Transformers 2 $60.6 Million Day in U.S. (Updated)

Update: The final numbers are in and it turns out the estimates were off by quite a bit. Transformers 2 officially made $60.6 million in its first full day of release on Wednesday which places its five day estimates as high as $170 million in first five days.

Despite the bad reviews, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen first day in theatres opened to a massive $55 million take for the best Wednesday opening day release for a movie domestically, as least based on early estimates. The total includes the $16 million from the midnight screenings of the film.

This easily surpasses previous record holder Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ($44.2 million). According to Empire, if that number is any indication, that means that Transformers 2 could surpass Spider-Man 2's $152.4 million 5-day opening.

  1. Spread the word guys! Do not let the box office numbers drop. Do not let critics enslave people preventing them from watching the movie. That is what the competition is trying to do with bribes.

  2. hey there folks i have an idea make a new poll to vote. how many people went to go see the movie in IMAX, minIMAX, and regular theater?

  3. hhmm... if i have to compare Part 1 VS ROTF... ROTF is the best. Great punch lines especially that "im under the enemy's "scrutum""....hahaha!!! it really got me. :) Also, i think Michael Bay did a great job. The Special Effects also improved in the film. Hhmmm....i may agree with the comments that some parts of the script are a bit off the line but if i have to say it in general...i say the punch lines are tolerable and really funny. Also, if i was the producer of the film i'll give Ms. Fox more action scene...i noticed that most of the time she just hangs around Sam. Now, on Mr. Bay being a "racist"... if he was a racist and in the right state of mind he will not approve on putting that many racist jokes on the script....why? Its like digging his own grave in the movie industry.

Note: Im stating my point as a Movie Addict and not as a person who is taking things personal. *Peace*

  5. I for one will be seeing this multiple times. Critics be damned. I love transformers, so I want to make my own judgement! Can't wait to see it.

  6. I never agree with critics. Some people will never be pleased. I'll be seeing multiples showings as well. I saw it at 11:59pm on tuesday. theater had 18 rooms showing it and it was packed everywhere from what i can tell. I will be catching a matinee again this weekend.

  7. I'm going Sunday, the wait is almost unbearable...really sucks having to wait until then. All the critics can choke on there popcorn, it's almost funny to read some of them for a good laugh. I really like the dork that was on CNN's site yesterday, in his little video, he was bashing Bay and the movie, then when he went to leave, he was so outraged by the movie, that he didn't see the spilt butter on the marble floor. Wham, flat on his back, and now complaining about his back hurting because of this terrible movie...funny as hell, lmao. Wonder if it would have been nominated for best movie of the year, if Prime bends Devisator over and asks him who his daddy is...hell with it, forget the critics, can't wait to see it.

  8. DAMN!!! Critics suck!!! I will be watching this movie for ever!!! today will be my third time watching it, and i still love every second of it. Optimus and Bumblebee are soo bad ass, and i loved the twins too, they were great!!! just would have loved more screen time for Ironhide and Sideswipe. And yeah Megan Fox is hot, but she looked a lot better in the first movie without that much collagen on her lips

    ReplyDelete
  9. compared to the first one it would have deserved 5 million $ instead of 55$!

the critics are right....movie is not good! i can't believe you guys like it!

and yeah....i loved the first one!

  13. We would be taking my kids if they would stop putting all the inappropraite stuff in. I mean it's like a group of old guys decide. Hey let's take a CHILDREN'S TOY, and mix it in with my little fantasy of young girls in Daisy Dukes. And then on top of that my son's heros the autobots are dropping curse words every five minutes!! The sad thing is I loved Transformers! The effects were great.Even the first one. My boys would get their transformers out and whenever Optimus or Bumblebee would change they would hurry and start to transform their toys. But I can't expose a 8 and 5 year old to the second one. I already have to fast forward parts in the first one.Which ticks me off, when we have seriously invested close to $200 in transformer toys alone. Because my boys love them so much! My boys were very disappointed that they will have to wait until can get a edited copy or something. All I can say is Hollywood sucks when it comes to families and letting kids keep their innocence. And you grown men that put these movies together can you try not to be such sleazebags!! The sexual content is SERIOUSLY so NOT needed to make this movie good. It can stand on it's own without all that crap!

  14. Oh, and thanks for letting me vent. If I had the resources I would send my complaints to the appropriate people. I have no idea where to send that letter. LOL But I'm trying to raise three good men here. And I wish Hollywood would stop with the negative influence.

  15. Hmm...I went to the Imax theater in Kennesaw GA, and the 1:30 show on Wednesday still had 100 seats left. The 8:30 show was sold out - but it was the only one, at the time.

My only gripe was that the action sequences were a little hard to follow - i will be doing much more slow-mo when i get the dvd, and that certain bots really didn't get that much screen time. I was looking forward to seeing Arcee combine, More of Sideswipe and Sideways, and more of the story behind the pretender, constructicon droids, and other "droid bots" the pretender reminded me of terminator 3, especially with the tongue. But all in all, it was a decent movie.

  16. Anon 1:07 makes a great point , I think only 15 yr old Transformers Fans can actually enjoy this, most of the older ones I spoke to were disappointed with the portrayal of the robots and the story and cringed everytime they heard the jokes and all the innuendo

It is crass, it is downright stupid at times, but i guess that's what young moviegoers want nowadays along with their action .

I do understand though , sitting in the theatre and listening to all these teens laugh at humping jokes etc is depressing

  26. This MOVie was EPIC!!!!! Beyond EPIC. I think I might even like it better than the first one. I went to the theaters the same day it came out (10:15 showing) and in my VERY small town, there was a line around the CORNER!!!! I've never seen that many people at our movie's theater...not even for SpiderMan 3! It was crazy. And can I just say that I laughed my @$$ off...but I could have done without so much cursing! I still give it 5 stars. Prime really takes the cake in this film! WOW. He kicked @$$ relentlessly! I want to see it again!!!

PS...the Critics have totally lost my faith in them if they think this movie was anything less than right under Dark Night (...but I think it was better)

  27. Accidently rejected these comments:

    From Anonymous:
Parents that complain about the sexual jokes are just plain dumb. Jokes are jokes but none of it will cause your kids innocense. You as a parent alone, should take the matter on your own hands and don't blame, movies and other things that has dirty jokes in it. Maybe if you quit looking at child porn online and give your kids more attention probably they'll grow up as good adults.

    From Anonymous:
I didn't view the twins as black when I saw the film -- I wasn't even aware one of the actors was black. I read them as poor urban white folk, even to the point of inbred due to the enormity of the ears.

If you think a gold tooth and poor vocabulary denotes a dark skinned human being, than perhaps you are the one that's racist.

    Touchy, sensitive, distorted opinions.

I don't know how to contact the author of this blog. However, I want to pass along some information.

My close friend has inside knowledge in regards to Hasbro wishings. On Tuesday night, Hasbro recieved a private screening in North Attleboro, MA. Michael Bay may not be back for TF3 for several reasons, and one might entail that Hasbro wants another direction with Transformers.

Maybe there is some truth that you can only go so far before getting fired. Too many sex jokes that don't fly over little kids heads is generally not a good idea.

LOL!!! You are more uptight than my aunt! If this movie didn't have sexual and teen humor then it would suck. You do realize that Megan Fox wouldn't be as successful as she is if there wasn't supposed to be a sexy female. What makes that better is that if she wasn't used then the idea that Sam is in love with Mikaela wouldn't be sold right. plus a child seeing PG13 when your young isn't bad. I saw Star Wars episode 1 when I was 2 and a half. You parents ruin everything that's badass!

too bad if theres a new director for transformers. I thought MB did a good job. I can see with those jokes. But couldn't hasbro ask bay to not to any of those jokes in the 3rd movie.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Paramount may not want to wait till 2012 for tf3 anyways and go with another director.

  30. My source at Hasbro essentialy said that the majority of staff at the company thought that 1 was better. 2 had some good interaction. According to him/her, the guy who calls all the shots wasn't all too pleased with the film. I have a feeling that it got to far away from the Hasbro age groups.

Hasbro calls all the shots on Transformers. I wouldn't be surprised if Bay wasn't offered another shot. I have a hard time telling my friends with 5-7 yr olds to go see the movie, unlike the last one.

MB is a great director for summer flicks that don't target the entire age spectrum. The Rock and Armegeddon are classic flicks. TF1 is However, he was unchecked on this one by the companys, and we can see that he annihalets the orginal age group, the 30-40 yr olds from '84. I think that Hasbro will have a lot more say in the 3rd one. I get the feeling from Pawtucket that this is not the first.

  31. I hope this movie blows away everything this summer. There were sex jokes in the first and plenty of cursing as well, but odd ... no complaints then, huh? Also funny that parents have a problem with the foul language but seem ok with people and robots dying in spectacular fashion and guns everywhere. By the way, the same thing happened in the original cartoons, or don't you remember? You so-called parents are a joke. Take your kids to see Harry Potter and don't ruin it for the rest of us that can handle it. I have a feeling most of these negative critics are Harry Potter fanboys wanting to slow the movies progress.

PS: It's pg-13 you fools! Why would you be surprised by the content?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cambee,

Well that wouldn't be a bad idea if hasbro had a more say in how tf3 is done esepcially in the writing department but a change of director might take away what good parts Bay did in the movies.

If hasbro calls the shots why didn't they do that while the script was being written and during production?

Is hasbro waiting to see how tf2 does before decide to bring Bay back? Bay is signed for 3 movies.

  33. gstommylee @ 11:28PM has a good point. Never forget that Hasbro is a company in a capitalist country (which I believe is not a bad thing). This means that while Hasbro has a voice in the making of this movie, it is certainly not the only voice. And just like any of the other other companies involved, their focus is on making money. If that means borrowing ideas from a Japanese cartoon in the 80's to sell to kids in America, great. If it means making a PG-13 movie out of their toys and have it open with a $60 million DAY, then so be it.

Bay would only be replaced if the movie failed badly and it was cheaper for them to buy him out.

  34. LOL. K I think it's so funny how people get so vicious on blogs. I would like to clear up a few things on my statement about being disappointed that my kids 8 and 5 won't be able to see TRansformers. First of all I'm a Mom, not a Dad. Second, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but those of you that slammed me. I would be so interested to know if you have children of your own? I think people with kids kind of get where I'm coming from. I'm in total agreement with the statement about violence, it is hard to have my kids watching such violent scenes, but I didn't see the harm so much when it Robots fighting robots. And honestly, I stopped letting them watch the animated series, when I heard one of the characters call Aracnaphobia(?) a HOAR. I did kind of laugh as an adult when I heard it. More shocked than anything. But Yes, the joys of having your eight year old ask, "Mom what's a hoar?" It's kind of sad to see them have to ask those things at such a young age. I know it's coming and I won't be one to shelter them from the world. And your right I don't know how much they would get at that age, but you are very ignorant to think that visual or certain verbage doesn't effect or stay in ones mind. Old or young. But can't they have their innocence as long as they can? Secondly, we don't take our kids to PG-13 movies. That's why we went and saw it first. To see if we could make an exception, and maybe have them close their eyes, etc... What can I say they LOVE Transformers. And I think it's sad the Hollywood forgets these little people that dare I say may be as big of fans as some of you adults. BUT are denied their right as a wide eyed child, (fascinated with a robots) to see the movie. Because another scum bag director *cough* Michael Bay has to insert, and go to the extreme of tasteless material. I mean you guys think about? Would you really like the movie any less if they didn't have the dog humping Megan Fox's leg? If your answer is 'YES" than you are a bigger MORON that I thought. And as I said before. I actually loved the movie, and there were some very funny lines, and I love it when the good guy wins! AND I heart Optimus! I probably know more about the characters than most of you. Since that's all we talk about in this house my family consisting of the male species and just me. So lighten and stop getting so nasty when a little old Mom would like her kids to be able to hang onto their childhood AND want them to be able to see their heros on the big screen too.Seriously, don't we enough crap thrown in our faces! And DON'T say...well turn it off if you don't like it! Oh, I get so sick that comment! sincerly, just a Mom looking out for the little people.

  36. Hasbro has ownership rights to Transformers, which means they make the yes or no on who makes the movies. Currently, Paramount is licensed to produce the film/distribute. My understanding is that Hasbro is not thrilled that one of their main lines is getting phased out of target audinece by lose movie direction.

The majority of orginal fans are 30ish, which means that they are having kids in the 2-10 range. The goal was to get large crowds to share the experience and make more bang for the buck by getting a 2nd wave of generation hooked on. The movie easily was a pg-13. In the first, I recall them trying to cut a few things in an attempt to get PG. Simply put, Hasbro is happy, but the long term vision of the company is slowed due to a semi-poor direction by Michael Bay.

    Also, http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00025097.html

Rumors start from somewhere. If I understand timeline correctly, the only people able to see TF2 prior 6/19 would be japanese critics and execs from the parent companies. Just something to think about. I don't think that people would be entirely opposed to new direction. Also, this was produce in the prime of the writers strike. Only time will tell. Overall, its going to make $800 billion worldwide.

  37. To Anonymous Mom @ 12:53AM:

I watched Transformers, GI Joe, Voltron ... all of those as a kid, and get this - there are scenes in there and dialouge that the sensors today would never allow in today's time (including the term "real American hero" but don't get me started). I watched many horror and sci-fi movies, including Terminator and Predator. Now there were some movies that my parents didn't let me watch because of nudity and extreme violence. By extreme violence I mean it was not of the sci-fi type, but just bloody and mean and senseless that would have really bothered me as a child. Some of those bother me even today at 32. My childhood was still great and so innocent. I wish I could watch movies the way I did then. I remember them so fondly.

At the age of eight I had seen dogs "humping", had them do it to my leg (didn't really know what they were trying to do, but thought they looked funny as hell), and at that age knew enough about my body from school lessons that I wouldn't have been shocked to see a metal-pair in a movie. Innocence at any time, decade, century, is fleeting. By the age of 8 you know better, whether your parents want you to or not. At 5 my interest was roadrunner and looney toons, anything that wasn't a cartoon wasn't worth watching.

And as for ROTF being tasteless? Really? No, tasteless, crude humor that is over the top is what you find in the Austin Powers movies. ROTF had jokes ... some were dumb jokes, yes ... but they were far from being tasteless.

To see someone get so upset over 3 or 4 scenes in a 2 1/2 hour movie is amazing to me, especially when they weren't as bad as it could have been. In your first post you totally bashed the movie, a movie that was well within its PG-13 rating. PG-13 means the movie should be watched by those 13 and older, and if the child is 13 to 16 they should be with a parent in case it becomes too much. The movie was intended for teenagers and older, and trying to cut it down to fit in the view of a 5 and 8 year old is a lot to ask. I said this once, I'll say it again ... take them to see Harry Potter if you want PG. You say you're protecting your children, but what you really want is Bay to protect them for you.

By the way, I make movies and there is no way in HELL I'm going to take my vision and toss it to meet the vision of someone else because they want their 5 year old to see it too!!!!

    -Kek

PS: We have the RIGHT to make the movies we want (within reason, of course), and you have the RIGHT to decide you don't want to see it. People these days want their cake and eat it too, it seems.

  38. First of all to the parents this is a pg 13 movie....as a good parent you shouldnt let your kids under 13 see this movie. second we dont want you to bring your rugrats to the movies anyways because they dont shut up and cant stay in their seats. we dont pay good money to hear you tell little jonny to come back her and sit down as he yells down the stairs. Great movie!!!Go and see it.

  39. Resonse to Cambee @ 1:37AM:

PG-13 is the sweet spot for the general audience, and Hasbro knows this. Make it PG and only 10 year olds will drag their parents to it. Sure, good numbers there, but nothing compared to a PG-13 rating, where you get the interest of 10 year olds, 16 year olds, and their parents, and single adults. Push it too much to an R rating and now you start to loose some numbers again.

Hasbro knew what they were doing, knew what was in the movie, and with the current box office numbers I bet they are giggling in their offices.

That article you linked to is "yellow journalism". Bay disputed that story.

  40. Okay I've had enough! This lady needs to get off the blog. I'm 12 turning 13 in September. I have always used to watch Transformers Armada every weekend early in the morning for my enjoyment when I was six. I have been HUGE Transfan since the first film came out. My mom didn't mind me seeing sexual jokes cuz I was on the ege of turning in to teenager and I established a big crush on the Hollywood hottie Megan Fox. If your son can't see Transformers 2 at age 8 then maybe you haven't taken them to see the first one. My cousin is turning 8 in a few days and he saw it but nothing messed with him. This is a new generation ya know? Ratings are sometimes made by the media just to tease your little tiny ignorant soccermom minds. Transformers has to be the most badass live-action franchise of the decade and I'm not gonna let you ruin it for me since I'm seeing it tommorow night. And what do you mean you kno more about transformers than we do? you have to be obsessed or have read the comics over and over again to be a Transfan. no offense but you are so full of yourself. I would know if you were a hardcore transformers fan by reading your brutally inacurate comment. I may not be the biggest transfan in the world but I know I'm way higher up the latter than you are LOL! I've been ecstatic since they started filming this last Jue. I've been watching the first film every week remembering every line from it as long as I remember. If you're gonna be a snotty selfish mom who thinks she's all that and is gonna criticize one of the biggest movie of my life, then go talk to your snotty soccermom friends.

Transformerslive Author I really hope I haven't disappointed you or this " mom " on your blog. I just want all the criticism to stop cuz i really have been looking forward to this film and I don't want it to be ruined for me.

  41. KirkH @ 2:27AM:

I wouldn't go so far as to say she needs to leave the blog. She has the right to her opinion, and as long as her statements are within the website author's guidelines she can post them.

What I took issue with is her bashing of a PG-13 movie because it was too much for her 5 and 8 year olds to watch. Technically, a movie like this (with this rating) is aimed at 13 and older, and taking anyone younger is at your discretion. Bay didn't overstep his rating, and the scenes were rather tame compared to many other PG-13 movies.

She has her standards for her household, and nothing wrong with that, but don't act like this movie was falsely misadvertised as a PG movie and rant like that and make statements to give the impression that the "men" who made this movie have dirty minds.

  42. Oh my- I must seriously be the worst writer at conveying my thoughts. I hear how you take them, and I'm just floored. You act as though it is bad that I don't want my kids to hear and see things. NO, you are right I can not keep everything from them. Nor did my parents with me. I too when I was young saw 'R" rated movies.I actaully don't even think they rated the movies when I was young. I too being 35 have experienced the world. Just as we all have. It was a lot different back then. Don't you think? Maybe I just see things differently now that I have kids that I'm suppost to take care of. And YES people have EVERY right to make whatever movies they want! I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to accomadate my 8 and 5 year old. LIKE I SAID!!!! That's why I went and saw the movie and made the choice for my kids. Can I NOT be disappointed, because my kids were bummed they couldn't see it. I mean if you read the comments by Cambee. Even Hasbro had concerns about the content, and the audience it reached. Because Dugh!- transformer's is in the genre of my kids age group you idiot!!!! I mean for you to make a comment like "what you really want is Bay to protect them for you"? I'm just not sure what your point is? That it might be to much to hope that maybe... my kids and I could hang out as a family and go see a movie together. Oh my hell, heaven forbid that I would want something so horrible. So if I'm understanding you correctly. I need to just be more open to the content my kids see? Not be so uptight right? Not sure how it's going to affect you son. Because ya know there's this guy on a blog that told me apparently he saw a several things when he was a child. A dog even humped his leg?LOL And he is just fine! Sir, you are all the more reason. That I am so stinkin scared for the upcoming generations. We live in a society that view it WRONG to want what is best for your kids. That as a parent we are some kind nutcase because we love our kids. And want them to have good positive experiences in their youth. Money is what dictates a sense of no morals. Know this... there is ALWAYS consequence to EVERYTHING.Small or big. And the line between black and white get's grayer and grayer. Where do you draw the line? WE live in a world that the content that is around us is WAY more tothe extreme than it was when we were young. My hell we didn't even have the internet or cell phones. So don't you dare compare the present with the past. Kids are seeing SOOOOO much more than we ever did. Anyways, I can see you pride yourself on being the 'badass'. And that you have no compasion for those parents out there trying to do their best. So really there isn't anything left to say. Oh except can you let me know what movie your making. So I can make sure I NEVER see it! Thanks! And my point exactly Kirk you are TWELVE and your on a blog at 2 am in the morning talking smack. Ah, yes another great man in works! And Kirk I am almost postive you will LOVE Transformers!!! The dog humping and everything! LOL! I had no idea hanging on the Transformer Live Action blog could be so entertaining! Happy movie viewing to all!

  43. I live in Vegas plus it's the summer. You'll see once your kids are teens that they sleep during the whole day that they stay up so late. Plus, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I'm just tired of people thinking that the best movies that win the box office are too mature to everyone under it's rating. Take your kids to see it. If they really want to see it take 'em. They'll thank you. If they don't understand something then tell your oldest one. I was seven when i learned about sexuality and it may have seemed weird but I didn't mind it. Movies are made to enetertain and i happen to be a really hardcore transfan so this film is really important to me. Anyone who calls a minor an idiot is probably upset with themselves. And tommorow is the last night with my mom for the summer + the school year ocurring at my grandmoher's.

Ps. I see my dogs (both female) hump eachother all the time. It actually is really entertaining and funny. My grandfather's dog humps my leg too.

  44. I'm not making a movie but I plan to be in one soon. i want to be an actor as my career so I can see what it's like to be in a film like this.(There probably will never be a film as good as this one) If you think that I'm a bad kid then maybe it's because I'm more rebellious and mature than you expect me to be. This film is like to a religioun to me. I even designed a kickass wicked autobot for my mom's(mine when I'm 16) 1992 BMW convertible named Hound. I happen to be proud for being an artist and a future actor who loves transformers. Wow, these word vertifications sure are queer.

  45. Ok Kirk I have to say your last two comments made laugh! You are pretty witty kid- I apologize... most of my comments was directed to Kek. Except the last one to you. I shouldn't say those kinds of things to you, being a 12 yr old. Me being 35. I should act like it. And I don't think you are a bad kid at all! I think I have issues with men. Don't get me wrong. I actaully have some pretty amazing men in my life. Maybe that's why I have such a high standard as to the responsibility men have as being protectors and influencer for good. Instead of spending their time bashing a Mom who is trying to protect her kids. And defending the likes of Michael Bay that makes millions of dollars off young kids such as yourself. . Thus, my reponses. So, I have misspoke with bashing on Men. That was not my intent. I wish I could take my kids to it. But I just feel like there too young. And that's why I feel sad for them. Because they are crazy transformer fans! All my son does is draw pictures of transformers. Were talking 3 dimensional art work! And I'm on the hunt at the moment trying to find him Shockwave! I'll get an edited version or something of the DVD for them. I'll find away. Haha! And no my kids are not going to be up late when there teenagers. Because I am one of those hardass Mom's! That have eyes in the back of my head. LOL.J/k people. I really am a cool Mom. My boys and I have a blast! But Kirk that's my point. You have a huge love for transformer's. Which that is awesome! But I get tired of hollywood preying on the huge following that they can influence either way. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavours as an actor. Like I said I know you'll love the movie. Just shut your eyes on the bad parts.LOL. *wink* Now get your butt to bed! I can't believe I keep writing on this blog. I seriously have so much work to do!

  46. The film is rated PG-13, Anonymous Mom. Keep your “j/k people” and your “I [optional qualifier] am a [insert random wholesome trait here] Mom” shtick, please. Not all of us sympathize with your angle on things. So you’re a parent. So?

This is in lieu of a reasonable response.
