Reshoot, Trailer Rumors

Two pieces of unconfirmed news regarding Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. One is a reshoot at Edwards Air Force Base and another involves the trailer.

From "KevKev", who found the article in the November 28th edition of his local newspaper, The Antelope Valley Press, and transcribed it for the website.
Transformers' return to Edwards

The Autobots and the Decepticons rolled out to the Antelope Valley last week, returning to Edwards Air Force Base.

A production crew for the sequel "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" was spotted Nov. 19 at the base, and appeared to be settling in for the remainder of the week. No other details were available as of press time.

The second "Transformers" project was last seen in the AV in September at the Service Rock Quarry, at Palmdale Boulevard and 75th Street East.

The production previously filmed at the quarry for about a week in mid-August, staging an action sequence featuring a helicopter, pyrotechnic explosions, wind machines, debris and gunfire. A crew spent about a month prepping at the site.

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" also filmed in July at Edwards Air Force Base. Several fan Web sites have posted pictures online allegedly taken the last time the crew visited the base.

They showed Autobot chief Optimus Prime being loaded onto a trailer, a couple of shiny silver sports cars and an assortment of other vehicles arranged outside a large hanger
If a reshoot occurred, chances are its second unit work that didn't involve Bay or the principle cast and is simply being used to fill out shots that the editing process determined was needed.

In regards to the potential trailer, Cody reports that someone he knows involved with Transformers 2 said they are "90% sure" that the trailer will premiere with The Day The Earth Stood Still which comes out December 12th. They also said the trailer was "finished about a month ago".

Considering that the trailer for Wolverine is debuting with TDTESS, it seems that there is an expectation that the movie will have a demographic that TF2 advertising would be aiming for. It’s also the last big budget popcorn movie of the year so last chance to get the most eyeballs aware that the sequel is coming before year end. After that, it seems to me that the next opportunity will not be until Watchmen in March. After Watchmen, the final theatrical trailer will premiere with Star Trek, no surprise since both are Paramount productions.

Thanks to KevKev and Cody for the information.

Update: Added the name of the newspaper and the date KevKev found the article. I tried to find it on their website but apparently a lot of what they print isn't mirrored on newspaper's site.

  8. I'm not holding my breath. I think some of this may be some of the tricks that Bay has pulled to confuse the hell out of us.

My prediction is this: there will be no TF trailer UNTIL either: a)christmas day, or b)New Years'. Even though the bulk of the film is in the can, there's NO WAY IN HELL they can have all the animation rendering done in time for a December 12th release, and there's no fucking way they could have a trailer cut UNLESS it's just the logo for TF2 and some quick shots WITHOUT ROBOTS in them.

I could be way off, but I'm trying not to get my horses up too high, and trying not to believe the hype. We'll see. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Peace. We'll see in 10 days.

  9. Firstly, I go to a movie every year on Christmas, it's tradition, and usually a horror movie at that (The wife likes them)

Secondly, I agree with the quarry comment, sounds like that's where Devastator may be formed.

  10. Simbatron,
I worked at a movie theater in high school, and dreaded working on Christmas, as it was one of the busiest days of the year. After everyone is done with seasonal festivities, they think "Hey, let's catch a movie with the family!" and proceeded to swamp us.

  11. Hey they promised us a trailer in November, I'm still pissed about that.

December 12th...I'm marking it on my calender now!

No one said, that we will get trailer in November, only that there will be more commercials about the movie...

  13. Don't forget about SuperBowl Sunday. That's always a big trailer release day. Bay will most definitely have one during the game.

  15. To the anonymous a few posts above me who says there's "no way in hell" they can have a trailer ready by Dec. 12: why is that? You're making it sound as if half the movie is gonna be the trailer. I remember the teaser for TF1 being a few shots of Scorponok, the last stage of Optimus' transformation after his arrival and a bunch of cars driving around. I'm sure at this stage, with actual filming having wrapped up about a month ago, there should be enough bits of footage to make a 60-90 second teaser trailer. You don't need much for a teaser, hence the name.

Like almost everyone, I'm thinking teaser in December (either with TDTESS or The Spirit) and longer trailers with Watchmen and Star Trek. I wouldn't be surprised if Bay and Paramount release an online trailer too, since it seems to be a popular thing to do these days.

And, before I forget, the most interesting thing that I noticed about the follow-up filming at Edwards was the mention of "a couple of shiny silver sports cars." Could it just be the backup to the Corvette that's going to be in the film? Or, is one Corvette Sideswipe - as has been rumored - and the other Sunstreaker? Sorry guys, just couldn't post without speculating.

  16. I can't wait until the trailer is revealed!! tf1 was a great movie and this should be the same!!!

  17. Here's the primary issue everyone seems to be forgetting (sorry if I missed it). TARGET AUDIENCE. Ergo, I would bet there WON'T be a trailer before The Spirit. A graphic novel adaptation (that sorry, I had never heard of until the trailer), chock full of boobs, boobs, and more boobs in all likelihood, is not going to be the stage for a TF 2 announcement trailer. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Spirit movie, but I've been to a dozen movies with that trailer in front, and I saw no excitement (or recognition for that matter) on anyone's face at any of them. Watchmen I could see, except it's a summer release. But remember, the teaser for the first movie (to the best of my knowledge - it's where I first saw it) debuted in front of Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Come on, think this through...

  18. To the anonymous person 3 posts above this, let's get one thing straight: I'm NOT saying that I know that half the movie is the trailer. But WHAT I DO KNOW is this: as stated in the SPECIAL FEATURES of the TF1 DVD, it takes 38 HOURS to render ONE FRAME OF ANIMATION. Now, YOU do the math: when it comes to 35mm film, how many frames are in a second? 24. Multiply that by 60, and then multiply that on and on, until you figure out how many hours it would take to render for a 2 1/2 hour movie, how many frames that would be, etc., etc., and you'll see for yourself, that's a DAMN HUGE amount of time. Also, KNOWING (or at best ,thinking to know based on all the stuff that's leaked out)that there's ALOT MORE ROBOTS THIS TIME AROUND, to me, is even more of a reason to consider the mathematics I just stated.

I also stated, "If I'm WRONG, then I'm wrong", especially knowing how Bay & Co. have been bullshitting to throw us off. I also said the following, which I will close with: WE'LL SEE.

  19. Consider this!

The first teaser for TF1 we saw was basically an intro to the film actually happening, approx a year before hand (the probe on Mars). As we all know TF2 is happening, I doubt we will get any such similar teaser this time round. The first teaser/trailer we got with actual movie footage, Skorpinok, Prime, etc... began development almost as soon as production began. Bay aimed for the trailer to be done by a certain date, regardless of the remainder of the movie being complete or not. If Bay has commissioned trailer for this, then my guess is a seperate team will have being working on it therefore THAT team can dedicate their time to the rendering required for the trailer ONLY! That team can leave the rest of the film to other guys and just concentrate on the trailer. We all saw footage of Skorpinok and Prime way before full production had actually wrapped.

In summary, the rendering involved in the trailer has nothing to do with the completion of the full movie... I think we'll have somehting by the year end at least!

P.s: the fact Paramount have already shipped a trailer for Star Trek clears the way for another Paramount trailer with a blockbuster... it only seems logical to me that TF2 (Paramount) will come with TDTESS (blockbuster) as well as being of a similar genre (sci-fi alien invasion).

    ReplyDelete
  20. why doesn't someone on here ask the pimple-faced kid at the theater when do trailers arrive?

that way we will know if it arrives with the TDTESS film or not.

    or maybe posters?

    ReplyDelete
  21. AICN is also reporting that Terminator: Salvation is also debuting a trailer with TDTESS, so it's definitely the right demographic, and the studios seem to be backing that, with this and Wolverine. But we'll know next Friday for sure...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, I don't know about asking the local kid at theater. Half the time they can't even get the audio levels right.

But I will agree that this "Cody" guy might be right.
The people at my local theaters are wearing TDTESS shirts and there's promotional signs and posters everywhere for the movie.

I would bet that TF2 would love to catch some of the crowd for that show.

But I also agree that it will be a tease trailer. Probably won't see any new robots for this one.

  25. i work at a movie theater, and can surely tell you that Christmas is the busiest day out of the entire year -- no joke. i don't know why families would want to spend their day at the movies, but whatever.

and a trailer in front of the day the earth stood still would be great!
