Beijing 2008 Transformers Like Commercial
TFormers.com found the below commercial from Stadium Astro for the Beijing 2008 Olympics that clearly seems inspired from Transformers complete with complicated mechanical transformations and noises. The alt modes almost seem Cybertronian to me.

Actually, this isn't the first transformers inspired Stadium Astro advertisement. The first one came out sometime around early 2007.
ReplyDeleteIt featured a robot transforming into an F1 car, a robot playing soccer, a robot playing tennis on top of a skyscraper and a robot bouncing a basketball. The ad ended with one of the robots peeking into an apartment and startling two guys who were watching tv.
I'll see if i can find a copy of that ad online.

ReplyDeleteStarted off with a ship over Kuala Lumpur city (I think? That's where I'm from anyway). Boy playing ball drops ball and cries out to mum. Strange objects float down from the sky and one by one transform into robots featuring the sports Iceburn mentioned.
There was a golf robot too.

To be honest, when i first saw the ad, i thought it was some teaser or promo for the TF movie last year.
The robots look cool anyway, one wonders what it would have been like had Bay gone with such a concept instead of the more mechanical like robots in the movie itself.
Anyone notice that the announcer sounds a bit like David Kaye?

ReplyDeleteIn the second one (the older one), at the end you can actually hear the signal sound that Blackout uses in the movie.
Hasbro should sue the Chinese company for that.
ReplyDeleteHey guys this is actually done in Malaysia if I'm not mistaken (my country btw). We see this ad on TV alot, and yeah, they make no secret that TF had a major influence on their ads... Pretty cool imho, never expected them to come out with this. The robots have similar aesthetics, but cleaner & smoother in appearance. They are similar, but there are no actual transformers in it, kinda like those Citroen ads...

Yes its Malaysian..yes it was inspired from TF it was done by MMU student(Malaysian Multimedia University). We see it everyday on Astro before any major sports event that will occur such as FIFA World Cup, Euro 08 the BPL and now the 2nd Ads is for the the Beijing Olympics.
