No Ark Appearance?
Based on a leaked script and unconfirmed rumors, its looks like the Ark, the ship that brought the Transformers to Earth, is not apart of the movie continuity. As one of the script writers Roberto Orci asked "One of the questions we always had about the ark: Why would aliens who moonlight as vehicles need other vehicles to travel inside?"
I could come up with many of reasons. One being that interstellar travel isn't really apart of the Transformers capabilities. Another is power and speed. Bigger ship, bigger weapons, faster the travel, usually things that those at war like to have. Finally, the original ark was both a home, base, repair bay and recharging station. Even robots need that.
Final reason is it would explain that annoying hole in the script of why Megatron gets iced in the 1800s but the rest of the Transformers don't go looking until the 100+ years later. The Ark crash landed and everyone was in stasis. Nice, neat and would make a pretty nifty opening pre-credits.
I am sure fans could come up with dozens of practical and not so practical reasons for the use of a spaceship by transforming sentient robots from another world. Have at it in the comments.

naw, you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
ReplyDeletei really hope if they don't include the Ark, they better have a really good loophole
I dunno...the movie sounds like it's going in the wrong direction. I'm not gonna lie, i'm expectation for this movie has been going down.
ReplyDeleteBarasu1shou@yahoo.com
I hope they don't butcher this movie...
ReplyDeleteThat's Poop!! Like all the reasons you gave. All it would take is a little effort and creative thinking to justify the Ark. And they just sweep it under the rug?! WTF?!
ReplyDeleteI had hope that Michael Bay would redeem himself with this film, but if they're taking that much "liberty" than my hope is waning.
Well, it will probably be like the GINO, Godzilla In Name Only, and fuck everything up, but oh well, I watched some of the old episodes, they're pretty much crap. The mythology is there, but if they don't go by it, then what do you call it? Transformers, but not the way you remember it. Like when He-Man fought weirdos like Saurod, Blade, and that ugly little guy with the white hair. And Gwildor, what was that? No battlecat and no lesson at the end. OH, I guess we could have done without that anyway, but Skeletor said he'll be back, still waiting.
ReplyDeleteI find the Ark not being in the movie a bit disturbing.
ReplyDeleteThey better have a really good explaination of how the Transformers came to Earth.
Of course in the current continuation, the Ark was given to Optimus Prime by Primus as the black hole was about to destroy everything, and not as the ship that brought the Transformers to Earth. Yet the Autobots did have a base in the current cartoon continuation.
Well, if they don't have The Ark, I hope it's something that's a better idea that'll make the movie awesome.
BTW, if anyone has that screenwriter's e-mail address, we need to send him all the good reasons for the Ark to be in the movie, and why the Transformers needed it.
One night with Robert Orci and his hollywood friends. "Wanna smoke a couple of big fat doobies", Robert said. Hollywood friend says "yah sure". "Hey while we're at it lets play around with the net and look at the wierd fans commments" "I just don't understand why they need this stupid so called ark. Come on we're trying to make this more hip and realistic for the 21st century. I know let's get some acid and we'll find some stupid reason to take it out"
ReplyDeleteThis has been another night with Robert Orci and the hip Hollywood crew of the new Transformers movie.
I sorry my name is anony mouse and I should have left a disclaimer for that previous comment. The previous comment was meant to be stupid and tounge and cheek. Those aren't the real quotes of Robert Orci nor I'm I implying that anyone involved in the new Transformers movie uses drugs even though it might appear to be. Thank you very much.
ReplyDeletehey guys, this isnt really transformers related, but i hope our moderator will agree that every now and then we need something t odistract us from this movie, otherwise we get really mad at everyone and everything cuz its not coming out soon enough

I never noticed before how much the Defiant from Deep Space Nine looks like the Autobot's Ark.
ReplyDeleteya know, i think they can pull off the movie with out the ark just fine.. in recent incarnations of transformers, they've had the "space-bridge" (i think thats what its called), pretty much an intergalactic freeway that they travelled across to get where they needed...
ReplyDeleteso this is how they could possibly use that in the movie... Megatron being all diabolical and shit wants to get to earth for some reason, so he takes a small band of 'cons with him to set up a receiver so that he can connect the bridge from cybertron. unfortunately they end up in antarctica, and thru some series of events, the crew is lost and he is the only survivor, however is frozen before he can activate the bridge
so 100 yrs later when he is beginning to thaw out, an internal radio signal activates the bridge and gives his location to his crew back home. the autobots intercept, blah blah "megatron must be stopped" etc etc... there we have it, space bridge opened, lets go to earth
anyone like this idea? i do :]
I kind of like it, accept, who's leading the Decepticons in the meantime? Starscream, possibly? Or are they completely leaderless?
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned before, the Ark wasn't brought up in the Transformers Cybertron series until the Autobots were on their way to stopping the black hole. I haven't seen the whole series, but I did see the one where the Ark was finally brought into play, as well as several other Cybertron episodes.
easy, he leaves shockwave in charge, just like he had in G1
ReplyDeleteon a side note, it was quoted previously in the blog "Throughout time [Megatron] has had a very big gun...."
ReplyDeletewell if he's gonna be a jet this time around (which im all for), i think he should resemble the TF:cybertron incarnation of Thundercracker. that dudes gun is gigantic! i saw it and HAD to buy it, haha

i would be more than pleased if megatron ends up w/ a gun that big

I hope the movie or its sequel will bring up the idea of the Spacebridge. Its how the Transformers can teleport from Earth to Cybertron and back.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the spacebridge has to be what they're using. If they don't use that idea, then I'm not sure any idea they come up with will be accepted by Transformers fans.
ReplyDeleteShockwave...only thing is he's not one of the Transformers that are planned for the first movie. But, we don't have to know that Shockwave led the Decepticons for that period of time either.
Spacebridge idea is interesting one except for one thing: the TFs have to build it on both ends. That still means still have to make at least one trip to Earth to construct the transporter, therefore a spaceship is still needed.
ReplyDeleteAs for Shockwave, that would be a sweet tease for a possible sequel.
How was the spacebridge created in the current Transformers cartoon continuity?
ReplyDeletehas anybody hear anything about the matrix? are they going to include it in the movie?
ReplyDeletejulio m
pretty much how the last guy said, the spacebridge transmitter/receiver needs to be built on both sides (ex- cybertron and earth) in order to function properly.
ReplyDelete-ej
As of right now, the Matrix is known as "The Energon Cube" in the movie, but we don't really know for sure it will stay that way.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the Spacebridge goes...perhaps a receiver was put on both Cybertron and Earth long before the movie takes place. Just a thought...
very possible, earth may have been "marked" for conquest by the 'cons in ancient history, thus a spacebridge already has been built somewhere ancient... remember how stonehenge was utilized in the beast wars? that was sick! -ej
ReplyDeleteaccording to the Feb. 2006 script they come to earth as metal metors then unroll into robots who scan passing cars. i wish i wuz kidding!!!!
ReplyDeletemeant meteors
ReplyDeleteInteresting way to come to Earth. Can't say I'm completely against that idea. However, I can seriously understand why many Transformers fans would be against it.
ReplyDeleteNo one has answered my questions yet as far as how the Transformers came to Earth in the Unicron Trilogy (Amrada, Energon, Cybertron series') in the first place. I've only seen a few episodes of Cybertron, and have not seen Armada or Energon episodes at all.
ok, i know it all started w/ Armada
ReplyDeletesome kids found a minicon disc, when activated would produce a minicon protoform- the minicons were pretty much the equivalent of batteries, when linked with their "owner" transformer they produced in them immense power levels.
anyways, that disc the kids found, when activated, sent a signal across the stars to cybertron, alerting the transformers to their location... its pretty much a race now to see who gets the minicons first, or at least the most powerful...D'cons want them for evil, A'bots want to protect them from the D'cons.
im pretty sure they flew from cybertron... i know that the D'cons base was their crashed ship on the moon, and the A'bots had a hidden base in a mountain
That explains how the mini-cons got to Earth. How the other Transformers got to Earth...it's assumed they flew...but I guess we're not really 100% sure on that one.
ReplyDeleteI looked up info on Wikipedia and did some googling too, but I didn't find any more than what has been posted here.
Does the idea of Transformers transforming into meteors sound like Rock Lords from Go-Bots to anyone?
ya know, i dont think they so much transform into meteors as they probly have pods or capsules that resemble or are disguised as meteors... think like the beast wars stasis pods
ReplyDeletewho knows how it'll work? maybe the D'cons choose to come in "meteor-pods" and the A'bots have the Ark parked somewhere in the solar system after they chase after them, simply teleporting to the planet since they have the enemies location already
hell, i should be writing the script, im good at this, haha
-ej
ps- if you see longer posts above, and its not labeled w/ my name, more than likely its mine...such as the armada story, heh
It would be better if they came in stasis pods...
