Transformers Countdown Clock

I decided to add a countdown clock to the left sidebar for no particular reason. Also have all the trailers and movie posters further down on both columns.

What do you think? To much? Maybe too much stuff piled on? What can go and what should stay? Any other site suggestions? Feel free to email me or add some comments on what you think.

Oh yeah, another question. I noticed that the official Transformers website has a webmasters section to it. Thinking of signing up but not particularily happy about giving them personal information nor possibility of giving them some content control without at least some knowledge of what the trade-off is. Promotional material alone doesn't seem worth it to me. Anyone know anything about the program, recommend it or not?

  1. It's not bad, considering you do get alot of readers and it's a good way to keep things where a newbie can easily find them.

  2. don't bother with the webmaster program. It's a piece of crap and I have yet to see any benefit whatsoever.

  5. Countdown is fine by me. But I'd nay-say the webmaster program. You have a pretty good setup working for you right now, and I don't see any reason to change it.

  8. hi ,
ummm....I love your web set-up. Your the only real good web site devoted to only transformers. The only thing i can think wrong is to have a blog where we can e-mail you if we find anything new out. Because sometimes i find things out before you do(no offense) and i've no way to tell you till you find out. so maybe just an e-mail address for telling you new info. But if a whole bunch of people send you shit then i guess just remove the link. as for the TF clock i guess it's alright but just to make sure go on transformers.com and wait till it's a sold whole number then restart the clock. Overall.... I VERY nice job. Good work!

  9. P.S.
I think that maybe the timer would look better if it was like the one on TF.com. Well you decide. Take a poll on which one you think best.
    Great job.

P.P.S. If the creator and/or the writer could e-mail me. Blake_transformer@yahoo.com I was just wondering how to set up a website of my own. But not about TF. This site is the best

  10. Hi! Thanks for all the comments.

For my email address, its the first one in the "Links" section. I can move it or rephrase if people think that will help make it easier to find.

I looked at the Transformers.com countdown clock. I like it, I agree its a better one but sadly I couldn't find a way to lift their code effectivily and apply it to the blogger site.

As far as setting up a website, it depends on what your doing. Blogger can meet many needs but there are flexibility limitations such as ease of navigation and information can upload. You are depending on the hosting kindness of others for most things, such as files, movies, mp3, and so forth. But then again, all that stuff costs, and blogger is free, so for my needs the tradeoff is worth it.

A good example of a limitation is the countdown clock. I can't download the code to the blogger server to run, instead I had to use another site (www.mashface.com) that hosted the javascript/flash coding that runs the countdown clock. Then I had to resize the poster pic to fit as background for the clock (using a draft post to hold the pic) and then figure out how to alter the existing provided code to reference that pic.

I rather have a countdown clock that was just days, minutes and seconds, but this one was the only one I found that hosted the clock for free, yet allowed me to change the background picture. The others I found that looked good either was unhosted raw code, had no flexibility in image used or had a fee. So about three hours later of google searches, testing and piddling, now have a countdown clock. Nice thing about this is another site hosting method is its means its code anyone can use as they see fit once its figured out.

If want the code for the clock, email me. I tried to post it here but tags are not allowed.

  11. Hey there Kingdom2000 - check out my countdown at the very bottom of http://www.transformersfans.com/

If you'd like something similar i'd be happy to send you the code. Although it sounds like you may need it hosted too. Do Blogger templates allow iframes? If so we could try hosting it from my site, no catches or conditions. Us Transformers sites need to stick together. :)

  12. Great site shawn, I like the layout and especially some of the pics and the like you created using movie images and lettering. I need to do something like that for the site title but don't have the software (excluding mspaint). Its was one of the reason thinking of joining the webmaster program but based on advice form people here going to wait on that.

As for iframes, I don't know. I pretty much just grab code and hope the Blogger site compiler excepts it. It either does or not and if not, can't use it cause that part is beyond my control. Email me the code and I will give it a shot. Thanks for the help.

  13. I have a countdown on my blog, it's just a simple script though. I like yours. I hate the add sense shit though. I mean it's your blog but honestly the 73 and a half cents a month you're going to get from it is hardly worth the space. Just my opinion though.

This blog is still my number one source for Transformers news. I go to the forum but the people on it, well, they kind of make me want to throw up sometimes. So rock on.

  14. Yo Kingdom. I reworked my countdown a bit and tested it with blogger. I sent you an email and you use it if you'd like.

I can make some changes too if you'd like. Let me know.

Like I said, us fans should stick together instead of the nonsense competitiveness I see out there. :)
