Ugo Movie Blog is reporting that legendary voice actor Frank Welker has been officially cast in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as Soundwave. The news is from an interview with Roberto Orci as he was promoting Star Trek. Soundwave is a character Welker originated for all three seasons of the 1980s cartoons or G1 cartoon as sometimes referred to that ran from about 1984-1987.

Roberto Orci: I think so.

I'm just glad they finally made it official. I get happier with this movie every week. Not that I wasn't happy with the first one, but I like the way all these pieces are Fallen into place..........see the way I did that. Thanks for the news. For the first Transformers videogame they supposevly could'nt get Hugo Weaving to voice Megatron. So they had Frank Welker voice Megatron. But if you have played it you would agree that he sound's like he is on drugs. lol

To answer above, Frank Welker was the original voice for G1 Soundwave. So it is very fitting for him to be cast in this role.

superion is not in the movie. there are too many robots that have not been even hinted at or talked about even slightly that would have to be introduced to combine to form superion. maybe for the 3rd movie though...we'll see...

ReplyDeleteWelker recently did the voice of Soundwave (as well as Megatron) on Robot Chicken. It didn't have the same vocal FX added, so he sounded more like Dr. Claw than Soundwave, but it was a funny skit about how ridiculous Soundwave's alt mode is now.

ReplyDeleteTo the person about superion. That is a re-release of Superion from the Energon series. I have always hated that version of Superion. And ... they would release ROTF toys that AREN'T in the movie because a new label will sell the toy even if it is old. Just like the first movie had a bunch of toys for it that was not in the movie. It is all about marketing.

Now we wait for the movie, from what Ive been reading & seeing in the most recent trailer is that SW is kept as a 'hush-hush, watch, wait & see character" in the sequel..
Im guessing since SW & Dev's are most loyal to Megatron; It is SW who uses the military satellites to pinpoint the exact location of Megatron's whereabouts in the ocean then relays info to the incomming proto-form comets of the Constructicons....This is so fregin awsome!!
