Detroit Set Pics, Possible Florida Locations (Updated)

It seems that Transformers 3 production could start resuming any day now in Detroit. Yesterday the Twins where spotted en route to the Detroit's Packard Plant and now Optimus Prime's trailer is there too. Thanks to J1000, below are a few pics from the location which has started to be dressed for filming with a train spotted in the plant and smashed cars with rubble.

After Detroit, it is assumed that Florida is the next stop and Collect Space found a few articles that indicated possible locations for the shoot and confirmed that the shuttle launch of the Discovery on September 16th is part of the shoot.

From Central Florida News 13 (link now dead):
[Space Coast Film Commissioner Bonnie King] said location scouts have visited the area for two to three days at a time, looking at other areas to shoot. Those included Patrick Air Force Base; Space Coast Regional Airport, in Titusville; Merritt Island Airport; Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, in Cocoa; and a Cocoa Beach house. Scouts also checked out some swamps and went into the woods.
WESH Orlando also provided a few specifics:
A shuttle launch pad, one of the crawler vehicles that move the space shuttle and the KSC Vehicle Assembly Building are expected to be depicted in the film, King said in a news release. [King] said the film crew will be working around the scheduled launch of space shuttle Discovery on Sept. 16.

Bay is looking for an airport with a big hangar for the movie, which could bring him and the film's crew and stars to Patrick Air Force Base, Space Coast Regional Airport or Merritt Island Airport.

The location scouts also looked at scenes of local airboat rides, swamps and woods while they were in Brevard. Whether those scenes will be used depends on the developing plot twists for the film, King said in a news release.
Update:As has been noted in the comments, the launch of Discovery has been moved to November 1st. However, the latest Shuttle News from NASA indicates that preparation continues with the shuttle being moved to the Vehicle Assembly Building to be joined to its two boosters and fuel tank. It seems that even if the launch itself cannot be filmed (even assuming a launch is part of the film), the shuttle itself will still provide opportunities for filming.

  3. I mean yes they probably did, but if you REALLY do your research you would have known it was coming.

  4. not to mention the person reporting this should have known considering what Ray and I discussed. and not to post an article from May. That doesn't make sense in my mind

  8. don't know if it makes a difference BUT, I've been talking to people and they're saying Bay won't be filming until AFTER Discovery rolls out to 39A which can be assumed to happen sometime next week as roll over is today. They're also saying pyros are possible, they could be near the VAB. the issue with that is that the stack for STS-134 will be getting prepared. And there is a strict *no smoking* policy instead the VAB. So again this is all speculation but something to consider.

  9. the one for sure thing is Bay has permission to screw up KSC's work schedule as long as it doesn't interfere with launch preps

  11. The video linked above clearly wasn't shot by the Transformers 3 camera crew...it's cell phone footage shot by another extra most likely given the angle and the dirty windshield. To me the car did not appear to be being towed but rather careening out of control.

  12. Discovery's roll over to the VAB has been delayed a day due a water main issue

  13. Don't forget guys, Michael bay has worked with KSC before for his 1998 movie Armageddon. For this, I'm really excited to see what kind of footage he'll have 12 years later. And yes, delays occurred before in 1998. I doubt he'll be worried about those things.
