Shia Talks Different Vibe on DOTM Set

In an interview with Hero Complex, Transformers: Dark of the Moon star Shia LaBeouf (Sam Witwicky) spoke about Megan Fox leaving and the change in vibe that the casting of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Carly Miller) brought to the set. In short, he felt Megan couldn't handle being rudely treated a bit like a piece of sexy meat while Rosie has no problem with it or with Bay's abrasiveness.
“Megan developed this Spice Girl strength, this woman-empowerment [stuff] that made her feel awkward about her involvement with Michael, who some people think is a very lascivious filmmaker, the way he films women,” LaBeouf said. “Mike films women in a way that appeals to a 16-year-old sexuality. It’s summer. It’s Michael’s style. And I think [Fox] never got comfortable with it. This is a girl who was taken from complete obscurity and placed in a sex-driven role in front of the whole world and told she was the sexiest woman in America. And she had a hard time accepting it. When Mike would ask her to do specific things, there was no time for fluffy talk. We’re on the run. And the one thing Mike lacks is tact. There’s no time for [LaBeouf assumes a gentle voice] ‘I would like you to just arch your back 70 degrees.’”

“Rosie comes with this Victoria’s Secret background, and she’s comfortable with it, so she can get down with Mike’s way of working and it makes the whole set vibe very different,” LaBeouf said.

“Sam’s sort of frustrated,” LaBeouf said. “He has no purpose in life. When he was with the Autobots, he had purpose. He was needed. But he’s got this very supportive girl [Huntington-Whitley's Carly Miller] who’s having him go to these job interviews and trying to nurture him, get him back on his feet. It’s a different female energy than he experienced with Mikaela, who was a very cold biker chick. This woman’s more of a maternal, loving type. Sam wants a domestic, eggs-in-the-morning kind of a thing.”

  1. Megan should have known what she was getting into when she auditioned for the role. I say good riddance. Rosie looks so hot :)

  3. Shia is a jerkoff, he managed to insult Mike and Rosie. Way to go, should have fired him too.

  5. Fox should be down on the ground kissing Bay's hairy beanbag for giving her a career. No one would know who the hell she was if not for Bay's famous shots like her leaning over the engine in TF1. Spoiled ungrateful biatch.

  6. Shia was just being honest.....u can't fault him for that. Credit him for keeping it real.

  7. wow, that´s pretty rough, on the other hand, those are all facts he is stating.

  8. AiC Hokie I could not have said it better myself. Michael created Fox, he gave her a career what more did she want? He gave her all this stuff, but instead of thanking him she talked shit about him. You dont talk shit about the man who made you famous! Everything about MDF is FAKE.

Anonymous 9:46 Megan should have known what she was getting into when she auditioned for the role.

The movie business is not for everyone. Only the strongest survive!

  9. He's not really insulting anyone, sounds just like he's just stating the facts

  10. Bay give Fox her career, yeah. But what kind of actress is she ? She's the "hot girl". Maybe she's not confortable with that idea I don't know. But I can understand that she's a frustated by that idea. None the less, she's fugly now and I'm glad they didn't keep her. Even if I don't like Rosie that much...

  11. I bet my ass this is just the beginning of a loooooooooot of things Shia will say about Transformers 3 and how pissed off he was all the time in the set of Transformers 3 without Megan.
Even Michael Bay said how rude was Shia filming this movie.

  12. For either of these women they should not be notice as sex symbols but as people, actual people instead of shooting them in slow motion all the time. I think they should have did Carly from the first movie like she could have been Sam's best friend since 1st grade u would want to share the fact that u meet alien robots with someone u know almost your whole life. The person who I beleve could have done it was Shia's co-star from Disturbia Sara Roemer. Between her and Shia they had good Chemistry and their acting was real. Sara seems to be more then just looks, that could had made a better story I think.

  13. What a difference from 2009; Fox was on the cover of every mag and on every talk show to promote ROTF.
Her most recent movie was direct to video.
She is no longer mentioned as an up and coming actress.
She wasn't able to move beyond being "the hot girl in the transformers movies".
She publicly humiliated the man who gave her a career, who also happens to be one of the most powerfull men in Hollywood.
She seemed offended by her transformers related fame and spoke down about the movies on numerous occasions.

  14. @Katsuhono 6/03/2011 5:38 AM: you are glad of having a trilogy with a broken 3rd movie in which plot and characters continuity is lost and the new Rosie topmodel playing Carly looks like the worst choice ever?

  15. It sounds like a good change for the 3rd movie. Megan Fox was getting boring.

  16. @ 5:38 Am Anon'

I don't really care for most of the human cast ( I mean, who's watching TFs for Sam's life ? )
And I think that Megan went a bit too far on surgery, she was pretty good (and pretty )in the first movie, IMO. In the second one, she was pretty useless and didn't look so natural. Now she's fugly. Rosie isn't better. Sam being single could have been a good idea ( or the best friend idea that 7:10 Anon' said was pretty good too ) but Bay had to add a pointless, useless, "beautiful" woman in it.

Oh and btw, I think the plot continuity was lost in ROTF.

  17. Stating what one feels was the case is not stating "facts". Though it may be true, we can not just go on what Shia says. And I like how we all thought Carly was going to be the girl next door earlier when she was casted and now she is no different from Fox as far trying to make her more down to earth.

Movie will be fun but I doubt it having any big improvement story wise or character wise from the last two. It will be a scifi action comedy not a epic scifi action adventure.

And this is an episodical trilogy (like episodes with with each episode having its own plot) and not a trilogy in the way I personally think it should have been which is continuous. So technically you dont need girls to be the same the all the way through, or characters to be too developed, or for the director to care at all i guess.

I the end though the "trilogy" suffers from Bay going down this route. If they would have sat down and wrote all three movies in the first place you would have had a much better set of movies with better character developement, plot continuality, and hopefully a more serious tone.

  18. A little off-topic and kind of a minor plot point, but the article mentioned that Sam had already graduated college. Assuming that DOTM takes place 2 years after ROTF, that means he did some accelerated college plan or had tons of AP credits going in that shortened his stay in college. If those aren't the cases or the movie doesn't take place longer than 2 years after ROTF, then the continuity is a little screwy or contrived so that they can have Sam going into the real world instead of just entering his JR year of college.

  19. First of all, Shia didn't say it like that. He didn't say Rosie was all manly like this guy said. Don't put words in his mouth TFLAMB, and second Shia liked Rosie just as much as did Fox.
Alot of that is true, I believe. But I also think Shia Labeouf was trying to cover up for her. I also think that Shia really liked Megan and always will. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I mean we all have our crushes. Some may be more than a crush, but ya know. Megan Fox should've known what she signed up for. She always had a bad attitude even in the movie. It seemed like she didn't even want to star in it. Maybe if she put a slight smile on her face, she would've gotten along fine. Michael Bay created that girl, and even after she left the movie like she wanted, she talked trash about Rosie. Am I the only one who remembers that? She called Roise all sorts of foul names, and said some crap about how the skinny jeans Rosie wore in Chicago, were supposed to be hers! What a bitch! Some many people think Megan Fox is this and that only because of her looks. I don't know her, but you tell alot about someone who've you seen in many movies.

No one talks about her ever since she left. And she probably learned her lesson.

If you're reading this Shia, I think you're a great actor and you seem like a cool dude, but Megan probably forgot about Transformers. Megan Fox went out and talked shit about the movie! Can you believe that?! She talked crap about the movie! Yet, she wanted the money. What a no-brainer! Personally, I think she was never mature for the role, and she should've looked for something else to make money off of. Seriously, I'm not trying to hurt anyone, but I strongly believe Shia is just talking that stuff because he likes her. I'm done here. Check back, and of course comment on how you feel about this.

    -Thanks, Prime!

  20. @Prime 6/03/2011 4:17 PM: Michael Bay is talking s*it about Transformers2 now to rip people off telling that Transformers3 is its best while it's obviously not, otherwise he wouldn't have made the movie even shorter than the first two.

  21. @ Anonymous 6/05/2011 4:56 AM: Okay first of all, let's get this damn issue straight. I'm sick of you haters, trying to find an exuse to put down the movie! Alright stop the shit! And I'm sick of all you haters saying shit like the third will suck because it's shorter then the first two. Just saying that out loud, it sounds like shit! How can the length of a movie, describe it's quality? The first one was 2 hours and a half for one reason. The characters had to be introduced and so did the plot. The second didn't have any reason to be 2 hours and a half, and it was just too long. Michael Bay even said that they wrote the movie with the same time as the first. The second had too many flaws, and basicly the 16 minutes that aren't in TF3, are probably the flaws in TF2! So how do you sound now? Second of all, Michael is saying the truth! Transformers 2 was shit! It wasn't totally shit, but it was just too big! He's agreeing with the fans! And now you're getting mad at him for feeling the same you did about the second movie? That's just bull shit! You're obviously a Bay hater. Haters hate the fact that the movie and it's creators are right, and they want the movie to fail! Now third of all, WHO THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING THE THIRD ISN'T THE BEST! YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THE MOVIE, AND YOUR HERE SAYING IT OBVIOUSLY ISN'T! IT OBVIOUSLY IS! LOOK AT THE FOOTAGE WE'VE SEEN SO FAR!!!!! AGAIN, YOU'RE A HATER!!!!! IF YA HATE THE FREAKIN' MOVIE SO MUCH, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! BUT IN THE END, YOU KNOW YOU'LL SEE DOTM, AND YOU KNOW IT'LL THE BEST TRANSFORMERS MOVIE EVER! HAVE YOU READ THE REVIEWS FROM EVERYONE WHO'S EXCLUSIVELY SEEN THE MOVIE? JAMES CAMERON, DIRECTOR OF AVATAR AND TITANIC, SAID, and I quote, it's "pretty great" with a smile on his face! You don't believe me? It's in a Michael Bay and James Cameron interview! Why do these fuckin' people, come along and disrupt peaceful lives?! WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, IS (IN GIGANTIC LETTERS) SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Now........................................................how do YOU feel?
