Transformers 4 China Set Gets Interesting Addition

In a new update from the China set being built in downtown Detroit for Transformers 4, Jerry B. discovered a new addition to the set (his previous pics here and here). A blue styrofoam cylindrical contraction is being constructed on a large wooden base. Usually a blue prop is a signal that visual effects will be used to fill out the rest of the piece but it is needed as the actors will be interacting with it physically in some way. In the past that include a blue portion of Prime's shoulder being built or a blue mock-up of the Decepticon ship that Shia LaBeouf rode on in Dark of the Moon.

So what do you think? A new space ship? Portion of a Transformer and if so what character? Maybe a portion of a building for when TF4 production moves to China? I doubt the film stars will be sent to China so maybe it is a means of filming those scenes without actually setting foot in the country. It will be interesting to find out. Thanks to Jerry below are more pictures of the blue prop along with a good look at some of the built in damage to the set as well as subway car that apparently plays a part in whatever the set is for.

  4. I'd hope for Astrotrain, but I know that's silly. Maybe the train blows up or someone is inside or something.

Plus, it has an American flag on it, and the set is supposed to be somewhere in China. That's a little suspicious...

    1. Most NYC/DC/Chicago trains have flags on them, this one will likely be removed or edited out in post. :)

  5. I think the blue styrofoam cylindrical contraction could be part of Demolishor/Scavenger from ROTF. The Chinese scientists would probably be still studying him or something and some sort of experiment probably goes wrong which attracts the main Decepticon villain.

I think that is very plausible. That would be cool te see. In the left of the first picture, that sems to be another blue part, I guess that supposably would fit under the cylindrical thing.

It also could be a spacebridge, bc the Chicago train car is there. That the car goes through the space bridge or some kind. It is a bit strange the car is there. Questions, questions.

I'm really starting to love the Chinese set, it looks awesome.
I preferably think the Chinese have TF tech they experiment with.

  8. Yeah Martinus, the blue part is contoured like the top of a spaceship and will presumably mount on the base below the cylindrical blue thing. I think they're just building that out in manageable sections. That looked like it was 1/4 or 1/5 of the whole thing.

Thanx Ryan. I was right about the other blue part, it is indeed fitted now on the base below the cylindrical thing.

    1. Yeah i know, i was just stating maybe the scientists could be studying his dead corpse or something. I should have made that clear.

Doesn't matter if Demolisher is dead. All the Decepticons are dead. It is still Transformers technology. If the mad human scientists find a piece of the alien ships, that is also dead material, those ships are not alive as the Transformers themselves.
They could still take technology from that, just like they did with Megatron in TF1. Megatron was in stasis lock, the humans still took all technology from that.
So in my opinion, they can still learn and take knowledge from it.
And it is defenitly something the actors are going to interact with.

    3. "All the Decepticons are dead"

Remember all the Decepticons that came from the moon? And were all around the world planting the pillars? It's probably safe to say they're not all dead.

I meant the main Decepticon characters. But as you said, they are not all dead indeed. But I wonder if Bay will use those cons in the next story. I think they won't be mentioned storywise.

But what to think about all the dead Autobots that were left on The Ark on the Moon.
It could be that the humans went back to the moon and took some of the dead Autobots from The Ark back to earth and take tech from that.

  13. Or maybe it's just a part of the scenary that is more easy to build out of styrofoam than out of wood. It looks like a roof to me.
It might be painted later on...

No, no way, that bottom piece is way to easy to build. To build that bottom piece from wood is way more easier than make it from styrofoam, and to paint it or digitally color it in afterwards. That all would be more expensive than to build it from wood.

  14. Maybe so, but the fact that we've been told that this film takes place 4 YEARS AFTER DOTM kinda excludes Demolisher/Scavenger from the picture. Plus, why would they be studying a piece of a Transformer out in the open, instead of inside a closed, secure laboratory??? That would just throw any security considerations out the window.

Valid point. Even if it is still radio active, like Frenzy's head is, they could still contain it in a secure laboratory.
Then it almost has to be something that just crashed there.

  15. if you look really close at the bottom of the blue Styrofoam thing you can see that it is all broken up and damaged like it was in a crash or that it was damaged in some kind of battle is hong kong. i'll post pics later on my instagram.

  18. Djeeloo is correct; it is now painted dark green, and has been given the same burn hole damage spots as the surrounding buildings.
