Maybe it was just my theatre, but there was no Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen trailer with Quantum of Solace. Neither was the Star Trek trailer. I am thinking there will be no trailer this week mainly because there is not the usual studio promotional push with leaks to major movie websites and magazines. The theory was based on comments from Orci that a promotional push would start in November and just rumors in general. Keep in mind though that no one officially ever used the word "trailer" when describing promotional plans for the movie, so while I am disappointed there really isn't anyone to blame.
Now that I have seen Quantum of Solace, it seems like a good call to not air the trailer with that film. It will not be the biggest movie of the season as it will likely have a great weekend and then quickly flameout due to poor word of mouth. The acting is good, the story serviceable, the woman beautiful, but the villain is a joke. But that isn't the problem. The problem is either a poor director or editor. The film seemed edited by someone with a hyper version of ADD. During action sequences, I defy you to find a moment that lasted more than 3 seconds before there was a cut. During no action points, the number climbed to at most 8 seconds. There was probably excellent, epic Bond-like stunts and effects in the movie but everything was so cut to pieces that you could not enjoy them. In there was an excellent 007 flick but horrible editing resulted in a horrible movie. I cannot recommend the movie and suggest you wait till it’s at the cheap theatre or can rent it. See Casino Royale or another Bond movie again if you need a 007 fix.
This leads me to wonder if Paramount and Bay knew what a disaster Quantum was going to become and decided to attach the movie to a better, possibly Twilight (out 11/21). I hope that is the case. Time will tell as always but if suddenly multiple magazines and websites start getting Transformers 2 information, take that as a strong hint that a trailer is coming.

ReplyDeleteI think the biggest problem QoS has is that it's the next bond after Casino Royale, which IMHO is one of, if not the, best recent bond movie.
They won't attach it to Twilight, the demographic is all wrong. That movie is for teenage girls and their moms.

(yes, i work on the set in PA, NM, and CA. But feel free to bad mouth me anyway.)
Just a hint....You might be a lil more pissed than excited when the trailer comes out. I've heard(and this is all I'll say, it's going to be a big tease)
How do I know? Because everyone on the NM set knew a certain scene was shot just for trailer.

ReplyDeleteTruth be know, a lot of us on set don't know what most of the new TF look like.(CGI to be done later)
We had code-names for TF stand ins.
For ex., We used poles with lil heads on top to help actors with reference points. Never got names like "soundwave" or "starscream."
There was so much going on, you almost miss the fact that the scenes had robots in them. It was like any other movie I've worked on. Except MB shoots really fast.
I love this reading this site. I've got a month before I have to jump onto another movie.(no action, it's a love story) :-(
I wasn't expecting it to be in front of Bond. We knew from studios that Trek was gonna be there, but there was no official news on TF2 being there. It was all just wishful thinking on the fan's part. I still think it will come out in December like the first movie.

ReplyDeleteTech. the first teaser for Transformers was tied with PoC Dead Man's Chest and that came in July 2006. A Year before the movie. It didn't really show much of anything, But still. I'd be willing to have the same treatment all over again for this installment.

I don't even know if there mothers would approve, it ruins the entire concept of a real vampire. Apparently sunlight, garlic, holy water, The Cross, etc. doesn't kill or hurt them. Unfortunately , like snortpocket said, most "lads" will be dragged along to see it. It would still be a bad move for the comp., unless they plan that the trailer will haul in the money for twilight itself and not the actual movie.

I think that TF2 trailer will be premiered before some Paramount or Dreamworks new movie... so we have to wait...

ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to go with the majority here on Twilight, no TF2. I think it could possibly be attached to TDTESS, but my mony is on Star Trek. I know its a bit close to TF2 release, but think of it this way. We are already salivating over its coming, so why not drag it out and keep up the interest by teasing us with these rumors of a trailer and keep us digging into whatever they feed us, so right now they have us feeding out of their hands.

Here's what I predict, and I could be way off: I personally don't think we'll see ANY TF:ROTF trailers or anything until December, most likely MID-December. Let's be real: they just wrapped shooting a couple weeks ago, right? There is NO WAY IN HELL that they even have enough CGI rendered (pre-vis renders DON'T COUNT, as that's what they are: pre-vises NOT COMPLETED FILM FOOTAGE)and animated to do a full trailer. It may just be a teaser, like the anonymous poster said about the NM shoot.
ReplyDeleteAnd to anonymous: they used sticks with heads on them when they filmed the first Transformers film - that's not anything really earth-shattering and neither is the fact that code-names were used, as that, too, was a method used during the filming of the first film, and to some degree it failed, because Brawl ended up getting the name of a certain G1 combiner, which leads to a HUGE continuity problem if said combiner really is appearing in TF:ROTF.
Now, while I understand that Bay wants to fake people out, and to some degree is justified, due to all the bullshit he had to deal with from crazy dickheads during the production of TF1 (and some of the production of this film, like the extra that was a COMPLETE ASS), I gotta say this: this faking out shit is getting really fucking old. I mean, they're in post production, now! How about coming clean this time, or not saying a damn thing at all? 'Cause sooner or later, the truth is going to come out anyway.

HASBRO MADE SEVERAL PROTOTYPES THAT WERE LATER RELEASED, BUT WERE NEVER PUT INTO PRODUCTION. THESE PROTOTYPES INCLUDED OPTIMUS PRIME, STARSCREAM AND MEGATRON. i've been on this site off and on many times. but the one thing i don't understand is why sooooo many on here don't think "the fallen" is a true transformer and will be in the movie.
to me, there's already so many clues it's possible.
even the producers talk about the mythology of the transformers for this movie.
where do you think that's coming from? the origin. with that, you get "the fallen" and all the others before OP and MEG.
To me it's not a downer knowing this "fallen" character is going to be apart of the new movie. only diehards will know about him. it will be news to most others.
Could be a very complex storyline.
