Transformers: The Movie Turns 25 Today

Today is the 25th Anniversary of the release date of Transformers: The Movie, the true first movie for the one of the most successful toy and now movie franchises in the world. While the movie didn't do so hot in theatres, it seems it did just fine in home video sales since the movie keeps getting re-issued. This movie is why most Generation One fans bring up Unicron, proof that Optimus Prime is a bad@$#, and Hot Rod is an idiot among other now iconic aspects of Transformers.

  2. This NEEDS a Blu-Ray face-lift. And it's the perfect timeframe for it.

  6. Happy Birthday Transformers. Still plenty of badbots in the Transformers universe for a TF4. Unicron! Flee for your lives. Optimus!

  7. I grew up with this movie. :)

I have fond childhood memories of slo-moing the entire movie to study the animated scenes and watching for all the imperfections. I can't even tell you how many times I've watched the Daniel and Hot Rod hoverboard scene with the "Dare" song over and over again. It was just soooo cool at the time.

    Good times, good times~

  8. Only made a little more then $5,800,000. I guess it was not shown over seas. What a difference 25 years and an international fanbase can make.

  9. I love the '80 comics.
    I appreciate the '80 cartoons.
    I love Bay Transformers pt1 & 3.

I totally think the cartoon movie from 86 is crap.
Bad script, bad story, hate rodimus, hate sharkticosn, hate quintessons, everything crap.

Someone mentioned that a blu-ray release was in order for Transformers: The Movie. Well, I have one...

I know it's not the best, but what more can you expect from a 25 year-old animated movie?

  11. Oh sweeet! I had no idea. Ironic thing is, is I've just been watching my G-1 seasons 1-4 on my laptop the last few days, and finished seasons 3 and 4 today, waiting to get off the boat and back to base. I guess it's just the Transformers vibe. I agree, they should put that movie on Blue ray. I'll even take a regular dvd. I'll add it to my other G-1 stuff.

  14. The scene where Optimus does that jump scene shoot the decepticons while in the air..reminds me of Dark of the moon while he is flying an slicing the decepticons...Also where sentinal prime kills ironhide...looks almost like when megatron kills ironhide in the TF movie..just a thought..

  16. I tell you... Transformers: The Movie IS on blu-ray... And even though it is from the U.K., there is no region coding and the disc plays on my player here in Canada.

  17. It would be good if they could go over the original storyboard for the movie and do those scenes involving mirage, red alert and so on.
And also give them a few lines,i bet a lot of people are still wondering why the other G1 tfs are not mentioned or not seen or just standing motionless saying feck all !!!
