Update: This is officially debunked by Nelson as the quote mentioned below did not come from him.Yesterday the admin for MB.com, Nelson, verified the group name of the Nascar vehicles (The Wreckers) and revealed that the alt mode of "Einstein" is the blue Mercedes seen in Chicago with the other Transformers vehicles. At the time, he also corrected everyone that the Mercedes Benz is an E550, not E350 and linked to his picture of the car. Same pic I used for the post yesterday (and now today). However, I do not recall seeing the photo title of "Mercedes E550 "Q" on the set Transformers 3 in Chicago, Il" Not saying it was added later, just that didn't pay enough attention to remember if one was there or not. Main point is the title tells us the name of the character is simply "Q".
Could this be a reference to the omniscient god-like character from Star Trek: The Next Generation? Or the legendary Q (for Quartermaster) from the James Bond films that supplied him with all his gadgets along with sage advice as most memorably played by the late great Desmond Llewelyn? According to TFW2005, it is the latter as they posted "His name is "Q." Like in James Bond. -Nelson-” I wasn't able to find where the quote came from (guess via an email) but the flickr account is Nelson's so that verifies the Q name and I don't see Michael Bay (who ultimately approves the names assuming they clear legal) being much of a Star Trek fan so a James Bond homage is likely. I guess Wheeljack didn't get Bay's approval or legal's (Hasbro sadly allowed a lot of their G1 trademarks to lapse and couldn't retrieve all of them) as he was essentially the quartermaster of the Autobots in the G1 cartoons. ReplyDeleteWell if Wheeljack and Mirage are not used for that one, can it be applyed to the Wreckers? The green/white one already looks like Wheeljack even with that wedge shaped form. Mirage being the silver/blue one almost a half formula one and half nascar. The red one not sure, it may get killed off at some point. Yet another Star Trek reference. Redshirt and target. This is still wild guesses.

TF3 concept art? Stuffs in french so can't understand too much. The first picture to me looks like a new version of the Space bridge from G1 days. I know some of these pictures have been up before. Maybe some are new. If new post, if not sorry for repeating old news.

ReplyDeleteThat head design is pretty good. Looks better than the Einstein bot, if that truly is intended to be Wheeljack.
I'd just make the head fins a little wider so they don't get lost and the light bar things a tad bigger and centered more vertically on the sides of his head. Otherwise, pretty sweet!
If only there was a way to get this idea to bay, maybe someone could try to show it to Nelson..
What about the character 'Hi-Q'? He was a G1 science officer which fit's the set photo of his face.

One problem with the "Hi-Q" theory... That would mean that there is a Human/nebulon in side it. 'HiQ' was not a robot but a humanoid scientist and wore a suit that changed, much like spike and his exo-suit.

ReplyDeleteWith the exception of Mudflap, Skids and Jot, Bay seems to be incorporating the Transformers that were crucial in the story plot of War For Cybetron. Einsteins glasses, aka "Q", has me thinking this is really Alpha Trion.
