TF3 Detroit: Set Prep and Transformers

J1000 is back on the case with information, pictures and video of the various shooting locations being used as production continues its possible final week in Detroit. It seems the Transformers 3 performed more infrastructure repair as several abandoned locations have been spruced up to look like stores fronts for filming. If missing a look at your favorite Autobot, he also has that covered with a few pictures of Prime, Bumblebee, and few others.
Today, I got to "Roll out" with Optimus and Ratchet, as I followed them from the Packard Plant to a new location [video below] (The Connor Creek Detroit Edison Plant; nothing really to be seen here, as it's fairly well isolated from the surrounding area. It's the large plant with two smoke stacks in the pics). I got a chance to get some great pics of all the Autobots that were present as well. There were two Bumblebees, two Sideswipes, two Ferraris, and two of the Benzs. They were being washed and prepped for shooting. They were also filming at the Fisher Building downtown today.
There's a set being finished up at Clifford and Woodward, where they've built what looks like a fake subway entrance/stairwell type thing in the street, and have been decorating a building for a few days. Today they painted "Park in Rear" and some arrows on it. Right next door to it, they have decorated the vacant former Michigan National Bank building to look like a lingerie store window front (presumably something that matches Chicago). The building is vacant/empty if you look in through the front doors. I'm not sure if the "Cobras Club - Gentleman's club" is part of the set or not, though it may be, as the name is spelled wrong on one side of the sign). Also, Central Station was getting A/V/Power cable wrapped all around it as they prepped it for shooting on the outside (they've been doing interior work for at least a week now). Filming will be taking place in several areas over the rest of the week.

In the picture with the guy washing the blue benz there is a big red truck in the background. same parking lot. Then at 10 seconds into the video the same truck follows optimus around the corner, but we don't see much more of it. What do we think about it peoples. might be nothing might be something more.

  2. There where older pics with a red fire truck. People though it to be either Sentinel Prime, Rodimus Prime or (hopefully) Ultra Magnus.

  3. Nope, that fire truck is a Detroit Fire Department truck, and was just there for escort/business purposes. They escorted Prime about 3/4 of the way to the other location, then broke off. Not related to the film.

  4. Nelson said the fire truck's name will faint fandom, when it comes out. So I don't think Ultra Magnus is the fire truck. And definitely not Rodimus Prime. Sentinel Prime would be very unexpected name, but how they're going to explain his appearance if Optimus was originally thought to be the only living Prime? Well, maybe he's the one who tells the Autobots about Shockwave or that secret that's found out in 1960s.

  5. Got my 10.5 hours in yesterday working as an extra in downtown Detroit filming in the Fisher building and around that area. I can't remember the last time I had a 10+ hour day at my normal job! Learned some things about the story... I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you!

  6. Then you are just making things up.

Considering the fact I live across the Atlantic Ocean I'll take the risk of you telling.

    :)

Wow, with the two BB's, Sideswipes, Ferrari's and Mercs, they probably expect or maybe are going to wreck a car or two in some wreckless driving or amazing stuntwork!
I know there are almost always extra cars for stuntwork(except for BB in TF1) and maybe no cars get wrecked, but I'm expecting a crazy ass carchase from Bay with these cars.

  8. Well, I signed a confidentiality agreement so I really can't say anything. Michael Bay did give me direction personally ("Hey you! Do this") and Josh Duhamel said hi to me! He was very friendly to all of us. Bay is a very precise and technical director, it seems. He wants to get very specific on how he lines up his shots and we did a LOT of takes.

  13. I had to grin like an idiot when I saw the video. Of all the videos and pics of the bots I've seen, I don't think I've ever seen a fan actually following them. That was awesome!!!!

Hey J100 thanks for that info about the detroit fire truck, i just noticed it in both and it looked pretty cool. So thanks for clearing that up. oh thanks for understanding which truck i was talking about. Not the one in Chicago that looks nothing like this one.

  16. All Chicago potraying scenes are not filmed in Chicago. Detroit is said that it potrays Chicago.

  17. With all of the stuff we have seen filmed, Not much of regular day to day acting, Mostly Fight and run or destruction stuff. Have not seen much of Person to person Interaction. Not saying its has not been done. However, with the locations they are talking about. Something tells me this movie is not taking place just on earth this time. The Moon, Mars, and other Space scenes I think may be in this movie, this time around, more then the last 2 films. but hey its about the Space Race, so Hopefuly thats a given.
