Orci, Kurtzman Not Returning

Roberto Orci has confirmed that he and his writing partner Alex Kurtzman are not returning to write Transformers 3 on the Don Murphy forums.
So Bob and Alex is it true. you wont be involved this time round.
It's true.

Sorry to hear that Roberto, really I am. Are we in good hands with Mr. Kruger? Does he know his Transformers?
He does. He really did his homework. He's awesome.
There you have it. Orci and Kurtzman are out, Ehren Kruger is in. Whether that is good news or not probably depends on your feelings regarding much of the humor of the second film (the Twins, Devastator's balls, etc) as most of that came from the minds of Bay and Kruger. As always, time will tell. Link from TFW2005.

  1. these guys didn't do well on ROTF but they did with Star Trek so I don't if this news is good or bad. either way, bay should not go anywhere near the script. hire people to write, you're a director bay.

  2. Orci and Kurtzman are amazing writers. I love the TF films, but anything bad about them you can blame on Bay. If I were them, I'd step down, too. Bay does nothing but sh*t on those guys.

  3. You can't really blame Devastator's balls on the writers. Probably more the CGI Crew/Bay.

  4. I so hated the jokes in Revenge of the Fallen. I could barely understand what the twins were saying because their accent was so thick (hard for nonAmericans) and all the sexual jokes just showed the immaturity of whoever came up with them.

  5. Doesn't matter to me. I'm a big fan of Bad Boys 1 and 2, Armageddon, The Rock, and The Island. None of those were written by Orci and Kurtzman.

Personally I'm all for the raunchy humor and sexual jokes, but that's just me. ^_^ I think that if we're in the lifestyle of collecting plastic dollies, then I'm not likely to grow up any time soon.

  6. ROTF movie has earned a lot on money, if only they made it really good storyline, it could have surpassed the dark knight or better yet titanic..

  7. @LionBoogy: Orci&Kurtzman co-wrote The Island. However, their Fringe tv series written for J.J.Abrams absolutely sucks, it's just awful.
And Star Trek movie is nothing more than an expensive good tv episode, far from an excellent movie--and it's full of silly jokes that don't work on Star Trek.
Alan Dean Foster should co-write the screenplay along with Ehren Kruger. The Transformers novels written by Foster are much better than the movie scripts. Bay should use the writer for the movie script of Transformers3 and not just for the novel.

  8. hm, I liked the sense of humor, otherwise the movie would be too serious

  10. I think this is a good thing. They are good at story ideas, but poor execution. Star Trek was a good movie, but not in the spirit of Star Trek in my eyes.

  11. Try bringing in some of the TF veteran writers, like Bob Budiansky (G1), Simon Furman (comics), Bob Forward (BEAST WARS), etc.

I'm sorry Kurtzman and Orci are leaving, but it's now just a matter of business. They did the first film for love and it shows, but they did the sequel for money and it SHOWS.

I hope Kruger does a good job, just as long as he tones down the crudity (the public has spoken - tone it down!) and amps up the epicness...

  12. Whoops, my bad, my mistake. Yup, Orci and Kurtzman DID co-write The Island, which I loved. But really, the writing wasn't what I paid attention to. I loved The Island because of the stylish visuals and explosive action that only Michael Bay can deliver.

I do agree however that having a better writer or team of writers could have possibly made TF2 a better movie by making it a darker more aggressive story. Who knows what we would've gotten if it went down that route. I'm sure it may have been more enjoyable a la The Dark Knight, but who knows.

  13. I'm glad especially after the mess that was ROTF.

  14. My advices to Kruger:

Don't puts in too much humors.

Bring more Intro of the Autobots/Decepticons

    More Robots and non-stop action.

    Good Luck!

  15. I liked orci and kurtzman but they may have the right idea in stepping down and allowing more fresh ideas to come into play. One thing I do hope is for not as many robots. ROTF fell into a trap where the fans got what they wanted and there was too much robot personality wasted because of it. Too many throw away robots..example Jolt..he was just part of the background. I would have liked to have seen more of Sideswipe. He seemed cool which having more robots was something I was afraid was going to happen with the personalities. If 3 is possibly the last one I hope it fixes the problems in ROTF (which was still a good movie)

  16. Ha! Alan Dean Foster is a joke. His first Transformers novel is the worst book I've read in years. The WORST. And that is not an exaggeration.

  17. I agree that more robots usually comes at the expense of character development. Instead of them standing around in the background, they should have fewer robots and integrate them more. I have not read Alan Dean Foster's books but I read bad reviews. Anyway I do not blame him because movie based books tend to suck anyway because the author has no feeling towards them as he/she did not create those characters.

  18. Transformers Live Action is in a serious bind for the third movie. Megatron and Starscream are borrring and confusing. Fallen was awful. Devastator is ruined now.

Just write in some more scrap metal bots with insect heads and blow up the planet. Make Bay happy and lets call it a day.

Maybe the next round of TF movies will hopefully be G1 Jap-animation movies. Right where this franchise belongs.

  19. @Jesse: then you don't read much and you obviously don't have a clue about who Alan Dean Foster is. He is a veteran in the sci-fi genre, he wrote a lot of books and some screenplays.
He wrote novels for Alien movies, Star Wars movies, Star Trek novels and tv series, and many famous sci-fi movies since the '70s.
Telling that he is a joke like you wrote it's a really silly childish statement. I wonder what other sci-fi books you are comparing his to.. and don't tell me Asimov or Bradbury that's a too obvious comparison that doesn't make sense because any sci-fi novel then would not look excellent when compared to the two most famous authors in the sci-fi genre.

  21. I don't care if Foster is a veteran. There are plenty of veterans of any media that are jokes. And yes, I do know what he has done in the past.

But what I don't know is what's more childish, saying that Foster is a joke or playing your little game of paper rock scissors by supplying you with better author names just to have you shoot them down.

Foster is a joke. Ghosts of Yesterday still stands as the worst book I've read in years.

Wtf,I love the plots of that TV series,it's even better than the X-Files,although it's my opinion.Fringe is cool!

Returning back to TF,I still feel that Alex and Roberto are good writers. However, if what they said that Ehren really does know the Transformers, then it doesn't really matter that much to me. If they still want to come back,I'll be delighted, after all, they, and Micheal Bay(for hard-core action fans) ,brought TF from the "dead" and made it so popular now.

  23. does anyone know where this guy came from? what else has he done? first one was great, second was horrible. transformers aren't just about eye candy, its about character, heart, sacrifice, etc etc. stop trying to hard to awe us and make us laugh at first grade humor and let the characters shine through.

  24. Ya... Hmmm..... Good bye any remnents of a storyline. Say hello to more megan fox crude humor and more crushed childhood memories and megan fox because that's become half the reason people see it now. It's not like anyone goes to the movies for entertainment anyway right. Don't get me wrong I knew what I was seeing when I entered the theater but then bay surprised me by taking jetfire making him a grandpa, killing devistator in like what 5 mins and the twins Ehhh it was funny untill their jokes became just one liners like what they called the new guy I didn't think it was funny idk maybe it was just me. I have no problem with bay just keep him out of the script and get rid of the new writer

  25. I agree totally with the last post. i wish they would stop writing for 8th graders and start writing for the true fans, those of us who grew up on them and are now in our 30's. we cherish these characters and want a real story line.
