Entertainment Tonight has posted their article of video of the behind the scenes report from the Chicago set of Transformers 3. The video includes set footage, explosions and the sales pitch of the movie from Michael Bay, Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Tyrese Gibson, and Josh Duhamel. Pretty much no spoilers are revealed but the title does drop a "the" with official title being "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" which oddly enough does make a difference. If want to get a little meta, thanks to Colin Hinkle for the picture of behind the scenes of ET filming behind the scenes of TF:DOTM with Samantha Harris in the yellow dress. "I think what we were lacking in the second movie was heart," says Shia about the last installment of the blockbuster franchise, 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.' "But, I think with the addition of Rosie and new characters … you still have the magic of the first film, but you have depth in the ending of the third."
"Sam's coming out of heartbreak," explains Shia about the film's emotional center. "He's looking for a rock. He's looking for stability. He's looking for a person who doesn't love him because of his involvement in the wars, or because of his involvement with the robots. … And, so he's looking to define himself and find a person who understands the definition and loves him for him, and he finds it in Rosie."
"The story, I think, is really rich," says Michael. "This is kind of a good old fashioned, kinda espionage 'Transformers' movie." He adds, "I just told Mayor Daley that I'm sorry about messing up his city."
The addition of Rosie topmodel is not going to add any heart. The second movie was not lacking heart for sure, it's lacking scenes like the Sam and Mikaela meeting Autobots for the first time.. that is what is really missing there, that feeling. Adding a new love interest for Sam Witwicky doesn't make any sense, it wasn't needed and it's going to look just plain silly and bad writing. Very bad movie. No new girlfriend and focused on Sam and his parents would have worked perfectly, this is not going to work at all.
Clearly you can tell Shia so far is happy with the movie and you see than this movie will take a huge change witch is good from the second one and I hope and I kind of sure of what we gonna see next year is a very good movie.

Now based on what I have seen from the DC shoot and some up close footage of the NEST team....I am starting to think that the Chicago sky jump scenes will be actually standing in for DC as that is where the final battle will take place. I don't think DC gave permission for Bay to do a sky diving scene so he did it in Chicago.
Does anybody else think that maybe they weren't referring to Mikaela specifically when he says that he's not looking for somebody who's interested in him because of the wars. Maybe that is a reference to people that have come in between his break up and meeting Rosie? That's how I took it. That he has this new found celebrity because the world now knows about the Transformers and that he's looking for somebody that cares about him for reasons other than that. I didn't take it as a dig on Mikaela's character at all.

Megan Fox was a terrible actress. I'm glad she is gone. I don't enjoy the Transformers movies for her, but rather the CGI transformers and action scenes. That's all that matters. If you want a love story, go watch a chick flick.

Who cares about the love story? Honestly, in both films (especially the second) the love story was complete shit. I actually laughed at how bad it was written in ROTF. All I want is to see giant-fucking-robots beating the shit out of each other.
The action scenes will matter even if the story isnt that good. The action scenes in revenge of the fallen were pure fail, apart from the forest fight (which doesnt even make sence anyway). Im not saying rosies story is going to be amazing but mikelas story was fucking shit anyway. The good thing about movie 1 was the fight scenes. There was nothing good about movie 2. Hopefully movie 3 will at least have good fight scenes. I know carly wont be the best thing ever but shell be just as good as mikela. Those answering like you and attacking people clearly can't grasp characters and plot and go around insulting viewers/fans and telling that only robots matter... Not even in the anime G1 and manga it was just robots fighting, it was cheesy at times and it's outdated but main characters development was very important. And on the movies Sam and Mikaela characters and their love story is the main focus and the device used to let viewers know about Transformers thru their eyes. Bumblebee helping Sam to meet Mikaela... Bumblebee protecting Mikaela... Mikaela helping Bumblebee... that was what turned the first two movies into a success.. the bond between Sam and Mikaela thanks to Autobots and thru the war against Decepticons. Now they are going to cancel all of that in the worst possible way with some silly pathetic comedy joke and give Sam a new love girlfriend telling that it's the Carly character from G1 series.. The fact is that Mikaela character was made to be the Carly of the movie verse and trying to change that it's just plain wrong and it's not going to work. The Rosie topmodel is not hot either and that adds to the bad writing ... They should have left Sam Witwicky alone.. he will become a jerk and people will dislike him, all the sympathy for the character will be lost and whatever insults or jokes they might come up with against Mikaela character trying to delete the actress that got fired from general public mind is simply going to make things worse.

I take it as: Sam and Mikaela broke up. In the time after that Sam was looking for someone who could love him for who he is and not his heroic status. They're not saying at all that Mikaela only liked him because of his involvement with the robots.
I'm going to watch the movie regardless of how bad or good the plot is. I'm in it for the fight scenes and the Transformers themselves. As long as they have epic fight scenes, the same personalities, and same voice actors, I'm not going to care much about any romance crap. And I'm a girl :o)
Remember, Mikaela was a teenager when she told Sam she loved him. How many teenage girls tell their boyfriends they love them but end up breaking up later? Girls change a LOT between 18 and 25. They were teenagers in the first 2 movies and now they are adults. People change. It's not that far fetched an idea.
I personally think we should wait and see before we make any comments about the third story.. Look when the drawings were leaked of Optimus Prime and everyone said that michael bay ruined him from what he was originally but then once you all seen the movie you realized how much hard work michael had put into making the best transformers ever.. I dont agree with Mikaela not being in this movie and think that love story wont work for me but im willing to wait and see.. I also believe they haven't given us enough time or reason to love rosie's character and it will be weird to see sam with another woman.. But I am not going to judge until I have seen the movie.. Plus all I really love is bumblebee and sams bond so as long as thats still there.. I'm a girl to and I love the action scenes but it has to all tie together doesnt it now, you cant just put explosions and fight scenes in and hope for the best.. I do laugh at what some of you say because they are just movies for our entertainment so we should be happy that they are even doing another movie...
There's a lot of character and story driven films that I watch and Transformers isn't one of them. If you watch Bay films for story or character development, then you're looking in the wrong place. The characters for Transformers are WEAK, and undeveloped. The story for the first film had many plot holes in it, and ROTF doubled those holes.
Bay makes ACTION films, not serious movies. Meaning you turn off your brain and watch the explosions. That's the kind of films Bay makes.
The bond between Mikeala and Sam? What bond? If you think the love story in Transformers and Transformers 2 is well written, then you know nothing about love.
In ROTF, Sam couldn't even tell Mikaela he loved her after 2 YEARS. If you're with a girl for that long, and can't tell her your true feelings, then A) She's gonna dump your ass or B) That means you really don't love her. I was with my girl for less than a year before I KNEW I loved her.
Maybe that's the reason why Megan ran out of Bay's office angry(it's never been confirmed why Fox was dropped), cause the plot for the third film was maybe already decided when they decided to do a trilogy. And Bay and co. knew way before doing the 3rd that Megan had to leave and the cast didn't. The script rewriting thing could be a part of the misleading campaign of Bay.
Just a thought for speculation, please don't attack me on this. I know that Fox already was spotted on scene when the new cars of BB and the Twins were spotted half a year ago. I just wanna know why Megan Fox was dumped for the 3rd movie.
Yes, Mikaela tols Sam she loved him (in the most cliched way an action movie can get). BUT it took them TWO YEARS for to tell each other "I love you". Their relationship would have been over before then if Bay even knew how to write a love story. Transformers 2 and Pearl Harbor prove that Bay needs to stick with the action, and leave the love and drama to other directors.

ROTF took place when Sam was entering college. This movie takes place when he's out of college. So unless he dropped out, and given he was going to a University, there's a MINIMUM of 4 years that have passed.
It's not like ROTF ended and the next day Sam is with Carly. Plus, we don't know how long Sam and Carly will have known eachother when the movie starts.
Oh, and Bay doesn't write the movies. He's a director, so he doesn't deserve all the blame for poor stories.

I personally didn't think Shia's comments were in reference to Mikayla. It was implied that Sam's involvement with the transformers has made him famous and I thought he meant like any other celebrity his character just wants to find a girl who likes him for himself and not for his fame. I suspect the breakup won't be a big plot point. I just don't think Bay will make a big deal about it. I know someone will say logically it has to be explained but this is a Micheal Bay. Don't get me wrong, I love Bay's movies but he never lets logic get in his way. I'm willing to give Rosie a chance, I honestly don't know how anyone can say whether she'll be any good or not or if her character will be well written without seeing the movie.

My opinion: -yes, Michael Bay does certainly know his way around the action genre when it comes to movies...but, as some have already said: If you're looking for a meaningful love story with depth and Richard Marx soundtracks, DON'T WATCH TRANSFORMERS. No-one has ever claimed that the focal point of the series was the romantic growth of Sam and his designated love interest. Yes, it is a rather large part, but it is NOT the main plot point. -on the issue of who plays a better love interest for Sam and the acting abilities of said actress... it is quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to say as of yet, considering I haven't even seen Ms. Huntington-Whitely in action(pardon the pun). -also, I agree with the previously stated fact that the state of the franchise's storyline is NOT MICHAEL BAY'S DESIGNATED FIELD OF EXPERTISE. That is the WRITERS job, not the directors'. On a sidenote, I do agree that as the director of said franchise (becoming the de-facto "leader" of the project) he should have at least stepped in and phoned a friend with good storytelling abilities. -finally, just like any teenage girl hopped up on caffeine and pop music, I just wanna see a good action movie with explosions and giant alien robots. I don't need the love interest, I don't need the parents, I don't even really need Sam. I would be perfectly content with two and a half hours of nothing but CGI robots, as long as they had decent character development.

Transformers 1's love story which i said was decent was about a guy getting his first love, pretty cliche stuff but not terrible. TF2 which i said was pretty bad, had mikela looking like a whore in almost everyother shot, bullshit about not wanting to say i love you, mikela getting humped by a robot, and just because its a continuation, you think its wrong for me to say its worse?

But, when the second movie came along and they had all of this build-up and hinted-at history between them, they pretty much solidified her role in the franchise.
So yes, Mikaela is (was) a major character in the series, but from what I have seen, she's not really IMPORTANT per se. I'm fairly certain Sam could have survived without her, but it wouldn't have been as fun and awesome.
...oh! And for those who think Megan Fox sucks as an actress, go watch "Jennifer's Body". I know she basically plays Satan's whore in that movie, and the haters will just say that she was playing a part she already had down pat (being a whore), but she actually does do a fantastic job with displaying the emotion and drama of the plot.

LOL. 'Jennifer's Body' was the movie that convinced me that Fox can't act. I held back judgement on her performance in Transformers and Transformers 2 b/c action films don't need acting. However, she was just horrible in JB, and even worse in Jonah Hex.

I know you guys are gonna say that transformers is not a movie about love but if you think about every movie have the boy and the girl(Pirates of the caribbean, Twilight, Harry Potter, The Mummy,Spiderman...) and in this case Sam and Mikaela are they.

ReplyDeleteMegan Fox was a terrible actress. I'm glad she is gone. I don't enjoy the Transformers movies for her, but rather the CGI transformers and action scenes. That's all that matters. If you want a love story, go watch a chick flick.

The action scenes in revenge of the fallen were pure fail, apart from the forest fight (which doesnt even make sence anyway). Im not saying rosies story is going to be amazing but mikelas story was fucking shit anyway. The good thing about movie 1 was the fight scenes. There was nothing good about movie 2. Hopefully movie 3 will at least have good fight scenes. I know carly wont be the best thing ever but shell be just as good as mikela. Maybe you retards cant write a better story then revenge of the fallen but im sure the guys working on the film can even if one of thier (STUPID) characters have disapeared.

Those answering like you and attacking people clearly can't grasp characters and plot and go around insulting viewers/fans and telling that only robots matter... Not even in the anime G1 and manga it was just robots fighting, it was cheesy at times and it's outdated but main characters development was very important. And on the movies Sam and Mikaela characters and their love story is the main focus and the device used to let viewers know about Transformers thru their eyes. Bumblebee helping Sam to meet Mikaela... Bumblebee protecting Mikaela... Mikaela helping Bumblebee... that was what turned the first two movies into a success.. the bond between Sam and Mikaela thanks to Autobots and thru the war against Decepticons.

The Rosie topmodel is not hot either and that adds to the bad writing ... ReplyDeleteRemember, Mikaela was a teenager when she told Sam she loved him. How many teenage girls tell their boyfriends they love them but end up breaking up later? Girls change a LOT between 18 and 25. They were teenagers in the first 2 movies and now they are adults. People change. It's not that far fetched an idea.

Look when the drawings were leaked of Optimus Prime and everyone said that michael bay ruined him from what he was originally but then once you all seen the movie you realized how much hard work michael had put into making the best transformers ever.. I dont agree with Mikaela not being in this movie and think that love story wont work for me but im willing to wait and see.. I also believe they haven't given us enough time or reason to love rosie's character and it will be weird to see sam with another woman.. But I am not going to judge until I have seen the movie.. Plus all I really love is bumblebee and sams bond so as long as thats still there.. I'm a girl to and I love the action scenes but it has to all tie together doesnt it now, you cant just put explosions and fight scenes in and hope for the best.. I do laugh at what some of you say because they are just movies for our entertainment so we should be happy that they are even doing another movie...

ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of character and story driven films that I watch and Transformers isn't one of them. If you watch Bay films for story or character development, then you're looking in the wrong place. The characters for Transformers are WEAK, and undeveloped. The story for the first film had many plot holes in it, and ROTF doubled those holes.
Bay makes ACTION films, not serious movies. Meaning you turn off your brain and watch the explosions. That's the kind of films Bay makes.
The bond between Mikeala and Sam? What bond? If you think the love story in Transformers and Transformers 2 is well written, then you know nothing about love.

And Bay and co. knew way before doing the 3rd that Megan had to leave and the cast didn't.

Yes, Mikaela tols Sam she loved him (in the most cliched way an action movie can get). BUT it took them TWO YEARS for to tell each other "I love you". Their relationship would have been over before then if Bay even knew how to write a love story. Transformers 2 and Pearl Harbor prove that Bay needs to stick with the action, and leave the love and drama to other directors.

ReplyDeleteROTF took place when Sam was entering college. This movie takes place when he's out of college. So unless he dropped out, and given he was going to a University, there's a MINIMUM of 4 years that have passed.

Now forcing Sam Witwicky with a new girlfriend trying to play the G1 Carly character card that only a few fans know about it's just wrong and is not going to work. Well, maybe if he got a very hot actress for the role he might have had a chance with it but Rosie topmodel is so anonymous and her chemistry with Shia is really none, she has no chance to let people forget about Mikaela and the fired lead actress for sure.
Then instead of giving Mikaela character a proper dramatic departure, her death by Decepticons, to give Sam Witwicky a reason after years of sadness to find another girlfriend.. the great Bay and producer and writer idea is going to be that Mikaela broke up with Sam because she just loved the robots and not him and so he falls in love with Carly that is dating her boss played by Patrick Dempsey which has been revealed to be Pretender...
Well, Bay screwed it up completely. He really wanted to kill the franchise with this third movie.
He could have saved the movie just by having Sam alone and show the bond between him and his parents and the Autobots. Period.

I personally didn't think Shia's comments were in reference to Mikayla. It was implied that Sam's involvement with the transformers has made him famous and I thought he meant like any other celebrity his character just wants to find a girl who likes him for himself and not for his fame.
ReplyDeleteI suspect the breakup won't be a big plot point. I just don't think Bay will make a big deal about it. I know someone will say logically it has to be explained but this is a Micheal Bay. Don't get me wrong, I love Bay's movies but he never lets logic get in his way.
I'm willing to give Rosie a chance, I honestly don't know how anyone can say whether she'll be any good or not or if her character will be well written without seeing the movie.

-yes, Michael Bay does certainly know his way around the action genre when it comes to movies...but, as some have already said: If you're looking for a meaningful love story with depth and Richard Marx soundtracks, DON'T WATCH TRANSFORMERS. No-one has ever claimed that the focal point of the series was the romantic growth of Sam and his designated love interest. Yes, it is a rather large part, but it is NOT the main plot point.
-on the issue of who plays a better love interest for Sam and the acting abilities of said actress... it is quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to say as of yet, considering I haven't even seen Ms. Huntington-Whitely in action(pardon the pun).
-also, I agree with the previously stated fact that the state of the franchise's storyline is NOT MICHAEL BAY'S DESIGNATED FIELD OF EXPERTISE. That is the WRITERS job, not the directors'. On a sidenote, I do agree that as the director of said franchise (becoming the de-facto "leader" of the project) he should have at least stepped in and phoned a friend with good storytelling abilities.
-finally, just like any teenage girl hopped up on caffeine and pop music, I just wanna see a good action movie with explosions and giant alien robots. I don't need the love interest, I don't need the parents, I don't even really need Sam. I would be perfectly content with two and a half hours of nothing but CGI robots, as long as they had decent character development.

Transformers 1's love story which i said was decent was about a guy getting his first love, pretty cliche stuff but not terrible. But, when the second movie came along and they had all of this build-up and hinted-at history between them, they pretty much solidified her role in the franchise.
ReplyDeleteSo yes, Mikaela is (was) a major character in the series, but from what I have seen, she's not really IMPORTANT per se. I'm fairly certain Sam could have survived without her, but it wouldn't have been as fun and awesome.
...oh! And for those who think Megan Fox sucks as an actress, go watch "Jennifer's Body". I know she basically plays Satan's whore in that movie, and the haters will just say that she was playing a part she already had down pat (being a whore), but she actually does do a fantastic job with displaying the emotion and drama of the plot.
