Transformers 3 Moves to Fifth All-Time

Transformers: Dark of the Moon's domestic run is coming to a close as it drops out of the US top ten but not before hitting another milestone. The movie, with a $1071.2 million total, is now fifth in the worldwide all-time box office moving past Pirates 4 ($1066.2M) and Toy Story 3 ($1063.2M). The next movie on the list is The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King at $1119.1 million but it is unlikely to pass that total.

As for the weekend box office, US side an estimated $1.35M was added for domestic total of $347 million. International sales added another $12.5 million, most of it from Japan ($4.6M) and China ($4.7M) who were last in getting the movie for an international total of $724 million. I am guessing the movie is about 2 weeks away from ending its primary run and moving into the cheap seat theatres.

  1. I'm thrilled it's moved up on the list. I knew it would reach the billion dollar mark, but I had assumed it would place 10th on that list. 5th is pretty good. I really hope they make more Transformers movies. Not sure how I'd feel about a reboot vs maybe doing the star wars thing and making a trilogy preceeding the 1st transformers movie. I hope they do prequels. That would be a great way to have everyone's favorite bad guys back in, and maybe they could show Bumblebee talking and then the battle that cost him his voice? So many possibilites!!!! How about showing Cybertron and how the war got started? Just tossing out ideas here. If they do more movies, I still want Peter Cullen!

  2. that is probably the greatest idea ive heard for them to do yet! i would love prequels sooo much for all of those reasons and i couldnt agree with you more!...now you've got my hopes up for what's to come haha

  5. Maybe if it had opened up in asian markets earlier it would have hit these numbers earlier. Everyone should take a page from potter, if you want the speed records open wider than everyone else.

  6. wow the movie is real good!! it's full of adrenalin rush as always.. i thought it was really the end of autobots when their ship went explode.. yet i miss one thing, Megan Fox.. I mean Rosie is good but i like Megan more.. I miss her running with witwicky in all her sexiest aura.. She got sexier eyes and lips.. hope she could come back for transformers 4....hehe...

  7. Yes, I agree...bring Fox back...Carli was awful...that whole "sentinal's bitch" speech was terrible. She should have been fusion cannoned! Also, the whole teddy bear scene didn't work...you will never do better than MF leaning over bumblebee's engine discussing "squirting the fuel in faster!"

  8. Are you serious, Have you seen Megan FOX lately she looks horrible, she's ruined, she's skinny as a rail her face is disfigured do to plastic surgery and every movie she's been in besides transformers has been a dismal failure. Rosie is one well rounded babe, she's got such a better personality than MF, just so much more charming and classy than MF could ever be. MF was decent in the 1st movie but thats it. Rosie is the good luck charm to help you think pusitive!!! ha ha ha ha!!!

  9. Happy as I am for our 'Bots, it saddens me to see the best movie ever, Toy Story 3, be continually pushed down by the new movies. :\

  10. I got to be honest I did not think DOTM was going to do this good even with the 3d. I knew it would be a massive blockbuster no matter what. I don't know when but there will be a fourth movie, Hopefully within 5 years. These numbers are incredible.

GREAT IDEAS man! I thought the same thing, prequels! But I didn't think of the Bumblebee idea, which I think is awesome! I would love to see it in TF4!

@TFLAMB WRONG! it'll probably move into cheap theatres in late september. thats how it went for rotf. and considering that tthe movie is doing extremely-over-the-top-well, it'll probably be kept in theaters longer.

Transformers isnt for sex appeal. and the whole "sentinels bitch" and teddy bear scene, um they were sexy enough to me. i loved it when i saw roise walk up to that megatron and tell him to his face what his fate really is. megan only did one thing. she was pointless little shit in the entire first films. and the teddy bear scene was very cute on my opinion. the scene with megan leaning over bumblebee was funny only because of shia labeouf's acting, but it wasnt cute.
rosie has a much better attitude like 100 times better. she acts like she enjoys it and is proud of being in transformers and goes on the ellen show to talk about how great tf was and not criticize like megan did on SNL. i liked how in transformers one she wasnt shia's pet and i like how in transformers 3 rosie isnt shia's pet. she doesnt follow him everywhere. she actually has a purpose and her car was soundwave so she interacted with the robots more than once! these guys arent transformers fans. go watch twilight if its sex you all care about!

wtf? are you a transformers fan or what? everyone is happy but you. how about you go somewhere. really this potter vs transformers shit means nothing. and if you take into consideration that its taken transformers only three movies to cross one billion and harry potter eight, then you'll recognized how much of a better franchise tf is and will be in the future. this is to all of you who have been criticizing transformers and saying how great harry potter is, because really transformers is the franchise and you know it, your just so quick to trash talk it. cough ccough TFLAMB cough cough!

The person at 8:21 8/15/2011 was merely stating the truth that HP opened in more foreign theaters as it has a wider appeal.

As for TF only taking 3 movies to cross a billion, inflation has had a huge influence on the grosses. This is the first time in history that three movies from the same year have grossed a billion.

"It's important to note that while overseas ticket price inflation data is tricky to come by, Deathly Hallows Part 2 or TF3 would obviously not rank third all-time in ticket sales. It's sold fewer tickets than Return of the King, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and many older movies as well." -bomojo

It's not as easy to compare the 2 franchises together
