According to a post from Roberto Orci, one of the Transformers writers, the issue of Optimus lips are still on the table for discussion in regards to staying or going. The lips, as seen in a leaked trailer, where denied by Bay, but according to a preview review they are still in. Orci posted, "Workin on it. Complain on every board you can think of if it's important to you," indicating if there is enough noise, the lips might go. I am thinking the lips will stay as the design of Optimus early on included a mouth and if intended no lips they would have just kept the face plate and not bothered with a no face plate look. I guess will have to wait until July 4th to see what happens.

Get rid the Fucking lips!!!! Just have the face plate up at all times. That should have been a no brainer since day one. It's like monkey's fucking a football over there.

ReplyDeleteSeriously though Optimus never needed lips before I do not see the point of implement them now. It seems like a pandering attempt to humanize him more, which is pointless because it was his personality and actions that humanized him the most.
Bring back the faceplate!
He needs lips so he can munch on RC's metalic box. That'll be in the director's cut the R rated version.
ReplyDeleteI would of course, prefer Optimus Prime to keep his face plate on at all times, but I won't force the production company to not show some glimpse of it, besides, COMPARE TO THE DESIGN OF THE NEW STARSCREAM, THIS IS NOTHING!!! I WISH I COULD DEMAND THEM TO RE-DESIGN A BETTER LOOKING STARSCREAM but of course, what could we do? =/
ReplyDeleteI actually like the idea of him having lips. It creates more emotions and more realistic. I mean, he may have the plate on all of the time, but he does got lips...haha. I agree with Anna. They F'ed up starscream. The flip looks cool, but still, they should have came up with a better design. If they gonna changed it, do it right! The movie is so different from the cartoon, but I have come to accept and even love it. Megatrons looks cool, though he don't look like a robot and it's hard to see how he can transform into anything. I come to accept Megatron...that's all I can do...haha.

ReplyDeleteTrouble is Optimus Prime does actually have lips in the last animated series Cybertron. He only gained the faceplate whenever he transformed into 'super' mode or 'Sonic Wing' mode. They appear to be working on a similar principle with the movie in that he gains the faceplate when he goes into battle. Which would make sense from a human perspective as we wear face protection in ceratin situations. Why not Prime?
