Shia Injured, Arrested for DUI (Updated)

Transformers star Shia LaBeouf was arrested for DUI after a car accident that resulted in injuries to his head, left hand, and knee. An unidentified female passenger and other driver where not injured (but I bet a lawsuit is coming).

Normally I could care less about the gossip stuff but in this case it seemed worth posting about. One reason is because driving while drunk is simply beyond stupid and point out the stupidity of others is worthwhile. The second reason is depending on the shoot schedule and the severity of Shia's injuries, this could impact the filming of Transformers 2.

A knee injury can lead to noticeable limp on screen, a hand injury will make it difficult for him to grip objects, hang on to things and the like and of course aggravating a head injury can be dangerous. Bay has a history of expecting his actors to participate in the physical needs of his movies as much as possible and right now he is probably very angry looking at the scenes that will need to possibly be re-worked and shot differently to accommodate Shia's injuries.

This is all speculation though as currently we know nothing of how hurt he is (could just be bruises) or what the shooting schedule is (darn it). I do know one thing, Shia's promotional swing for Eagle Eye, which comes out in September, will probably be much more aggravating for him as he gets asked about the DUI repeatedly.

Thanks to Charl_Huntress and Chilly One for the links.

Update: From the comments, Shia LaBeouf's representatives commented on the crash. Apparently his green Ford flipped when he made a left-hand turn (ie, he took the turn way to fast) and he needed surgery for his left hand which was crushed during the accident.

“Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of ‘Transformers 2’ within one month,” his reps’ statement continued. “No further comment will be issued at this time.” Whether that month delay is to recover or because of the shooting schedule is unknown.

Another update: Now with video via Socialite Life, which shows the scene of the accident on La Brea Avenue with the flipped truck.

Update again: Guess who the mysterious female passenger was. None other then Transformers 2 co-star Isabel Lucas. Of note is a Paramount rep confirmed that Lucas was "already back on the set" which strikes me as interesting. What are they filming and how much disruption has this accident caused the film as I find it hard to belief she would be in scenes that wouldn't need Shia's participation. I bet Bay is livid. Thanks to Brettles and others for the heads-up.

  1. I'm worried this might have an affect on the shooting schedule, and add this to the strike fears and it makes me a bit nervous. I don't want anything stopping TF2. I need to see that movie!

  2. You can't really believe the "Hollywood Scandal" websites. I'm sure if it was true it'd get a bit more headlines, like the smoking incident did. I'm not trusting anything that's said until' Bay or Shia backs it up and says that it's true.

  4. well they released him on suspicion of dui misdemeanor.
so that means that they dont know for sure if he was actually intoxicated. tmz says they didnt take a breath test at the scene either.

  5. He probably went right into surgery, but I'm sure they drew blood at the hospital. That's standard procedure in a DUI case, and standard procedure when there is suspicious of DUI. Likely he'll be charged soon.

  6. I think he's already been charged. The question to come will be will he spend 100 minutes in jail or 90 minutes. He's probably got some good lawyers anyway, so he should be good. I'm just glad no one was seriously hurt. That would suck, and the fool should know that drinking and driving is not cool. Look what happened to that Lane kid. He killed someone. Hopefully Shia will wisen up, get some counseling, and get his butt back to the TF2 set!

"It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest," Wolf said.

Wolf said LaBeouf was booked then released for misdemeanor DUI. The 22-year-old actor was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was being treated for injuries to his left hand and a knee, as well as a minor head injury, Wolf said.

  10. I have strong feelings that Shia is an asshole anyway. This just makes me dislike him even more. If robots weren't in this movie I would say "Fark It."

  11. It's unfortunate that we got an idiot to star in transformers. I don't care for him...but he might be ruining it for the rest of us.

Well, it's either him or SAG. Pick your poison.

If robots weren't in this movie I would say "Fark It."

If Megan Fox weren't in this movie, I would say fark it.

  13. People make mistakes. I smashed up myself & buddy when I was around Shia's age while driving drunk. I don't think I'm a bad dude, just made a very stupid mistake that a lot of young people make. Shia will pay, apparently already has. Hopefully RotF doesn't suffer from it though.

    DON'T DRINK & DRIVE!

  14. you may have been young and got into an accident. But shia has a responsiblity and a role model status to upkeep. Responsibility to the movie (as an actor). And its like when you are the mayor, you don't do crazy shit cuz you can, but because you have to set an example to the thousand of eyes that are watching you.

In anycase, people can keep covering up for him, but repeated stupidity like this SHOULD speak all too clearly.

We need a new main human. ; \

  15. every year he got problems with the justice, srsly he never gonna learn that he should stop the crap, and focus more and on his job .. which is .. acting, not hard, but he's good guy, we all make mistakes! but i agree with the previous post "shia has a responsiblity and a role model status to upkeep" tons of ppl like him, atm he's such bad example ..

  16. You can't really say he has an imagine to keep up, and that he's a role model. Seriously, what kids, I mean real small kids, look up to him? None. He's not like most of the Disney Channel stars anymore like Miley Cyrus, or The Jonas Brothers, he's making real *ching ching* now, and he's off the Disney Channel, which means kids don't look up to him.

I say, let him do what ever the hell he wants, as long as he doesn't get hurt, and/or it doesn't ruin his career.

  17. I hope that Shia ia not going down the same road most big-time actors do and let their fans down. He could have seriously injured someone else. Don't drink and drive. You make enough freaking money, Shia, hire a driver!!!

  18. I have no tolerance for drunk driving! I think that Shia needs to pay the price for this selfish act, even if it means putting the movie on hold.

  19. what a complete and total idiot. if he was stupid enough to drink and drive, he deserves his injuries and i hope he goes to jail.

  20. im sorry dan orris, but your comment fails.

"Seriously, what kids, I mean real small kids, look up to him?"

lawlz, um sure, i was totally talking about babies. Come on, use your head. And they would look up to him, cuz he plays the human hero of a transformer movie and he plays a young guy. Disney doesn't always have all the attention.

"as long as he doesn't get hurt, and/or it doesn't ruin his career."

Failstatement here. HE DID GET HURT. And he IS ruining his career. I remember Spielberg had to have a good talk with him on his last antics.

  21. I just wonder if his screw ups will be viewed in the same light as Lohan, Skanky Hilton, and the rest. On a side note, it seems the "bad" girls get more flack then the boys do because...well...I guess boys will be boys.

Society should punish him, but they should punish him fairly and ridicule him fairly. Then let him get back to work.

  23. I also find it hard to be sympathetic to those who drink and drive - get your act together, Shia. Straighten up and fly right!

As far as being a role model: yes, anyone in the public eye is thrust into this position when they become a public figure - it's pretty much an unwritten contractual agreement. However, I do not look up to celebrities to raise my children or to pattern my life after. Every thing that glitters ain't gold and there's more than glitz and glamour when it comes to being a media star. At the end of the day, celebrities' BMs stink just as bad as the rest of ours.

Sheriff suggests Shia might not have caused the crash.

  25. Hes just an actor, theres no responsibility he owes us. Sure he screwed up who hasn. Let him live his life, and just watch your movies

    ReplyDelete
  26. HA! it wasn't his fault. the other driver ran a red light. but, uh, drinking and drive is still a pretty shitty thing to do.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Regardless if he was at fault for the accident, he is still at fault for DUI.

  28. And this is why people should "think before you speak" -

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080729/ap_en_ce/people_labeouf;_ylt=Aoij7PBoqADqOHlNaoPyABBxFb8C

Detectives have determined that the other driver was responsible for the accident. However, I am curious what a "misdemeanor DUI" is. I thought you either were DUI or not.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i think there's different levels. I think if someone were seriously hurt or killed, then it would be a felony DUI. I read that since no one was, the police decided to file misdemeanor DUI charges.

  30. Shia is not responsible for the cause of the crash... the car he got into the accident with ran a red light... everyone makes mistakes and shia works hard. im sure hell get his act together, he was made to do great things
