“[We're going to] expand on the ‘Reign of Starscream’ story that we’re doing and tie everything in to what this next movie is going to be,” explained writer Chris Mowry, who partners on the book with artist Alex Milne. “The next movie starts out with just tons of action and there’s obviously going to be a lot of questions, so we’re hoping to answer some of those beforehand.”The main takeaway is The Fallen is the main villain in the film (who still unknown) but then the title gave that away anyway, further confirmation that Arcee and Soundwave are in the upcoming film, that Destiny will be in-continuity thanks to IDW's work with Hasbro and the movie opens right into the middle of some action (rumored to be whatever was shot in Bethlehem).
At the end of “Transformers,” audiences were treated to a grand speech from Optimus Prime issuing the call for his off-world Autobots to head to Earth. We also saw Starscream blast into space after the defeat of his leader Megatron. So where did he go? Mowry’s “Reign of Starscream” miniseries — currently on shelves — answers that question and leads directly into “Destiny.”
Whereas “Reign of Starscream” expanded on the first film, “Destiny” will establish much of the second before fans are introduced to an increasingly complex storyline with multiple new robots. “We’re definitely taking every character that we can from the sequel,” said Mowry. “So you’ll see some Sector 7 involvement and what really happened to them. The same thing with some of the new characters, we’ll explain how they get to Earth. Because like I said, people will be wondering ‘Hey, where did that guy come from?’”
While Mowry has yet to have direct contact with “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, he has worked closely with Hasbro to keep his story in continuity, as well as to ensure he’s not stepping on the film’s plotlines. “We had this really ambitious script done where there were a lot of fan-favorites in there. [But] some of them are going to be making an appearance in the second movie so they asked us not to use those, which is understandable.”
Two of those fan-favorite characters are Soundwave and Arcee, both of whom find themselves recruited for the sequel. “[Starscream]’s more of like a military guy. So in ‘Destiny’ we’re going to see a lot more involvement with [the backgrounds of] Prime and Megatron, [as well as] Cybertron’s history and how that affects the present day. It all centers around the plot of the sequel which I obviously can’t get into. It’ll be explained but you’ll see a lot more expansion of their characters and their motivations and their destinies, if you will.”

More on The Fallen, TF Destiny
In an interview with MTV, IDW Editor-in-Chief Chris Mowry revealed a little bit more about the five issue Transformers: Destiny series and confirmed some information about the movie including re-iterating Simon Furman's indication that The Fallen is a new character rather then a metaphor for the return of an established TF (but it can still go either way).

I like the idea of Sector 7 living on, even though it's "officially disbanded". Sector 7, in my opinion, added an interesting human element. It's hard for me to explain with the right words, but I thought it was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteWhere can I buy these IDW comics? I cant seem to find them anywhere local to me. Online I guess?
ReplyDeletei'm from the netherlands and are these comics coming out here too ?
ReplyDeletei hope so because i'm a big transformers fan and want to know as much as posible of these gaint robots.
so if someone can help me out here big thanks
"We're going to explore the background of the fallen"
ReplyDelete-- Well, this could mean the character 'The Fallen' .. or the fallen, as in a fallen robot, which might imply Megatron.
Either way, its still anyone's guess until solid confirmation is available.
Yeah! Big battle to begin! Woot, woot!
ReplyDeletePS: I still think the Fallen is Jetfire.
Interesting. I'm glad that Sector 7 is surviving, it had a wicked awesome site that I hope will get updated. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is part of the Bay own misinformation campaign going on.
ReplyDeleteThe Fallen is not the character from the comics, that's a trick. They are not going to introduce it.
Sector7 renewed into a new group? We know that John Turturro character, Agent Simmons is not part of Sector7 anymore because pictures of some filmed scenes showed that he was working in an Italian grocery store...
So.. that's part of misinformation campaign as well.. what I think it's going to happen is that they are going to reveal the core group behind Sector7 with that actually being just a very small group of a much larger organization that if not in this maybe in the next movie could be revealed to have direct contact with the race of aliens Quintessons and knowing a lot more than anyone else on Transformers aliens...
Sequel starts off with a big battel! *wooot!*
ReplyDeleteThat alone is enough for me :D
My disappointment is growing. I hope this "Fallen" garbage is just that-garbage meant to lead everyone astray. If not, ROTF might be an appropriate acronym for this film.
ReplyDeleteAll of you folks with your "misinformation campaign"... I serously doubt there actually IS any real organized "misinformation campaign", lest alone one that includes official comic book writers and information they give out in official interviews.
ReplyDeleteBay claimed prior to movie 1 that only he hmself, Hasbro's CEO and the company's corporate lawyer knew the "real" final names of the Transformers characters in the (first) movie, while even the screenwriters, unbeknownst to them, were in fact working with false alias names for them. Orci, in retrospect, recently called that claim in itself misinformation over at TFW2005.
So essentially, Bay was just his usual, preposterous self back then, so why should we believe him NOW when he claims there's an organized misinformation campaign? If there's any "misinformation", it's the inconsiderate stuff Bay himself kees stating in public, not anything that actually involves official third parties.
Seriously, Bay probably just made up the "misinformation campaign" story on the spot so he could later claim any garbage made up by unrelated attention whores to be part of his so-called "misinformation campaign".
Bay would probably also like to claim responsibility for that fake poster created by that Polish guy who recently revealed himself as the artist behind it over at the Don Murphy boards. All totally a thoroughly planned part of Bay's totally organized misinformation campaign, of course.
Riiiight.
Okay, that being said... you non-Americans looking to buy the IDW comics (I'm from Germany myself), your best chance is either too find a comic book store near where you live that can order US publications through Diamond, or wait for the trade paperback collections to come out and then order them from Amazon or something.
Movie-related comics by IDW that are currently available:
1) Movie Prequel (four issues, also available as trade paperback collection) - story is so-so, art is not stellar as far as I'm concerned, but okay (other fans worship the artist)
2) Movie Adaptation (four issues, also available as trade paperback collection) - story SUCKS (the best parts from the movie are missing), art SUCKS, everything about it is just BAD
3) Movie Prequel Special (single issue; collects two "special" comics originally published in cooperation with Target, this is the mass retail release of those stories) - first story (originally the second special comic released) contradicts (!) the original Prequel mini, art starts out okay, then the artist changes halfway through the story and the art becomes sucky; second story (originally the first special comic released) is essentially a "missing chapter" from issue 4 of the original Prequel mini; artist is the sucky one from the first story
4) Movie Sequel: The Reign of Starscream (five issues; three are currently out) - story is quite decent thus far, artist is the same one as from the Movie Adaptation, but somewhat better (he still sucks at drawing humans, though)
5) Upcoming: Transformers: Destiny (five issues).
6) There's also a Transformers UK magazine that contains 10-page original stories and fills the rest with reprints of stories originally released by IDW. The original UK comics are now also reprinted by IDW as "Transformers: Saga of the Allspark", with one issue containing two UK stories. The first issue has been released; the UK magazine is currently at issue 14.

ReplyDeleteUm, I wouldn't exactly call Arcee a fan favorite. :(
I think the fallen is going to be ironehide
