iPod and Xbox 360 in Transformers?

According to an updated post on the Movie Reporter, in regards to the copy of the leaked TF script they had "...forgot to mention... for reasons that I won't get into we see an I-Pod, X-Box 360 and Plasma screens sprout legs and transform just a bit."

As an idea for product placement, its a brilliant, creative idea and toys I wouldn't mind buying for giggles as they would present the original point of the Transformers, ie real world objects turning into robots. However, its one of those ideas that depends on execution. If done poorly, its a groan moment that could rip the audience out of the movie. If done well, it would be something people might talk about later, something the advertisers would love to happen. All this assumes that such an idea is still in the script and is still going to occur which is doubtful. As rumors go though, its a nifty one.

  1. This is a terrible idea, born from Spielberg's 80s family movie fantasy that he needs to learn is NOT in the spirit of Transformers. Having a Transformer that is an Xbox is one thing, but opening the Matrix (what they're calling the "Energon Cube" ugh) and 'awakening' devices in homes is stupid.

This idea was certainly in the script earlier and is called The Pulse and hopefully it is dead now.

  2. "The Energon Cube". I am still praying that is just a placeholder name. They don't even have to call it the Matrix. The can call it something else, as long as it doesn't cause you to smirk when you hear it.

I like the idea of everyday objects being Transformers as long as it organic to the story and their universe. So yeah the idea of some "Pulse" giving objects life sucks much shit since they wouldn't have been Transformers to begin with, but if they where planted that way then cool with the idea if done well.
