Cullen, Welker Comment on Transformers 4 at TF The Ride Grand Opening

Today was the grand opening of Transformers: The Ride in Orlando, Florida. On hand for the event was the now 30 years strong voice of Optimus Prime Peter Cullen and legendary voice actor Frank Welker (Megatron, Devastator, more). While on the red carpet, Zap2It spoke with the actors about Transformers 4. Cullen commented on Optimus Prime's new look while Welker was unable to confirm if he would be voicing anyone in the fourth film. More pictures from the opening can be found here. Thanks to Wynton R. for the link.
[Peter Cullen] once again be voicing the Autobot leader in "Transformers 4," and shared his thoughts about Optimus Prime's new look.

"I'm always fascinated by the design changes because what could be more realistic than something that transforms and can change itself," Cullen told Zap2it. "And cars change every year. They come off the design tables and the clay models and before you know it you've got a brand new look to a car. I like it that way. I'm excited to find out what Mr. Bay is going to do for the next look. After all, he's always going to look like that [the Optimus Prime statue on Transformers: The Ride 3D]. He's always going to transform into something pretty close to that."

Welker, meanwhile, voiced Decepticons like Devastator, Soundwave and Barricade in the "Transformers" movies, and still isn't sure if he'll be back and taking over Megatron duties in Bay's latest installment of the franchise.

"Yet to be determined," Welker admitted. "I'm not sure. I did the last two. I'm waiting to see and usually I don't know until the very end, but I'm really looking forward to seeing what Michael does. He always outdoes himself, so he's got big shoes to feel when he's got to fill his own shoes. It will be a lot of fun to see what he comes up with."

"Being a part of it, that's what is the phenomenon now," he said. "We go back and our involvement has transcended all these generations: child to father and child to now the theme parks, from Singapore to Los Angeles to now Orlando. The phenomenon of 'Transformers' itself is mind shaking. Being a part of it is not only historical, it's a part of your life that says, 'Gee, I'm glad. I did something in my life that stood out,' and I'm really grateful for that. Humbled by it."

  1. If they tried to make a Transformers film without those two guys I'd urn the theater down. Maybe not, but I'd dump my popcorn on the floor on the way out.

  2. Maurice, I totally agree. It should be a CARDINAL SIN to not include Welker & Cullen in TF media. To think that people had to voice their feelings LOUDLY about this really is telling IMO. . .

  3. Maybe Welker could do Galvatron since Agent Smith has bad mouthed Michael Bay. Maybe Bay will do to him what he did to Meghan Fox and can his ass. Then Welker could voice Galvatron.

I agree. Transformers / Cullen / Welker are synonymous. You can't have one without the other.

I agree. But with Megatron dead now, hopefully he stays dead, so Hugo Weaving probably will not return to voice Megatron.

So finally Frank Welker can voice Galvatron, at least that is what we all expect, don't we? Or any new Decepticon leader that's in the movie. But it has to be Galvatron, it's the most logical step forward.

If Bay decides to bring Megatro again, I don't know what to think. It has to be very, very, very original, to make the fans happy.
