everybody else, I like Ravage's design (minus the one-eyed head). I hear a couple of people like the design because it looks like influences from Scorponok were used. Speaking of Scorponok, I did some research online, and could not find anything about him showing up in Revenge of the Fallen. I know Scorponok and Barricade weren't killed in the movie, but I hear Barricade is coming back; does anyone know where Scorponok crawled off to after he lost his tail, and when he is coming back in the movie (beginning, middle, end) if he is coming back at all. Wikipedia does not list him as one of the Decepticons.

If anyone knows something, please post it on this forum; the suspense is killing me. I missed those rockets he shot off; I want to see them again, except this time in a city environment. Does anybody feel the same way?

    ReplyDelete
  48. To above post To my theory Scorponok maybe dead or used in the film to revive Megatron with it's Allspark.

    ReplyDelete
  49. In the Transformers Titans magazine which might not be canon, he was destroyed by a special ops team and Ironhide, but then like I said, it might not be canon

  50. I have a new nickname for G1 purists who refuse to accept more polygons into their aging brain cells.

    Gee-Whiner.

Because that's pretty much all I hear. Change is coming, folks, whether you like it or not. You either accept it and evolve, or perish like the dinosaurs.

  51. And of course there'll be Lame-Whiners like you who'd complain bout G1 fans defending their beloved show

    ReplyDelete
  52. I have seen several peoples comments mention that Ravage has only "one eye"... Maybe I am looking too closely at the picture, but if you look at the increased image, he actually appears to have a normal, gray colored, eye set back closer to his antenna. I would infer this to mean he would have a like feature on the other side of his head... Thus, two eyes. I believe the orange thing that you are seeing is the nostril cavity and is likely some weapons area, or just general decoration.

As for Megs... Awsome body, but the anemic arm leaves something to be desired (Perhaps this is megs in a state of repoar, and all features are not fully implemented. It could be that the "frenzy" arm is just wires and bits looking for connection to a more functioning appendage).

    ReplyDelete
  53. "And of course there'll be Lame-Whiners like you who'd complain bout G1 fans defending their beloved show"

Defend it all you want, i don't care. But WHY THE F*** can't you understand, that not everything must be like G1? You like G1? Than go watch G1 you idiot instead of talking "evRYThing ShoULd be LIKe geeWUN!" and "theYRE rapING my chiLDhood! with this movie".

I like BW, and you know what? I don't complain like geewuners (like you), that Prime is a trukk not munkyy.

  56. I agree, it does appear Ravage has a second eye in a more 'normal' position thus suggesting another eye on other side of head and the central orange not being an eye. That could in fact be replaced by the Decepticon insignia, or a weapon as you put it.

Well, it seems Megatron is definately a dude, no doubt about that!! He could at least put a towel on, dude come on!!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Now i am a huge transformers fan and i like these desings very much. Ravage looks like a very furious and light weight like any other cat like thing. While Megatron is more bulky and powerful looking the last time.I just thought of something will ravage launch out of soundwave like scorponok launch out of Blackout. Because scorponok had bits of pecies of blackouts altmode. So if ravage does this to mabey we can have some hints as to what soundwaves altmode is. But it is just a theroy.

  58. I read these blogs here and at other sites all the time. I am typically content to read, and enjoy. Rarely do I find reason to post.

However, this whole "G1 was better," "Beast Wars rules," "they have bastardized my childhood," argument is getting old.

If you are a true G1 fan, you are likely about my age (I am 34 - yes this is a generalization, I realize there are some "newer G1 fans out there). I loved G1. I own the whole series on DVD, collected all the comics, own quite a few G1 toys to this day, etc. I also loved Beast Wars, Unicron Trilogy, and Animated.

As I was saying, if you're about my age, lets stop looking at this through the rose tint, and take it for what it is.... a business. Hasbro tried to change up G1 (season 3 anyone) which resulted in some cool (and some lame) new toys, some interesting developments to the mythos, and a rather lackluster 3rd season. They miled the cash cow until her nipples fell off.

I think Bay and company have made a few decent nods to the old school crowd, but it was never intended to be G1 repeated (I for one would love to see Hasbro take the first couple of seasons, drop the animation, and re-release it in a 3D cgi format with some audio tweaks).

The same can be said to the new animated show, which has nodded ridiculously to G1 and even to Beast wars (and next season, som nods to Unicron trilogy).

Our childhood is not coming back folks. It cannot, because we have been there and done that. Yes there is money there, which is why Takara continues to milk it overseas, but not enough to warrant the cost on a large scale such as Hasbro.

Instead of flaming each other about what sucks, lets look at how each generation has molded into the next creating a juggernaught franchise which was on life support for a couple of years prior to this movie coming around.

Lets be thanksful that Hasbro has acknowledged us with nods in the various TF media, and by creating new toy tributes to the classics we loved.

Sorry.... Didn't realize how long my rant had become. My whole point was let's stop retreading the past, and look at how we can better contribute to the future. Sadly I will never own a Fortress Maximus or a mint condition G1 Devestator - but perhaps we can keep giving POSITIVE feedback, and criticism where necessary so that Maybe we'll see a re-release from Hasbro, a nice tribute, or a few good nods in the next movie/series.

  59. Just like TF animated, beast wars, armada, universe, unicron, etc... the movie reinvented the original franchise. We didn't whinge bout Prime being a fire truck, or Prowl being a bike, so why us everyone gettin so hot under the collar about changes in the film??

The movie is NOT a G1 movie, it is a Transformers movie so are entitled to use whichever aspect they want. I for one am not whinging and an still chuffed they're even doing the movies in the first place.

Something I've just noticed, look at the Soundwave concept art. Now compare it to the satellite toy images we've seen. To start, the head is the same, the hands are identical, and the chest/torso consists of the same parts, I.e. stomach-based grille, chest bulbs. It seems that all the integral elements that WOULDNT change when adapting an earth form have stayed the same from cybertron mode to earth mode. This, to me, suggests the truck mode could well be Soundwave's true earth mode. Ravage may well then be able to 'eject' from Soundwave as a nod to G1 (just like the film(s) will be filled with nods to other franchises of TF.

    What would Prime say??

    'Til all are one!!

  61. Shit, now that is RAW! Ravage looks fast, agile and AWESOME! Witwicky is gonna have to haul ass! I like the mono-eye it looks like some sort of lazer. The head is cool along with the "whiskers". Has anyone taken note of his tail? I looks like one of those sci-fi alien needles. HINT-HINT: Bio-Weapon? I don't think that Ravage would be suitable as a pretender considering how small he'd have to be. Frenzy could be Alice, with Ravage on standby relaying info to Soundwave. And I sincerely hope Soundwave isn't as small as that toy. How could Soundwave be as tall as Bumblebee!? I'd expect Soundwave to be as tall as Starscream. Megatron looks awesome too (not as awesome as Ravage though). The right hand looks like a claw with a cannon in the middle. Finally he won't have to combine his hands for his fusion cannon. Let's hope the trailer comes with Stood-Still.

    ReplyDelete
  62. As much as I don't like Beast Wars itself, I DO like the nod to Beast Wars with Skorpinok. So it certainly looks like Ravage is doing that as well, following the same beast design elements and moving away from 1980's cassette.

Which makes me somewhat BELIEVE that Frenzy and Ravage actually both came from Soundwave. It appears that Frenzy ejects from Barricade, but I'm not too inclined to believe that since Frenzy can adapt to anything he attaches himself to.

I mean, c'mon, they're like... ALIEN ROBOTS. haha

  63. I've been a TF fan since episode 1 of G1 back in 1984. I love look the robots on the big screen. The transformations are fantastic and the faces are great, too. They're able to emote the way the G1 cartoon characters could in a much more believeable way.

That said, the story of the first movie was pretty forgettable, and I'm betting the new story is going to be as well. These are Michael Bay popcorn movies. But there's nothing wrong with the movie robot designs. Especially Optimus Prime. Why would anyone want his design changed in this movie?

  65. I'm sorry, but i don't think that red thing is an eye. It must be for something else. Ravage has two cat like eyes on the side of its head. They are dark black. Look at the image again.

Now with that said, that head design is horrible. It doesn't have enough separate pieces to. And the teeth are too much like teeth in design. All of the transformers in the first movie had all kinds of moving parts in their mouths, not teeth. And I don't think this Ravage design needs ears.

I don't understand why Megatron doesn't take on a vehicle or earth based weapon form in the movies. If he becomes a tank, make him a military tank, not some funky made up tank design. But his new look is great even with that personal gripe.

  66. One possibility not yet ventured might be that Ravage is a reformatted version of Skorpinok. The design theme and 'tail' is very similar to Skorpinok, i.e. dagger with shooting prong. I doubt Bay and co. would want to make the 'Cons look too much like animal loving droids all the while hating part of their own species.

'Cos of this I doubt both Ravage and Skorpinok will feature in the film (besides one becoming the other).

Like the Autobots in TF1, the Cons do need some smaller beings within their ranks, I mean how could it be a fair fight if all were Starscream & Megatron's size while the Autobots, such as Bublebee and Jazz, could literally be torn apart at the waist. Some smaller 'Cons would even the odds a little then someone like Jetfire (I hope rather than Skyfire) should be rpesent to strike fear and/or threat in to the 'Cons.

Needs to be a fair fight this time.

Yeah, i somethimes see things that aren't there to.

No, can somone tell me, what's wrong, with Ravege been a cyclop, other than that "he wasn't in G1"?

  68. Go look back at the older picture where it shows soundwave's alt forms as well...

In the satellite form, it looks like he's shooting off two pods... Obviously, one of them is ravage, what could the other one be? Lazerbeak? Rumble? I'd like to think it's Lazerbeak because the small transformer that was used on top of the car had some bird-like features.

And I have one last thing to say about the usual "TRUKK, NOT MUNKY" bawfest: Optimus Primal WAS NOT OPTIMUS PRIME, NOR WAS HE EVER*. HE IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CHARACTER WHO TOOK HIS NAME. Prime is a truck, and Primal is a gorilla/mechanical gorilla/triplechanger, thank you very much.

*Okay, so maybe he was for an -episode-.

Gee, thanks for telling me something i know, and waisting my time. Sorry you didn't understand me. I know that Primal is no Prime. But geewuners, that hate changes still couldn't accept that someone with a name "Optimus" is munky, not trukk. And now, they can't accept that Ravege maybe is a cyclop, and Prime has flames. Now you see what i am talking about? I just accept this changes. Sorry, that there are peoples, that can't.

Second I hate the panther look ESPECIALLY the head but (and my memory's faded on this one) laser beak ravage and forget the last on are all components of SOUNDWAVE (who by the way i missed dearly from the first movie) and PLEASE MR.BAY we know you're stubborn and hard headed but may we please have DEVASTATOR make and appearance.... BTW STARSCREAM STAYS THE SAME/ RATCHET STAYS THE SAME/ IRONHIDE STAYS THE SAME/ PRIME STAYS THE SAME (please give us MAGNUS PRIME)and when i get the see the story board ill let you know what other info i manage to sneak out

  77. I consider this new transformers series a form of plagiarism. They should have just called the movie something else. Just because a few characters resemble the Gen1 Transformers and have the same name does not make this the Transformers. Sure make them a little different for live action. But all the Decepticons look like a heap of silver. I can't tell a head from an ass in that whole mix. Michael Bay's design department sucks and they offend true Transformers fans with this crap. Ravage, a one-eyed anus sniffer, give me a break. This movie should have been called Gobots because that is the subpar quality it reflects.

  79. First of all, to some of the rude responses I got from my last comment I say:
    Get a life.
    Be nice.
Get over it, other people have different views.
Quit acting like you are somehow better than me just because you disagree with my opinion.

Now that that is said, I want to clarify that it would indeed look quite silly to have the G1 designs in the movies exactly like the old cartoon and/or toys. I am only offering that I would feel that Mike Bay would be more faithful to the genre to re-design the robots in such a way that they more faithfully just resembled their G1 counterparts. This does not at all mean a simple exactness. I can easily imagine Jazz, for example, in the new movie style's complexity with a face that resembled the G1 face more, but not an exact replication of it. A mouthy looking mouth (like Prime's new one) would have been better than the lamprey looking thing on his face. I can easily imagine Jazz's feet looking more G1 foot shaped and yet retaining the practical styled complexity of the new "foot" designs.

I can easily imagine a Prime with a body shape and transformation that was more reminiscent of the G1 style and yet retaining the new amount of complexity of transformation.

Why not retain a little more solid structured body parts? Having a complex transformation that restructures the body shape into having more whole solid parts would not be impossible for the TFs to accomplish. Having so many exposed moving parts is a weakness anyhow, That is why animals have muscle and skin covering our skelital stucture. Even insects which have an exoskeleton don't have an exess of moving parts exposed.

As for Ravage. It would be silly to see the G1 recreated, we all know that. But it would not be silly to see a black ravage with a more panther looking head on the new movie one. The panther's head is a product of designed precision (whether a product of evolution or of creation). If Ravage is going to done in the design of a panther, which he is, why not keep the menacing head of a panther? That would look so cool being desingned in the new movie stylization. The one eye bit was almost never used in nature's animals for good reason. Plus, one eye still looks stupid on a cat. Keep one eye for Shockwave.

As for the new "hands" being replaced with all sorts of other designs of "hands," I think that the G1 concept of transformable hands would be even better. Why not have, for instance, Jazz's hand(s), more like Prime's hand and be able to transform or slide in and back out into a different shape like a tool or weapon? That would be better than the strange "hands" that Bay put onto Megs, Jazz and others.

I love the big bulky style of Megs in G1. Why not have the new Megs more solid and bulky instead of this super complicated, wirey "mess" that he is in the new movies? It would be awesome to see Megs raise his big fist in defiance instead of his stork foot hand. It would be cool to see Meg's face resemble the G1 face at least a little bit.

  81. sympathize with parkerthecamel.

The new movie is a totally overdone makeover of the TFs to the point of being an almost completely different Transformers. It would more accurately be titled "Loosely based upon and inspired by the Transformers." I do enjoy the new story, to be sure. But lets admit that it departs quite a bit from most of the established TF continuities' common history. Mike Bay shouldn't be expected to recreate the G1 story with exactness. But I for one would rather have more semblance to the old stories than the radical departure Bay has taken. Would it not be cool to have new versions of the Ark and the Nemesis? Would it not be awesome to have the TFs buried in hibernation of some sort for millennia? In the new movie, Megs was in a sort of cryogenics, trapped on earth for millennia. This was a direct rip off from the original G1 plot.

    ReplyDelete
  82. eli... Right now, there are more than 5 series of TF, so please, tell me, why the movie should be based on G1? Because... You like it best? Maybe i wan't it based on BW? Or RiD?

Or do you want to say, that every series that came out AFTER G1 is just "Loosely based upon and inspired by the Transformers."? Movie is just another series of toys, and it's natural, that it look diferent. Everything can't be G1 forever. Just accpet that and stop complain like a baby.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Again, with the immature name calling...

The movie should be based off of G1 (as it loosely is) because G1 WAS THE CLASSIC SERIES THAT STARTED IT ALL, LAID THE FOUNDATION AND MADE TRANSFORMERS FAMOUS ICONS. That's why. G1's success is what all the other series are trying to recapture. Who (besides a few TF geeks) really cares about TF Energon or TF RID? They were gay for the most part. Ever notice how it is Unicron so many series borrows? He is from G1 fame and lore. How about Optimus Prime as a red Truck so often? That is G1. Ever notice Megatron usually has a big gun on him so often? That is G1. How about the success of the new Universe line? It is the fame of G1 being revisited. Why did Beast Wars refer to G1 so much? Why have Sam in the new movie? It is a take off from G1's Spike. I could go on but if you honestly don't get it it is because you don't want to or your just as stupid as Snarl on Quintessian Queludes. LOL.

For you maybe it's a good point. For me it doesn't matter. This movie rating is PG-13. Tell me now, how many 13 year old kids will care about G1 references? It's not a movie for hardcore G1 fans, who want to see a nodding to their side in evry scene, it's a movie for everyone. And BTW, isn't Optimus Prime voice actor big enough nod to the fans of G1? Stop living in the past. Evry series brings something new to the TF universe, it wouldn't be good for them to stop in place.

(BTW, sorry for my english, i know that my post can be hard to read sometimes xP)

Having said all that I am going to say about my critisisms of the Bay style as opposedt something a little more reminiscent of the G1 style, I do enjoy the movie and I look forward to the next one. I may be a fellow Transformer nerd with many of you here (and with those who are still in denial who think they have more of a life than any other TF nerd), but I don't understand all the harshness going around here. Transformers are cool. Don;t get all worked up about it. Enjoy it. Its OK to be a little disappointed by Bay's rendition. Its just entertainment so take slurp down some energon, relax and enjoy being a proud Transformer nerd, like the rest of us.

  91. Hi Mbay!

Glad you joined us here. SInce this is aboviously the most important blog in the world for you (LOL), how about some Q & A?

First Q: When is the trailor coming out?

    ReplyDelete
  92. The new Ravage design should have two separate eyes, and should have some of those spikes trimmed off to make him more sleek and sinister. After all, he's meant for espionage and stealth, not hardcore frontline battle. Save the spikes and "bad-ass" design for another TF that is meant to get down and dirty with the Autobots. Ravage's design should illustrate and highlight his purpose: to get into and out of places without being detected, and for fast getaways when he is discovered.

As for Megatron, I like where the design is heading but I still think he should be more solid and brutal looking. I liked the G1 concept of him having the menacing cannon on his arm, and I would like to see that included somehow. It was like a mantle of leadership and reminder to every TF around him of his power. All he had to do was point at you and BAM... you were done.

As for the previous posts on this website, I agree with many of eli's points and believe they are well thought out. I don't like that these highly-advanced robots have all of their critical gears so obviously exposed and believe that any advanced machine would do its best to shield such important parts. The exposed design detracts from the image of battle-ready machines.

However, I do appreciate the attempt to modernize. I agree with the idea (but certainly not the rude manner of delivery) in many of the posts on here that it can't be a blatant carbon copy of the animated series. It wouldn't work. But I do think it would add to, not harm, the movies if the designs were to be pulled back a bit from weird and extra-terrestrial to something more recognizable. Particularly the Autobots. After all, think of human psychology... we would be friendlier and more accepting of alien beings that closely resembled us, than of creatures that are very foreign in design.
