The first issue of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Movie Prequel: Defiance #1 will arrive in stores on January 21st and as part of that IDW has released multiple covers and a five page sneak peak. Also a sneak peak of issue number 4 cover (left) which looks very good. More importantly, Optimus Prime's opponent looks identical to the leaked image of Megatron complete with cannon and claw.Defiance is the one with Megatron kneeling before some object that looks similar to the poster face. As for the story, according to mini-series writer Chris Mowry on his blog:
The series takes place before the events of the first TRANSFORMERS movie. It expands on the events from the first movie and this summer's sequel. If all goes well, it'll help expand upon the movie universe and set the stage for future stories as well.I still haven't figured out how this series plays out compared to the other prequel mini-series Transformers: Alliance. My best guess is Defiance is more of an origin story for the entire movie universe while Alliance is a direct prequel for the upcoming sequel. It's an origin that's a bit different. Cybertron isn't the same planet that we know. It's flourishing. Characters are working together and not killing one another. The society is based upon peace and the expansion of their knowledge. Megatron serves as the planet's protector. With his soldiers, the planet has enjoyed peace for a long time. Optimus heads up the science and construction division. He's the "blue collar" character who will eventually find himself thrust into a situation that he's never been in before. It's a different time and a very different place, but it all goes horribly wrong.
Looks very good indeed. I like the idea of Megatron as hero to his people. Adds a level of complexity to things.
ReplyDeleteKind of like the approach of the IDW G1 Comics of Megatron and Optimus wanting two sides of the same ending if that makes sense. Anyway, same ideals, different approaches. The one cover of Megatron and Prime fighting is just so freaking awesome. I'm loving the cover art of these new comics.

ReplyDeletecould someone please answer a short question for me? I kind of lost the overview over the whole prequel comic book thing....there are Alliance and Defiance prequel comics, right? How many issues of Alliance are there? 2, right? And how many issues of the Defiance comics will come out? 2 also?
And does someone have electronic copies of them? I only found one of Alliance #2...but not#1! I cna't get the comics here (in Switzerland)!

ReplyDeleteYou didn't read Defiance alliance, you just read "Alliance #1 and #2". Defiance is another series, that's prequel to the RotF.

ReplyDeleteya know i found a script on a website but it was deleted so ill tell ya what i read "well the autobots meet together in this place it was scratched out sorry anyway and it said hotrod was there mikaela got into hotrod making bumblebee jealous. so bumblebee goes with sam meeting former s7 agent simmons, telling him hes back in businessso autobots said they would meet in las egas because a s7 base is there anyway bumble bee sam and simmons head on the highway and suddenly a bunch of robots (constructicons)ambush them forcing bumblebee to crash and fight them but all of a sudden a truck comes and cars are on it (either prime or ultra magnus)and a bunch of autobots attack the robots while bumblebee meets with the u.s forces and s7 agents for the biggest battle in history as the decepticons approach the trops start firing the autobots arrive just in time for the battle but the soldierts weapons werent doing anything like the decepticons advanced there armor or something only the autobots weapons were working. finnalyy the soldiers say to use the emp that will eliminate all nbes in the area (maybe world) so the autobots agree but the decepticons destroy it leaving them in battle." and thats t thats finnaly the big battle at the end of the movie now that script is just action action action man i cant wait for this movie

ReplyDeleteIS it just me or do the decepticons Megatron,and starscream look more like the autobots.Look at starscreams face and megatron face and compare them to later in time.I wonder what caused them to look "deformed"? How did they get from looking like normal autobots to monsters.

ReplyDeleteDefiance is probably just a way for the script writers to justify the existence for the Fallen in TF:ROTF. Most likely, the Fallen is the one who turns Megatron to the slightly mad side. Maybe even giving him his flightform so he can get the Cube and take it to Earth, where the Fallen lies waiting.

Alliance covers events between the end of the big fight in the movie and the dumping of Decepticons into the ocean. It will also supposedly cover some events after the movie.
ReplyDeleteDefiance is supposed cover pre-war events on Cybertron, expand on some aspects around the first round and then take things up to the sequel.
There are 4 issues of Alliance and 4 issues of Defiance.
ReplyDeleteThey are being releasing in a staggered fashion rather than consecutively. Alliance is the first series and Defiance the 2nd.
They are both prequels to the new movie but they dont pick up directly from each other
For what I can tell is that IDW publishing have the script of the sequel in the past interview with MTV news and they know what to do with the prequels of Alliance and Defiance stories, it's connected to TF:ROTF. I wouldn't worry about the series. Be patient. And don't speculate too much. It will show in time.

ReplyDeleteI don't like about telling two stories nearly in same time. 2 issues of Alliance and 1 issue of Defiance are arrived. I know in Alliance's story that in battle of Mission City all robots borned from the Allspark (Mountain Dew machine, Xbox 360 and others) were killed just like rest of the Decepticons. One Allpsark Fragment brought Wreckage back to life and Soundwave arrived to Mars with Decepticon reinfrocements. And I know in Defiance's story that it mysterious artifact looking like the Fallen's face made Megatron evil and mad. In my home country only prequel of first movie is released. I've read stories of other omics from somewhere in internet.
